Every day for the last 50 years, the oil and gas industry has brought in $3 BILLION in profits. Not revenues. Profits.

EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

See — https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/jul/21/revealed-oil-sectors-staggering-profits-last-50-years

That’s 💵 💵 💵 $52 trillion 💵 💵 💵 in pure profit, their payoff for happily destroying our climate and biosphere.

We need system change NOW.

@breadandcircuses For that amount of money they are willing to destroy humanity. If humanity let them do this maybe humanity deserves it.

@breadandcircuses even more outrageous is that they got and still get as much or even more in fossil fuel subsidies. That's public funds for the super rich (they really don't need it with so much profit).

#EndFossilFuelSubsidies NOW

@breadandcircuses To STOP Climate Change(to the degree we NEED TO) Hu,ans Need to Quit Refining oil, Quit Drilling for oil. QUIT BUYING OIL! The Cost of Gasoline SHOULD BE ridiculous! ALL Power generated from petroleum Should be equal to the cost it's use does to society. Stupid Old Men will DIE without Feeling the growing repercussions of Climate Change and THEY won't change unless WE cause OUR Representatives(Oh Yeah--fuck it-we're screwed)

@breadandcircuses is that picture of the oil rig ai art?

@enby_of_the_apocalypse No, I don't think so. The poster is not new, it's several years old, so I think it's just a human-processed photograph.

@breadandcircuses Worth bearing in mind those figures are in 2020 prices. They really should have put that somewhere near the top of the news article. Sure it's helpful to understand the scale of the profits in today's money, but it's also important to be upfront about such a methodology.

@breadandcircuses seems that there should be enough money in there to finance a transition to climate friendly energies.

@breadandcircuses

Why don't we just take that fitty-two tril back from them?

It's obviously traceable if someone was able to calculate it. We can leave it if any managed to land in hands that actually need it to survive. Somebody's grandkid trying to live on minimum wage or something. I'm sure most of it is in the offshore accounts of the oligarchs. Fuck 'em. Main street needs it. Take it back..

@Uair I'm with you. Prosecute them for ecocide and homicide, put them in jail, and confiscate all their assets.

That is a heck of a lot of money to use to buy politicians, and tar and feather persons who threaten those profits.

@breadandcircuses We need to have a per barrel royalty on the oil and gas pumped from public lands, and per pound of from resources mined.
