We are entering perhaps the most important election in history. I know that's said at every election but this time, this could very well be the last free election we have.

A vote against Biden, regardless of how it's done, is a vote for fascism. Plain and simple. It's no longer theoretical or fantasy. Or exaggeration or whatever the right is trying to paint this as.

Biden won in 2020 because it was a vote against Trump. Not because Biden was a good candidate. It just was not as terrible as Trump.

We are entering an election where Trump is promising to punish his enemies. This rhetoric is dangerous to our democracy and nation. The fact that we are debating this is by itself scary.

Trump WILL bring authoritarianism to our country. He will install himself as king and our country will be a democracy in name only. Hell it wouldn't surprise me if the fascist regime goes on to rename our country "The Democratic Republic of the Gilliad United States" just to keep up appearances.

Anyone who wants our country to be free must vote Biden in November. Is he contributing to genecide? Yes. Is he doing enough for climate change? Of course note. Is he tackling minimum wage? Nope.

But at least he's willing to listen to you. We might even be able to change his mind after he is in his second term.

You will get none of those things if Trump wins.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Alt right have a love/hate relationship with LE right now

On the one hand, they are the instrument of fascism.

On the other hand, they see it as unfairly being abused against their Dear Leader. Thus, the only fair thing to do is to use it unfairly against their enemies.

His name is Dr. Eithan Haim

For my company, food is free as is the parking. But basically the same concept: all that food is being prepared and being wasted (donated).

They tried to justify that coming into the office is paying the salaries of the custodians, cafeteria workers, etc.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Exactly! The TOS/TNG era are "benevolent authoritarianism" and conservatives, of course, see themselves as the good guys. "If things only went our way, our society would be perfect, just like Star Trek!"

I think Edington said it best. Paraphrasing, "[The Federation] are even worse than the Borg. At least they tell you about their plans for assimilation. You're more insidious you assimilate people I think they don't even know."

This. So much this.

It wasn't Trump who stormed the Capitol.

It wasn't Trump who threatened the lives election officials. It wasn't Trump who swatted jurors.

It was the alt-right.

Investigators released the fully typed, with no signature, suicide note, written on Boeing stationary:

I have decided to take my life after I lied during my Senate testimony. I felt pressured by the committee leader to say untruthful things for political gain. To the many shareholders that have helped us weather the storm over the last few months, I want to thank you and hope that, in some way, my death increases the value of your investment.

P.S. tell my wife, I don't know, make up something touching.

Title: "The most environmentally-friendly device is the one you already own."

The image shows a pie chart with Apple Corporation's CO2 emissions.

In the center are the total emissions from 2018: "25.2 million metric tons of CO2".

The pie chart illustrates the following (from lowest emissions to highest):

- End of life treatment accounts for less than 1% of emissions
- Corporate facilities account for 2% of emissions
- Product transport accounts for 5% of emissions
- Usage accounts for 19% of emissions
- Production accounts for 74% of emissions

I squeezed almost 25 years, the majority of my adult life, out of my old Dell desktop. It was my first 64-bit processor. It ran Fedora for a few years, then Ubuntu, then Windows 10 during the pandemic so that I could game, then back to Ubuntu before the SSD finally called it quits.

It saw one RAM upgrade, three HDD replacements/upgrades, and the SSD addition.

It was showing its age right up until the end.

It's life is not over. I'm going to format the HDDs and make it a NAS until the drives or the board taps out.

The fact that I've recycled an Apple laptop, several HP laptops in the same span as my desktop is a true testament to their longevity.

“Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect."

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Conan O'Brien had an interview I think with Taylor Tomlinson where they talked about this topic.

Their conclusion was that comics that complain about it being harder to do comedy are just lazy.

It's always been hard. Even if it's true that there are less topics that you can touch, it means that you have to dig deeper in the well you can. It's your job as a comic to do that hard work, not the audience's job to laugh at your shit joke.

Conan has been doing comedy his whole life and talks about jokes that do great one night and jokes that bomb the next. Comics need to learn to read the room and adjust their jokes accordingly.

I literally wrote like a week ago for a guide like this

This is awesome and answers so many questions. I kept trying to force IPv6 addresses to my machines and they kept not doing it! I also didn't know they would have multiple addresses.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

An issue I had the last time I tried to set up IPv6 up was pihole didn't work as well as I would have preferred. I assumed I just didn't set up things correctly and it's looking like that is the case based on the OP.

It kept resolving ad domains with their IPv6 address.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

This seems counter to Concept 6 in the OP.

for residential internet, the globally routable prefix can change

Do you mean that ISPs don't regularly rotate your PD in practice? I'd actually prefer that they did to maintain a semblance of privacy.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Personally, I think it was Civil War that really pushed the superhero genre. It was no longer a bunch of good guys fighting evil.

It was good guys can't agree on what good means and will fight each other to prove themselves right.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Their logic is so stupid.

You know for fuck sure that if I flew an Iraqi flag (hell, it could be a Italian flag with "scribbles" in the center), they'd pitch a fit, even if I try to defend it as "Middle East heritage".

I'd argue that it's not even about racism.

It's about them wanting to trigger blacks and libs. They don't know shit about the history of their Confederate flag. I'd even venture to say they don't know shit about the Confederacy but I'm not about to debate "history" with a bunch of racists.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Kind of big of you to assume that his mouth breathing constituents knows what habeas corpus is and what it protects.

Colorado Republican Brutally Grilled By Local News Anchor: ‘Why Is Abortion Good For Your Girlfriend? Bad For Other Women?’ ( www.mediaite.com )

Colorado congressional candidate and sitting State Rep. Richard Holtorf (R) received a tough grilling this week at the hands of local 9News anchor Kyle Clark over his apparent hypocrisy when it comes to abortion rights....

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Without looking on their Wikipedia page, I'm guessing the name is intentionally vague to anyone who isn't as familiar with French people but the name would mean something to someone who is racist/white nationalist.

I've learned that most of the insidious groups are named really innocently.

It's almost as if they need to hide their agenda so that people don't hate them.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

It's federal property. I'm not saying you shouldn't. But you'll face federal consequences and not state.

It absolutely astounds me that the federal government, the government that defeated the Confederacy, has a statue to commemorate their enemy in the war.

It'd be like having an Osama Bin Laden statue in NYC.

His wife forced him to install security cameras in every room of his apartment and banned him from going anywhere after work. She knew his schedule and expected him home immediately after work ended.

This is so toxic. Not saying cheaters get what they deserve but if you can't trust your husband, I think you have bigger problems than infidelity.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

It's out of character for her to get caught.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

There was a Jordan Klepper interview with MAGAhats and, I kid you not, someone said a version of this. One sentence after the other.

The cognitive dissonance was just unbelievable.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

But this kind of thing is ripe for unintended consequences at best and flat out bad data at worst.

When I drive I put my phone in the center so I can see the map. If me and my passenger's phones are in the center, who is marked as driving when I get into an accident?

From there, why stop at one phone? Let's put several phones in the back seat, including mine. Hell, let's have a burner phone that I use only for driving that has a throw away account. Or let's go back to old fashioned maps and GPS devices while our phones are turned off. Meanwhile, at home, I've spun up a virtual device where it is very peacefully driving a route. Perfectly. Then I have another virtual device that is driving a different route on the other side of the world driving erratically.

These companies are forgetting that the data from phones are data from devices, not people. If you're going to spy on me, I'm going to make you fucking earn it.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Why edit it out? His base isn't going to care. And even if they did, fox controls the narrative. "It was just locker room talk."

Study finds 1/4 of bosses hoped Return to Office would make staff quit ( www.theregister.com )

HR software biz BambooHR surveyed more than 1,500 employees, a third of whom work in HR. The findings suggest the return to office movement has been a poorly-executed failure, but one particular figure stands out - a quarter of executives and a fifth of HR professionals hoped RTO mandates would result in staff leaving....

Amy should be wearing the brown outfits that the aunts wear. But I imagine that reference would not be as obvious.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

They are "conservatives" because they think they are better than other people.

No joke, there is an immigrant in my state running the the GOP primary on the platform that immigration is broken and we need to fix the border.

When you talk to these people, it literally is about how it's okay because they are the good race. It's those at the border that are ruining America.

He talks about how his parents came here legally and how legal immigration is okay.

My brother in Christ, do you not realize that the GOP is trying to make it illegal for any immigration to occur? You're pulling the ladder after you, oh I'm sorry, your parents climbed on the ship. Now you're telling everyone below that they are dirty and lazy for not making it up without a ladder.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

I highly suspect that he very much knows the nuances of the system and doing what every Republican does: using racism to get elected to gain power and influence.

He doesn't care if people get hurt so long as it's the right people.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Exactly. The problem is that too many of the world's leaders don't want to upset the capital holders by limiting greenhouse gases.

These people are literally the people that Alfred told Bruce Wayne about: some men just want to see the world burn.

But at least we created some great shareholder value.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

I agree with Putin! The fact that it took 4 fucking years to get a conviction out of the orange turd is absolutely a travesty. We haven't even seen charges for his part of the insurrection!

Justice delayed is justice denied.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Like most elections that go to Republicans, it comes down to turn out.

Governor Election 2021:

  • 1.66M voted Republican
  • 1.60M voted Democrat

Compare that to the presidential in 2020:

  • 1.96M voted Republican
  • 2.41M voted Democrat

Republican voters vote consistently. Democrats often don't.

McAuliffe was a terrible candidate. It's another case of Democrats fall in love and Republicans fall in line.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

It would be deeply, deeply ironic if Mexico decided to build a wall to keep US out.

Tightened up visa requirements, making it require an act of Congress to be able to visit Cancun.

I predict a brexit-like reaction from the alt-right.

"I wanted a wall but not against me!"

CosmicTurtle0 ,

It's because the problem was being poor.

So...stop being poor.

It's easy. He just proved it!

(Massive /s but sadly, for the privileged guy, not sarcasm)

CosmicTurtle0 ,

His episodes are often available on fmovies by Monday.

This was the main topic two weeks ago and it's definitely on there.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

TIL Warner Brothers owns HBO.

Totally did not know that. I know that AT&T sold it but didn't realize Warner Brothers bought it.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Democrats fall in love. Republicans fall in line.

The problem with Democrats is that because it's a big tent, it's harder to coalesce around one or two issues. Some Democrats really care about the environment and won't come out to vote unless the candidate says they'll do right by it. Other Democrats care about prison reform and won't vote for a candidate that has a history of supporting laws that put more people into prison.

When the Republican platform is "At least we're not liberals", it's much easier to get your people out to vote.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

The hypocrisy around this argument is just crazy.

Alt-right: Trump is being persecuted!

Normal people: but president can do whatever they want, right?

Alt-right: yes!

Normal people: so...president Biden is allowed to persecute whomever he wants right?

Alt-right: (visible confusion)

We all know, in their minds, Biden is bound by the law and not protected whereas Trump is protected by the law and not bound.

But they would never admit this.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

You lied or the guy giving you the money took his percentage.

Who are you more likely to believe? The one reporting the crime or the one that committed it?

CosmicTurtle0 ,

The majority is going toward his prenup. Good on his now ex-wife and her attorney.
