Can you hear the bells of progress? 🎵

We just launched Destination Earth, a digital replica of the Earth, powered by EU supercomputers and Al.

This cutting-edge technology will allow us to:

🌍 Monitor our planet in real time
🌡️ Adapt to climate change
🚨 Predict severe weather events
📉 Mitigate socio-economic risks
🎯 Design adaptation strategies for a more resilient future

Destination Earth is already operational.

Our goal is to create a complete digital twin of the Earth by 2030.

@BeAware @EUCommission I can’t even start to unearth the amounts of wtf that statement brought upon my mind. 🤷‍♂️

gimulnautti ,
@gimulnautti@mastodon.green avatar

@BeAware @EUCommission Could we perhaps start with assumptions and statements about the subject matter?

  1. How are we assuming the reader’s attitudes towards AI?
  2. How are we assuming EU’s attitudes towards AI?
  3. What is the statement about EU and AI usage?
gimulnautti ,
@gimulnautti@mastodon.green avatar

@BeAware @EUCommission I think ”educated guess” is a synonym for assumption.

Could you please state your assumptions?

gimulnautti ,
@gimulnautti@mastodon.green avatar

@BeAware @EUCommission I see.

Now that I know something of your assumptions, I can gather that you classify all AI usage as falling under one category, and that all usage of AI would therefore generate the same response.

I, for one, am in my own political forums pushing for more investment into AI training from public materials by state actors inside EU.

A reliance on US commercial actors, who are stealing data, is a security risk and a trap.

gimulnautti ,
@gimulnautti@mastodon.green avatar

@BeAware @EUCommission Some will. However, there is still a willingness to actually understand AI, and a willingness from the member states to help people understand the differences.

And might I add, EU countries are uniquely placed in their possibilities for investing in public education due to different approaches to especially public broadcast media than the US.

@Nonilex But that is the crucial difference:

Trump’s support base lives in a world of make-believe, they are happy there, and they actively reject any attempts at reality to come there and go changing things.

The hard facts of psychology dictate that factual beliefs update automatically based on real-world events.

So the defence of upping the make-believe, to stay in la-la-land is understandable.

Trump must scream harder & harder to keep them safely tucked up in their make-believe.

The EU parliament elections have turned Denmark upside down.

All my life, Danish politics has been dominated by two parties: The Social Democrats which is centrist and Venstre which is financially more liberal but also centrist.

Now, The Social Democrats loses 6 percent of the vote and only barely keeps 3 seats, and Venstre is halved from 4 down to 2 seats.

Most impressingly, the climate focused, socialist party SF becomes the biggest party and gains a third seat.

This development…

10-post thread by Angry Staffer: 1/...

Let’s talk .

There’s a lot of analysis out there that I believe is driven by a fundamental misunderstanding of the way fights wars.

Bottom line up front: Russia’s current goals in Ukraine aren’t necessarily victory, at least not in the traditional military sense.

We’ve seen evidence of this since even before Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014. More on that later.

gimulnautti ,
@gimulnautti@mastodon.green avatar

@GottaLaff What’s funny is that Russia is actually always somehow forward about what it intends to do.

It’s just that the West doesn’t want to believe it would, but rather would believe the obvious lies it keeps telling, like in 2014 when ”no Russian troops were in Crimea”.

This week Belarus accused Lithuania of attacking with drones. A population that is already been manipulated they’re at war with NATO.

It’s all out in the open. The Russian empire wants to be reconstituted.

I feel there has to be a way of training neural networks to recognise the influence of their training data on the output.

This would probably include training a complementary indexing network + database that would then ”reverse-training” resolve and offer at some predetermined accuracy the #copyright-viable sources for each generated #aiart

I need some help though. A proof would show the companies know it can be done, but they just don’t want to.

#neuralnetworks

gimulnautti OP ,
@gimulnautti@mastodon.green avatar

As to my motivation, looking forward to people making MORE contributions to AI training instead of hiding their work away to protect it from being stolen.

I am not looking for copyright violations, but a new paradigm, where generative models feed back into the creative economy.

For this rewriting of the copyright laws will be necessary. I wrote lengthily about this for the Finnish Pirate party more than a year ago:

https://gimulnaut.wordpress.com/2023/01/13/copyright-wars-pt-2-ai-vs-the-public/

gimulnautti OP ,
@gimulnautti@mastodon.green avatar

In other words: Getting paid a reasonable amount from the model providers would incentivise people to be part of the training data.

Getting also paid from using the models creatively incentivises their use, and this is where copyright reform is most needed.

Instead of remaining a grey area forever, as the industry would sure be happy about, we need legal category for the remix as legit piece of art, not bastardisation.

This week, Ukraine destroyed Russian tank number 7000 in this war.

Russia is still in this fight, because every time they lose a tank, they pick another tank from storage, restore it, and send it to the frontline.

But eventually, every storage lot will be emptied of this old Soviet equipment. And while the best equipment is likely restored first, as this war progresses, Russia will be spending more and more time restoring worse and worse equipment, while being under ever worsening sanctions.

@lolgop They think they’re on a roll, but wait until the people who want a child but can’t have any decide who to vote for. That’s a surprisingly large segment of people. 🤔

What is it with fascists and speed? Always with the speed! Always being "anti-drug" then using up ALL the drugs.

@futurebird I think you’re missing a key point on how the far right thinks;

The world is divided between those who should rule and those who should be ruled.

Because the order is already settled, laws serve two different purposes;

Laws are there to protect the ruling group, and to bind the one who is ruled. Hence, a situation where the law binds the ruler, is simply unthinkable.

Italy’s far-right party proposed using AI to assign youth mandatory jobs.

“The young person will no longer be able to choose whether to work or not, but [will be] bound to accept the job offer for himself (sic), for his family and for the country, under penalty of loss of all benefits.”
