Israel has killed more than 32,000 Palestinians in Gaza, displaced more than 80 percent of the population, destroyed large parts of the territory and imposed a suffocating blockade, bringing the enclave to the verge of famine.

But nearly six months into the war, the United States says it has not determined that Israel has violated international humanitarian law.

#Blinken should end up in The Hague, with Netanyahu, Biden and the rest

By amplifying ZAKA's unsubstantiated claims without corroborating evidence from impartial sources, Blinken tacitly lent credibility to an infamously unreliable organization. However, Blinken's and others' willingness to broadcast selectively curated information aligns the U.S. stance with Israeli propaganda efforts to reframe defensive Palestinian resistance as unwarranted aggression. Blinken's actions normalized the marginalization of Palestinian perspectives and enabled the systemic information asymmetry that nurtures the cyclical perpetuation of the Israeli occupation's oppressive status quo in Gaza, which is reaching its worst possible conclusion right before our eyes.

🇨🇦 / Parliament to vote on motion backing Palestinian 🇵🇸 statehood

[…] Canadian legislators are due on Monday to vote on a non-binding motion backing Palestinian statehood that has drawn condemnation from and that could deepen splits inside the ruling Liberal Party.

[…] "Justin Trudeau could take bold steps for peace and justice, but he doesn't have the courage. That's why we brought a motion to force the Liberal government to finally help end this bloodshed," NDP leader Jagmeet Singh said in a statement, saying Palestinians and Israelis both deserve to live in peace.

[…] The motion calls on Canada to "officially recognize the State of Palestine" - a step that no member of the Group of Seven industrialised nations has taken - and suspend all trade in military goods and technology with Israel.

/ Israeli Faces Charges After Assaulting a Protestor in NY Who Addressed Him as “genocidal Jew”

An Israeli named Yotam Dankner has been charged in New York with “strangulation, assault and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation” of a protestor named Simon Miler. Dankner claims Miler addressed him using the allegedly slur "genocidal Jew."

Dankner, who is represented by multiple lawyers, expressed surprise at being charged. His lawyer stated: "The DA's office has decided to weigh into the current Gaza-Israeli situation by arresting and charging a private citizen who was insulted by an antisemitic bigot who repeatedly used the antisemitic slur against him."

On social media, Dankner had previously commented on protests against Israel's policies in the occupied Palestinian territories, referring to the protesters' ethnicities and genders, presumably in an attempt to delegitimize their criticism.

Dankner was released on bail and awaits trial for the alleged assault on Miler.

/ Public defender's leadership called photo of staffer posing with rifle and Israeli flag 'akin to displaying a Nazi swastika," federal lawsuit claims

Cook County Public Defender Debra Gassman claims she faced reprimand for a photo showing her posing with a rifle in front of an Israeli flag. Despite prominently exhibiting the image in her office for over 20 years, Gassman says management recently prohibited its display, with one leader comparing it to showcasing a Nazi swastika. Gassman argues the actions infringe on her free speech and equal protection rights, noting that colleagues frequently showcase artwork and even actual firearms without consequence. Today, in honor of Black History Month, we celebrate the life of Ben Fletcher (April 13, 1890 – 1949), Wobbly and revolutionary. Fletcher joined the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) in 1912 and became secretary of the IWW District Council in 1913. He also co-founded the interracial Local 8 in 1913. Also in 1913, he led a successful strike of over 10,000 dockers. At that time, roughly one-third of the dockers on the Philadelphia waterfront were black. Another 33% were Irish. And about 33% were Polish and Lithuanian. Prior to the IWW organizing drive, the employers routinely pitted black workers against white, and Polish against Irish. The IWW was one of the only unions of the era that organized workers into the same locals, regardless of race or ethnicity. And its main leader in Philadelphia was an African American, Ben Fletcher.

By 1916, thanks in large part to Fletcher’s organizing skill, all but two of Philadelphia’s docks were controlled by the IWW. And the IWW maintained control of the Philly waterfront for about a decade. After the 1913 strike, Fletcher travelled up and down the east coast organizing dockers. However, he was nearly lynched in Norfolk, Virginia in 1917. At that time, roughly 10% of the IWW’s 1 million members were African American. Most had been rejected from other unions because of their skin color. In 1918, the state arrested him for treason, sentencing him to ten years, for the crime of organizing workers during wartime. He served three years. Fletcher supposedly said to Big Bill Haywood after the trial that the judge had been using “very ungrammatical language. . . His sentences are much too long.”
