To be fair, he sounds like precisely the sort of person raised by Clarence and Gini Thomas.

He's racked up firearms charges by travelling around with a Glock and AK rolling around by the feet of his minor children, in a vehicle associated with a juvenile trafficking ring, and carrying 24g of heroin that he admitted was his. He has other charges for trafficking meth and heroin.

I hear the libtards also hate skydiving and jaywalking across busy highways wearing dark clothes in the middle of the night.

That'll own 'em if you do those things, too.

+1 for PBS and it's dedup capabilities. I run a remote sync with it to offsite, along with ZFS reps of the underlying datastores.

As for Proxmox itself, I haven't bothered with backing the nodes themselves up, it's so simple to set up and cluster that if it went down, it would be a good chance for a nuke and pave, and restore VMs.

Whatever an Apple IIe ran. Some sort of DOS from what I remember.

I'd be fine with that. But wanting me to install an app now on my phone to get the discounts I always got for being a safe driver pisses me the fuck off.

ikidd OP ,
@ikidd@lemmy.world avatar

It's only a right triangle at horizontal, so I'm not sure how I'd use that to figure out the lengths that give me anything for the vertical position. It's easy enough for the fully retracted situation, but after that I'm lost figuring out how to get the angle to 0 at 2C.

Edit: OK, so you're saying if the pole is 5' long, pick an LA that's close to half that length and just wing it. Which I could do, but I'd hoped to maybe figure it out approximately ahead of buying an expensive LA if I could get a smaller one for less.

ikidd OP ,
@ikidd@lemmy.world avatar

OK, so there's some way to use the idea that at retracted, b^2 = a^2 + c^2 and at extended, 2C = A + B.

Since I have a 78" long panel I was going to hinge about 1/3 of the way from the top, it seems like a 60" tall post would be a reasonable height to work from. Just plugging random numbers in, if I have an LA of 24" and randomly select A=18, at horizontal B=30 and at vertical those add up to 2C=48.

It seems like if I make A=.75C and figure out B with pythagorean, then the second equation works out as well, ie: C=18 and A=13.5, then B=22.5 and it comes out right at 2C=36. Same with C=16 and A=12, B=20 and 12+20=32.

No clue how I make the above equations prove that, but seems to work.

Thanks for reviving that part of my brain. Now I can go back to killing those brain cells with alcohol.

That was the first time I saw DiCaprio. It was great performance, I can't imagine another actor in that role.

Backroads Map Book a couple years ago, because logging/mining roads aren't marked well online, and then you have to figure out how to download it offline when you're in the ass end of nowhere. Best I've found is OSMAnd and even that doesn't have everything.

In response to the lemmy.ml moderation polemic: beware of bad faith agents!

One of the biggest topics of these days is that of mods in lemmy.ml banning and censoring people because they're Tankies. This has had a rather sizeable discussion of people agreeing and even arguing for defederating ml. I'm sure a lot of people are arguing from good intentions, but there's also bad faith actors among them, as I...

Is it racism if you're objecting to a group of people that use racism to justify every horrible thing they've done over the last 2 centuries to the people around them?

You obviously have a bigger axe to grind than the people you're accusing of racism.

If an artist trains an image generation AI on their own digital art catalog, should they be able to get a copyright on what it produces? When does a tool change from a tool to a non-human creator?

Under US copyright law, only works created by humans can be copyrighted. Courts have (imho rightly) denied copyrights to AI-generated images....

ikidd ,
@ikidd@lemmy.world avatar

Let's not start down that road. Just make anything by an AI uncopyrightable then some asshole supreme court judge that likes free RVs can't fuck us all.

UT tries to provide a phone OS, which is remarkably harder than porting a desktop distro to ARM and changing the screen size. I'm not sure what the point is of dunking on UT several times here.

You'd like to believe that, but Rupert Murdoch, that living incarnation of a bloody hemmorhoid, just got married at age 93.

Snapshot with zfs, backup snapshot.

ikidd ,
@ikidd@lemmy.world avatar

While there's probably a better way of doing it via the docker zfs driver, I just make a datastore per stack under the hypervisor, mount the datastore into the docker LXC, and make everything bind mount within that mountpoint, then snapshot and backup via Sanoid to a couple of remote ZFS pools, one local and one on zfs.rent.

I've had to restore our mailserver (mysql) and nextcloud (postgres) and they both act as if the power went out, recovering via their own journaling systems. I've not found any inconsistencies on recovery, even when I've done a test restore on a snapshot that's been backed up during known hard activitiy. I trust both databases for their recovery methods, others maybe not so much. But test that for yourself.

Merida in Mexico. It's not a tourist city, but I was there during a weekend and there were all sort of family events organized at the market, it was really fun and inclusive. We sat down to watch a kids play and got brought into the play as "ghosts" (we're white) so the kids would run up to us and pretend to be scared (we'd play it up), and at the end everyone gathered around us and thanked us for being sports. The rest of the day was just an immersion in actual Mexican culture and friendliness.

Not what I expected just dropping into the city on the way to see ruins, we stayed an extra couple days just to enjoy it. Maybe it's gotten more urban and stand-offish, this would have been a decade ago.

I usually see these at that angle, supposedly so it sheds water to either side instead of damming it by being horizontal. Metal roofs are pretty common in rural areas, and the boots are done like this.

Honestly, this doesn't look bad.

ikidd ,
@ikidd@lemmy.world avatar

Really, this looks fine. I've seen a pile of metal roof in rural ag areas, and this is the right boot, done the right way. Yah, if they'd thought ahead they might have been able to schedule the sheets to not land on the seem. But putting the boot at 45* and screwing them on either side of the seam is correct, though that bottom one is squonky, but it's at the bottom so it shouldn't be an issue. Proper caulking under and around. This is probably as good as it gets.

perfume, cologne, and even shampoo that westerners wear to be intolerable

Apparently I'm secretly Japanese because I am so fucking tired of every product I use increasing their scents to intolerable levels.

Irish Spring and Pert have gotten to stupid levels of scent, and trying to find scentless soaps and shampoos is really tough now.

Its not going to stop no matter who wins.

Have you ever bough an external hardrive only to take the disk out of it?

Hiya, so am looking to buy more storage and while browsing am seeing some external harddisks, such as Western Digital My Book and Seagate Expansion Desktop for cheaper than the internal harddisks themselves. Have seen this one video from KTZ Systems where he bought up multiple of these external ones just to open them up and use...

ikidd ,
@ikidd@lemmy.world avatar

Shucked drives are usually the drives that are rejected for internal use because of quality issues. They might work fine, they might not. Be careful with them and remember, RAID is not a backup.

1M barrels of gasoline is about 90 minutes of national usage. Its not even a blip on the radar of gas prices. It will affect prices by approximately nothing.

These cargo vans are heavier and get worse fuel economy than a half ton with a similar engine. I'm not sure why lemmings hold them out as the more viable alternative to pickups. They're great if you have a bunch of stuff to protect from prying eyes but don't tow well and you can't put long, heavy or tall things in.
