10yrs ago if have said yes… however, I feel like page 1 is only ads and images to ads and sponsored content so I end up on page 2 anyway, so now I have to click a button.

Most people would be happy if a Bibi only killed Hamas instead of just firing bombs indiscriminately into refugee shelters and hospitals. It’s been made pretty clear that the IDF cares nothing about innocent civilians. If you want to make more terrorists, this is how you make more terrorists.

thejml ,

I will say that we’re definitely getting to a level of adblockers that the sites actively care about blocking content or warning about people using adblockers. It’s starting to affect their bottom lines.

thejml ,

They went well past “defending itself” months ago… no sane person would say that they’re defending themselves at this point. Whether you are a fan of Palestine, Israel, or Hamas, it’s pretty obvious the continued bombardment and all out slaughter from Israel is a disproportionate amount of response to be called defense.

Either Israel is terrible at this whole war against Hamas, or they just want genocide against Palestine. Neither is acceptable.

US blasts ‘aggressive’ China over South China Sea collision with Philippine ship ( www.cnn.com )

The United States on Monday condemned China over a collision with the Philippines in the disputed South China Sea, the latest in a series of increasingly fraught confrontations that have raised the potential of a flashpoint for global conflict in the vital waterway....

thejml ,

I agree that we should SLAM this publication for using the word “blasts”.

As a “prosumer” photographer (I do semi-pro landscape photography mostly, with a little astrophotography as a hobby when the sky is clear enough), I’ve been really happy with Affinity Photo over the Adobe suite. Definitely recommend. I just hope they keep their quality up since being bought out.

thejml ,

To be fair, you could stop that sentence after the word “debt”.

Unless I get a full week off every other week, there’s not a number high enough that I’d do 84hrs a week. I’d be slightly tempted if I could make enough to completely retire in a 1-4 months, but that’s not what they’re going for, they’re going for continued employment at 84 hrs a week.

thejml ,

I feel like we’re stuck in a deadlock of dems attempting to pass bills GOP will just block and the GOP only focusing on trying to undo the things dems have done. No one wins here.

Heck the GOP voted against bipartisan bills just to block dems! I don’t see an end game here.

thejml ,

Obviously it was so he could upload it to Archive.org… right?! /s

thejml ,

They wouldn’t get it since multiple felony convictions are apparently not a blocker to run for president… they’re simply a fundraising opportunity!

thejml ,

True, but that’s why people are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty.

Generally a firing is decided the previous day or at least an hour before it happens. Discussions are made prior to the actual meeting where the firing occurs. IT is on standby. They either deactivate the AD account and related auth methods when the employee walks in the office to have the discussion. This is a well oiled machine, so that all parties know their parts. The meeting/discussion is solely a formality and by two minutes into it, theres no longer any access granted. Security shows up at the meeting to escort the employee out and collect their badge or keys. Maybe they let the employee walk by their desk to collect their stuff, maybe the employer ships it to them later, depends on the circumstances and office layout.

If it’s jamming the drone, it’s probably putting out lots of radio interference… which is a super strong signal the drone should either keep flying on it’s preprogrammed path while firing ordinance to take out the hammer, or just change direction towards the drone jammer. Either way, no more jamming.

NewsBreak: Most downloaded US news app has Chinese roots and 'writes fiction' using AI ( www.reuters.com )

Last Christmas Eve, NewsBreak, a free app with roots in China that is the most downloaded news app in the United States, published an alarming piece about a small town shooting. It was headlined "Christmas Day Tragedy Strikes Bridgeton, New Jersey Amid Rising Gun Violence in Small Towns."...

Most people… I mean, the one I use is just an RSS feed aggregator. But in the age of smartphones, people just get an app from their favorite sources and never check others it seems.

thejml ,

But will they vote in their best interests? Probably not.

thejml ,

Not a fan of Biden, but he’s not the one shipping the weapon’s. Congress approved that, he held it back for a little until Congress started working toward a bill to force him to ship them and he relented. Should have stuck to his guns, imho and let them pass the bill to overrule him so it’d look bad on Congress for doing it, but the sad thing is that he’d just look like he was in the way of what a large portion of the country apparently wants. The GOP is all about being on Israel’s side.

The president doesn’t have as much power as people think he does.

thejml ,

I choose to just continue not having it in the first place. I uninstalled it from my work PC a year ago and never put it on either personal install. Definitely haven’t missed it.

Even the woman on the ad looks “whelmed” and disappointed in the world of tech. I feel like behind those eyes there are thoughts of quitting and moving to Idaho to raise sheep.

This place with only one cassette tape sounds like a Tragic Kingdom to me.

Hey, man. Don’t be that rough on him, he’s been through a lot lately.

Salman Rushdie’s alleged assailant seeks plea deal with US ( www.semafor.com )

Hadi Matar, the man accused of nearly fatally stabbing British-American writer Salman Rushdie, is negotiating a plea agreement with both US state and federal prosecutors that could shed light on whether a foreign government or terrorist organization was involved in the attack, officials involved in the case told Semafor....

There was a report that Mazda was going to do this with their next release cycle, except they’re going to use Rotary engines because they can make small pancake ones shoved in the corner of a trunk do it.

thejml ,

I feel like somehow this is just going to drive more campaign contributions and win over those who are brainwashed, netting him a boost in the polls, but I guess time will tell.

Reddit has backups, permanently isn’t an option.

thejml ,

In fact, the GOP Congress was going to push Biden to send this stuff if he didn’t relent: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/house-gop-pushes-bill-to-force-biden-to-continue-transfer-of-weapons-to-israel/ar-BB1mq29M?ocid=nl_article_link

Biden’s trying to win over some undecided right leaning voters with this whole $1B deal and it’s sickening to his own party.

“F that electoral college” is an interesting thing as Hillary would have kept Trump out of office if it wasn’t a thing and we just used the popular vote.

thejml ,

Previously, Tesla owners simply had to go to their mobile apps to pay and unlock the extra range.

God, I hate this timeline.

thejml ,

I’m reminded of the Family Guy where a bird lays eggs in Peter’s beard.

thejml ,

Who would take them? I mean, I guess you gotta get paid, but when someone demonstrated that they can just drop you with zero warning, trust is negative at that point.

thejml ,

That would be glorious! Not holding my breath though.

thejml ,

I’ve got 4yrs on mine, I use them for meetings at work and regularly do 3hr meetings with them, probably averaging about 3 hrs a day, 5 days a week. They ran out for me the other day after a 3.5hr meeting, but luckily just one did, so I had it charge while I was using the other and made it through the 5hr outage call.

Not ideal, but the 4 other head sets (2 bt and two wired I got from the company) sounded terrible (either the microphone or the speaker or both) so they’re my go to pair.

I do wish you could swap the battery, but if I make
It to 5 yrs it’d probably be fine considering how much I use them. I’d even be okay if they’d just make that a pro feature. At least give us the choice.

thejml ,

Meanwhile the US is trying to get rid of it. It’s basically a failed experiment at this point.

thejml ,

Every time I think “man, I’m making a pretty good salary”, I see things like this and go “Oh. Not THAT good apparently”

thejml ,

This is going to age like milk if he’s ever convicted.

Besides the “don’t they have anything better to do” line, I really feel like you need to already be dead before they can do this sort of thing.

thejml ,

For an extra $20 you can get one that says adultery is okay.

That seems like it’d be a popular option for people in his usual circles. I feel like he’s under selling it at $20.

thejml ,

Maybe I’m above average here, but i feel like that’s already pretty obvious. AFAIK Israel is the only one currently genociding in Gaza. Now, if it WASNT Israel, that’d need the extra word.

You only get so many words in a title, news orgs tend to leave out the ones that don’t need more explanation.

Ironically, ChatGPT is trained from the online communities.

And without fresh data on the communities, CharGPT will soon lack the answers people seek.

thejml ,

I used to use Twitter as a way of directly following a few sources of news. Follow NPR, BBS, Reuters,
Etc. I don’t know anyone who expected to learn of news from “the algorithm”. That’s still true today. Expect to get fed news from whatever is trending and you’ll be bamboozled, fed useless stories a day propaganda.

Some of these sources can instead be snagged from RSS feeds and Mastodon and besides official apps, those are much better ways to follow news and always have been.

thejml ,

Unable to serve an administration that enables such atrocities, I have decided to resign from my position at the Department of State.

I get putting your weight behind “fix this or I’m out”, but they’ll just find another “yes man” and you accomplished nothing but some press coverage for a small enough percentage of people and time to be insignificant.

To quote Hamilton lyrics: “You got skin in the game, you stay in the game. But you don’t get a win unless you play in the game.”

Change absolutely needs to occur, I just don’t think bouncing is going to get the desired goal.
