You sound like a MAGA moron. Also encouraging people not to vote, and encouraging people to not vote for Biden elsewhere in the thread. Sus.

shottymcb ,

No, if you're low income and don't get healthcare through your employer it's pretty fucking awesome compared to what came before it, which was "oh, well you see the hospital exit there? Keep going until you hit the gutter and die there kthnx bye. Oh, you have insurance? Well your provider says this is a pre-existing condition, so refer to my original statement."

The subsidies on the ACA marketplace make insurance feasible, and the restrictions on pre-existing conditions make it actually useful. Even after being gutted.

You're spreading misinformation that could legitimately cause people harm by not seeking out coverage through Obamacare. Could it be better? Of course.

shottymcb ,

Overall risk of bias was high, and certainty of evidence was very-low.

Not exactly a smoking gun, the study found that maybe it increased HDL levels very slightly.

That's because your home instance of lemmy.world isn't federated with hexbear or lemmygrad.

TIL in the Carboniferous Period, no fungus existed to decompose trees. They just grew on top of each other up and up.

The weight of the trees was so great that the ones on the bottom got squished and became coal. That’s where coal is from. Bonus fact: the whole time this was happening, sharks were hunting in the oceans. Sharks are older than trees and fungus!

You don't want to be a speaker at a librarian convention though. 500 people shushing you.

I remember leaded gas too, from 15 seconds ago when a propeller plane flew over my house dumping lead out it's exhaust. They inexplicably are still allowed to use leaded gas in small aircraft. Even new planes are designed to only accept leaded cause it's all they have at the airports.

Those name tag magnets are ubiquitous in food service. Could be any fast food place with whipped cream. That said, yeah, I don't know of any chain that's made their own whipped cream since 2005.

shottymcb ,

I'll tack on apple bananas. They're tiny and taste like an apple and a banana had babies.

shottymcb , (edited )

We have those in the US as well. They're meant for women who just gave birth to clean their privates. The hospital gave my wife 3 that we got to take home since they can't reuse them.

shottymcb ,

I mean, If a bird shit on me, I wouldn't consider myself clean if I just hosed it off with water either. Soap needs to be involved. Bidet or TP is just a stopgap until you actually wash your ass. With soap.

shottymcb ,

Our bathrooms aren't set up for that in the US at least. The floor is often wood or fake vinyl wood. The only part of the bathroom that is waterproof is the shower/bath.

shottymcb , (edited )

A bidet only sprays your asshole though? And it doesn't get it's water supply from the toilet bowl, it's hooked up to clean water? I don't understand why you think any of that happens.

Edit: I read your other comments farther down, so the context changes matters. I get what you were aiming to say.

shottymcb ,

Yeah, but this "portable bidet" is literally the exact same product that has been marketed towards post-partum women in the US. I mean that literally, it's the exact same product made in China, marketed by some slimy western asshole as a "revolutionary portable bidet!!!!1!11!"

shottymcb ,

It's not a threat, it's a reality here in the south. You can clutch your accelerationist pearls if you want, but that just leads to LGBT rights going back to the 50's. I have a friend that's an LGBT teacher in Florida, she literally committed a felony by acknowledging the existence of LGBT people.

If there's a revolution in the US it's going to be y'allqueda instituting a theocracy, not the communist revolution. The only hope is shifting the Overton window back to the left over time. The current crop of Republicans have to be rendered entirely unelectable.

shottymcb ,

This is the best we can put forward as a nation, a narcissist with dementia, a normal old guy with dementia, and a guy who refused to have his brain tumor investigated and opted to believe the one guy that said it could be a dead brain worm. Also probably with dementia. We're fucking doomed. I'm still voting for normal guy with dementia, but... Doomed.

shottymcb ,

Shitposting related to military matters as far as I can tell.

shottymcb ,

That's not an insult as the internet has decided. It can be used sarcastically, but in my experience as a southerner it is more often a compliment for doing something nice.

shottymcb ,

Context is king. Yes, anything can be said sarcastically. But when a child shares their candy with another child and 7 people are like "Aww bless his heart!!" It's not fucking code. The fact that it's usually used as a compliment is exactly what makes it so cutting as a sarcastic insult.

shottymcb ,

This. Leftist candidates won't be viable until far right candidates aren't. We're choosing between "I'll be a dictator" vs "democracy will continue" and the fascist is a likely outcome. The window has to move left to "democracy will continue" vs "maybe we can make things better". If you're holding out for a communist to be elected, that ain't happening in our lifetime. The revolution is not coming. Revolution only comes when life is utterly intolerable and the capitalists know better than to let that happen.

Our only real hope is to shift things that way over generations.

shottymcb ,

you cannot get positive change electorally

You certainly can, by actually fucking voting. Not in a single election, granted, but over time. Currently we're choosing between fascist theocracy and democracy, because people who don't want to live in a fascist theocracy won't fucking vote. When they do vote, and fascist theocracy is no longer a viable position, we get to choose between corrupt capitalist democracy or social democracy.

shottymcb ,

So the path forward is killing people? Because that's what revolution entails. Once the killings start they tend to be indiscriminate and less about idealism than consolidating power. There's a long history of revolution, and I can't think of a single one that didn't go off the rails and devolve into insanity. What makes this revolution you're dreaming about different?

shottymcb ,

Can you give an example of when a revolution wasn't violent? Just one. Ever. In the history of humanity?

shottymcb ,

Their dark spots also expand when they get old and their circulation worsens as well. Older point color cats will tend to darken on their bellies.

shottymcb ,

Not OP, but how I know someone so despicable:

He was 30 when he raped my 13 year old best friend and when he got out of prison, continued dating her piece of shit mom instead of fucking off. I'd sooner throw him into a burning building than save him from one.

shottymcb ,

Liberals not voting is the problem with the US. We sure as fuck aren't getting national ranked choice voting out of the party of fascism. We aren't getting any Democrat favored legislation without a clear majority. Not a 'well the VP can be the tiebreaker in the senate if the 2 right leaning Democrats agree to it' majority. Not even a 'well as long as Joe Lieberman goes along we can break the filibuster' majority is good enough.

Republicans need to be made utterly unelectable before a left leaning party can be viable.

Did you have an iodine deficiency growing up? His whole fucking point is that he WASN'T POOR. Despite having only one parent working in manual labor.

shottymcb ,

The context of you being a total dick for no apparent reason? Yeah, that context is loud and fucking clear. Maybe don't refer to people as "it" in the future and people might take your argumentation a little better.

Dirty clothes & dead kids ( sh.itjust.works )

alt-text: there’s laundry to do and a genocide to stop. I have to eat better and also avoid a plague. my rent went up $150. I’ll need to pick up more shifts. More importantly than the stuff that affects you is to focus on the things you can change. A friend of mine was in AA, which is a whole can of worms that I'm not going to delve into, but one thing I really like was the Serenity Prayer. I'm an atheist, but I like the thought anyway. It goes

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

To be fair /r/malefashionadvice turned into a circlejerk of popular people posting fits (influencers?) and very little real advice outside of a preset notion of what was acceptable.

Former governor of Florida and professional Voldemort impersonator Rick Scott's company committed the largest known case of insurance fraud in US history. He is currently a US Senator.

certain aviation fuels still have TEL because they haven't found anything else that works in those applications yet.

They have finally found a replacement. A company called GAMI got approval for replacement of 100LL in all engines in 2021. No modifications are necessary, aside from a sticker. It's called G100UL. They're ramping up production, it's only available in a few airports atm.

Of course it could've been replaced decades ago if the political will existed to ban it, but 🤷‍♂️

Those are standard strengths for freebase nicotine. Nicotine salt comes in different strengths. 50mg/ml and 35mg/ml are standard where I live in the US. Elfbars usually come in 40mg/ml.

If it makes you feel better, that's about the tax than I pay in America for health insurance that I don't get. I still pay $500USD per month on top of the taxes for private insurance too.

shottymcb ,

Feels weird to dunk on someone else's healthcare system as an American, but I have a shit ton of rapid tests that the US government gave me for free.

How Do Important People Ever Die?

I'm planning a campaign loosely where players have to fight enemies backed by a larger, scarier empire that frequently sends out their agents to try to assassinate them while they try to setup a new kingdom post-revolution (think the beginning of Game of Thrones where players are on the Small Council, but they're also sort of...

shottymcb ,

I'm just a weirdo who just likes dnd memes but doesn't actually play, so no idea if this is possible... but could you have some kind of magic item or potion that causes extremely rapid aging? Like the guy who choose poorly in Indiana Jones? True Resurrection doesn't work on someone who died of old age.

Or kidnap them and have a ghost Horrifying Visage them until they die of old age?
