hypnotized by the delicious leaf

a young white tailed deer from the neck up in some very tall green plants that continue on into the background. its mouth is open and saliva is connected in strands between top and bottom as they stare intently at some of the leaves that are in front of them. both their large brown and white ears are out to the side and their big black eye reflects the prairie landscape around them as they gaze upon their prize. they are standing in the shadow of a tree so the plants in the background and foreground are very bright while those near them are in shadow.

    … and the stupid wind took my hat. I didn’t even have it on I was holding it worried about the wind — pulled it right out of my hand. How did people live wearing hats all the time!?

    next to the front walk at my kids' school, a bird has laid eggs in a nest on the ground, so the school has surrounded it with cones and at pick up time it sits and squwaks at people

    Nothing weird going on here, right? They just got a replacement that doesn't match the original. Happens plenty, I'm sure. But then.......

    Then you look up and observe the towel rack. The left bracket here is narrow-bodied and the right bracket is thick-bodied.

    So basically they mixed up the brackets between the towel rack and the toilet paper roll holder.

    so i was trying to get a shot of this leucistic brown headed cowbird but the mourning dove had other ideas....

    the cowbird has turned now and is looking at a mourning dove in flight as it approaches the bird bath with wings up and tail down
    the mourning dove comes in for a landing on the bird bath and the cowbird is gone. the doves wings are spread upwards as it attempts to stop itself on the bird bath
    the mourning dove looks triumphantly over its shoulder as it now has the bird bath to themself. they are puffed up and light brown with a pretty blue eye ring. a very pretty dove but not who i was trying to photograph at this moment!!

    I try to ease my guilt about keeping feeder roaches (dubias) by making them fancy meals. Here we have carrot peel rosettes topped with banana and garnished with bee pollen and pumpkin seeds.

    You may be the 5th generation to live in a box as ant food but at least someone was willing to cook for you. Poor little goobers.
