Newbie printer suggestions.

Would be so kind as to suggest a printer for me? I have no experience at all with 3D printers or 3D modeling. But I am super interested and have electronics and coding knowledge. I would like to print things like brackets, enclosures for custom circuit boards, organizers, keyboard plates, etc. Ideally I would like to spend...

Every Friday or Saturday.

Wahl Lithium close clippers first, then Braun Series 7 electric foil and cutter shaver.

Maybe 5-10mins tops, ok for once a week.

Foil leaves a very smooth finish, even dry, but can be used wet if needed.

UE mini boom Bluetooth speaker

I was looking at my little speaker the other day and thinking to myself about how well it has done. My husband bought it for me about 10 years ago when we were just dating and had moved halfway across the world together with little money. It seemed like a big splurge at the time and we were using it to watch tv shows on our...

What's your server wattage?

I'm in the process of wiring a home before moving in and getting excited about running 10g from my server to the computer. Then I see 25g gear isn't that much more expensive so I might was well run at least one fiber line. But what kind of three node ceph monster will it take to make use of any of this bandwidth (plus run all my...

beeng ,

Thinkcenter tiny, 4 external HDDs, a DAC, a raspi3b+, was like 25W I think.

beeng ,

I do this and just run Ubuntu on a Thinkcenter tiny.

Then this for input off the sofa.

I also put a few Braille dots on few buttons and glow in the dark paint on a few important dots to make it more usable which really works, Braille especially.

Then... A few bookmarks in the firefox, jellyfin, navidrome, Spotify, vlc/MPV from mounted NAS etc.

I don't bother with any media/apps interface, I mostly see them as annoying and not needed with this KB/trackball setup.

Then...Bob's your uncle!

beeng ,

Since the woods has not internet, 11. No ads, no tracking. Do need the old context menus and a few things before I head out though.

beeng ,

Really? LOL

I'm on Windows for work but I login to a Linux box to do any work within the first five minutes

beeng ,

If your workload doesn't run well on a raspi you cannot use a raspi...

beeng ,

There is still the real vnc lite version btw. 3 machines

beeng ,

AFAIK they have a proprietary data format so your files aren't really that portable. Therefore I suggest obsidian and syncthing together.

beeng ,

Portable in the sense there is no lock in
ie I can get up and leave with my data.

It's a bit hard to do that with anytype.

If they stopped producing features or I wanted my data in another program, I'm stuck with a "Open source" format, but no where to go...

Unless that has changed, then I would take a look again.

beeng ,

You should have a local economy where you live...

beeng ,

Companies have heavy commercial real estate bags. They are justifying their investments by forcing RTO

beeng ,

It's like buying a very expensive pool, even though it costs money to run and service, you already bought it and will invite people to come and swim in it to justify the purchase, even though it's a giant money sink.

You can't just give it back that's also wasting money, so what are you going to do?

beeng ,

If you can't find a use case that it's better than something else you're being disingenuous. Stupid comment.

Even a tennis racquet with no strings is better than one with, at something. Eg being a necklace.

beeng ,

You're obviously not looking, since Ethereum the 2nd largest blockchain does not use mining ie no data Center needed.

Transparent is actually what blockchain is good at, it's codified contracts, now go read your banking statement and your contract and tell me how transparent it is why your money does not hit your account instantly and what banks do with it in the meantime. How about remitences, why do you have to pay such a large fee to send money over border? Yes bank has to make money you say, ok how about a blockchain that sinks the fees under 10c and that money has to make goes back to the operators of the network, transparently.

Yes you're getting instant transfers now after 10 years of waiting, because blockchain is making banks look slow and exposing their tricks.

Not gonna go further as blockchain haters usually have 2 eyes closed and love that they hate it and tell every one that they do, proudly, uncapable of having their minds changed. Which is fine, they will just be left in their old world view whilst people who adopt new technologies get on with creating value for the world and evolving to take on new challenges.

Get off the internet if you don't like datacenters and technology.

Super fun, thanks for posting.

How can I contribute?

beeng ,

15g in a French press for the morning.

Afternoon maybe a mate / green tea if I am feeling adventurous and wanting to get plenty done with headphones on.

beeng ,

Logitech MX518 is still going from like 2007, so like 17 years ago. Pretty good.

beeng ,

Hey what do you mean by multiple values?

Eg

since they support multiple values well enough.

beeng ,

Thanks. And so this is good for tracks with multiple artists? For filtering?

beeng ,

Get MaterialFiles and turn on sftp server to share all your files via network.

Then same network whether its hotspot or home WiFi.

Reminder: crypto isn’t solarpunk. It’s cyberpunk.

Listening to a recent episode of the Solarpunk Presents podcast reminded me the importance of consistently calling out cryptocurrency as a wasteful scam. The podcast hosts fail to do that, and because bad actors will continue to try to push crypto, we must condemn it with equal persistence....

That's not what peer to peer means. P2P means no middle man, nobody taking a cut eg.

Limp Bizkit - Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavoured Water

whilst shaking it up and down showing my friends how it doesn't skip.

Yes, but yes.

"What does x mean in the context of y?"

"Make me a bash script that sends my ssh public key to the server ips I list in args >4"

"draw me a mermaid diagram with 4 nodes, 1 with manual, next with automated, semi automated and lastly cicd"

"write me a go function that ping's these ips at a rate of 100 times per second and the json I reference with flag "--input"

If you cannot find a way to do parts of your job without giving up sensitive ip, I guess that's bad luck.

2 +1 chatgpt

beeng ,

FYI you can host your own version also eg azure open Ai, or use some open models like mistral and llama.

beeng ,

Corporates are much more likely to self host such stuff over a startup. Other than office, corporates I've been involved with hate Saas and pay per seat stuff as they're usually too large to justify it for everyone, self host is easier and put it on internal VPN.

Now product managers are going to have to actually write the requirements for the team.

This will be the classic requirements dilemma, make a sandwich, no not like that, no not like that either.

Gonna be fun :D

I'm aware you can just use the hyperlink tags to display these, but how do you paste them on your phone? Special keyboard picker?

Please put the difference between Proof Of Work and Proof of Stake in your uninformed comment.

Or if you are informed, then take the heavy one eyed take out of your comment. Thanks!

beeng ,

Said the seppo. 'e got no clue, just comments on comments.

beeng ,

Love this!

Do you perhaps have scalable vector file? I'd love it as a background on my thinkpad, of which I already have a large yellow Biohazard ☣ sticker on

Wow looks good, but it's minimum 9 euros to use it.

So not free....

Use work laptop as personal device by dual booting on a separate internal drive?

I currently have a Dell laptop that runs Windows for work. I use an external SSD via the Thunderbolt port to boot Linux allowing me to use the laptop as a personal device on a completely separate drive. All I have to do is F12 at boot, then select boot from USB drive....

beeng ,

OK.. Which doesn't satisfy OPs aim of the post. Check other replies to see the technical side of things.

beeng , (edited )

It's all true, but the deleting of data is so common from the simple coffee on laptop trick that you'd think if your work was that important you've already got it setup with Dropbox/one drive on My Documents for the non-eng types and git for the rest.

Can't lose too much.

I was more worried the data would get out, not corrupted.
