@COMPU73E Square Enix's pricing is ridiculous - again. It's about 100 GBP in Japan, which would make more sense for a few acrylic figurines and digital goodies. It would be a lot less expensive to import directly from Japan or buy from PlayAsia - if it weren't exclusive to the SE store 😭

@COMPU73E Exactly, I was tempted to get it from Japan - the CE with physical CDs and art books is so much nicer than the EU edition. Only reason I no longer buy CE's is that I don't have the room for collecting, so I'll just get the regular PS5 game at release. My most anticipated new game this year, not counting the Elden Ring DLC 😂

Been playing Monster Hunter World again these past couple of days after getting caught up in the hype for Wilds.
But this time on PS4, so starting from scratch.
I had forgotten how impressive it is, even before getting to Iceborne.

This might just be me, but I always found it incredibly funny when you are looking for tracks, that once you find one, your hunter sniffs it.

It’s like this whole adventure is just a cover to satisfy your monster feet smelling fetish. 😂

I haven't really thought about this, since I started gaming with 6 and never had to onboard anybody.

That's changed now with my two kids. The older one is already interested in games. But I see that he's struggling with the controls. Modern gamepads have countless buttons, two analog sticks and a d-pad. 😬 I started out with a GameBoy, where it was immediately obvious which buttons you had to press. 1/

@jake4480 I grew up with Looney Tunes! German release is scheduled for August 1th. The German release title is slightly different btw. - apparently the publisher didn't like the "world blowing up" part so instead they went with "A sticky adventure: Daffy Duck and Porky Pig save the planet" 🤔 Anyway. Can't wait to see it!

    Is there a simple way to integrate an AppImage with a modern Linux desktop?

    @Edent AppImageLauncher works great for me on POP!_OS. It's a quick one-time installation. The helper runs an auto-integration daemon. Now I just have to drop every appimage into the same folder and it will get picked up by the launcher. Updating appimages is done by downloading and overwriting the existing image. Easy peasy.

    Had a weird thing happen just now. I looked over, my whole workstation had no power. Initially thought the power strip died. Switched a plug, nothing. The whole wall/outlet is out. Go outside, flip the switch. Come back in, things are back on. Power is back to the wall.

    But I believe the Windows 7 machine my father in law gave to me several years back is dead. Won't turn on, always has before easily. It was lagging a lot, I used it daily for many years. Suuucks.

    Looks like it's time to break that Windows 2000 machine out of the closet and put Linux on it 😂

    @jake4480 Hi Jake, I repair and refurbish donated laptops and PCs for a non-profit org once a week and it's almost always the CMOS battery. We replace them routinely. On older Dell laptops these can be fairly difficult to access under the display, sometimes they are glued in and shrinkwrapped. There is probably a guide on YT if you enter the Dell model. If it works it's a 1$ fix 😄

    YouTube has now recommended me a few videos of people showing how they beat their videogames backlog.

    Which first, I think defies the whole point of gaming (as in, we should be doing this because we have with it, right? Why turn it into a chore?). And second, it implies that people keep an actual list of games they want to play??? Not just a loose collection of whislists across multiple platforms, games bought separately and in bundles, favourited toots, screenshots, etc.???

    Watched a couple more movies yesterday; the first of the "Shinobi no mono" box set that arrived this week, "Band of Assassins" and I thought it was AMAZING. Made in 1962, black and white, this film was so far ahead of it's time it's unreal. Great fight scenes, quite bloody in places, lots of backflipping ninja action, gadgets, shuriken, smoke bombs. I loved it

    Even had Tomasaburo Wakayama in it (Lone Wolf) playing the villain

    Looking for recommendations on beginner-friendly #Linux distributions.

    I don't need any novice help, this is for a friend who wants to move away from Windows.

    They need the usual productivity software, web browser, mail, Word, Excel, etc. which will probably be easy to replace. I advised them to start working with #LibreOffice now, to see if they feel comfortable with it. They also need some more exotic software, but I'm confident it will work fine with Wine. We'll test that out soon.
    They're also very privacy-sensitive, so I'm currently discounting #Ubuntu.

    What would you suggest and why?

    Am Freitagabend bin ich auf einer Veranstaltung zum Thema Nachtzug in Freiburg zu Gast. Meine Fahrt dorthin startet heute. Wie fast jede Reise beginnt auch diese auf dem Meer, denn ich lebe in Turku, im Südwesten von Finnland 🚢

    Wenn man nicht fliegt, nimmt man mitunter schon einiges auf sich. Man investiert eine Menge Zeit, Energie und auch Geld. Aber man erlebt dafür auch mehr. Ich werde in diesem Thread mal ein wenig darüber berichten.

    I’m becoming increasingly exasperated with AI being at every turn I take. The last straw for me has been potential Apple partnership with OpenAI, and their next updates leaning heavily into AI. I don’t want unfettered AI on my phone. I just don’t. As an assistant that you just call on if you feel like it but isn’t a key function, fine. But a whole OS centred around AI (as it’s looking like, anyway), no thank you. (1/4)

    @harrybo93 Good to see phone manufacturers catching up. It seems a bit counterintuitive at first but I'm using a mostly de-googled Pixel 7a with GrapheneOS for about a year now. It allows very granular permissions for apps and is the most secure and privacy focused alternative Android OS (as far as I know) It's quite minimalist and I'm very happy with it.

    @harrybo93 AI really is becoming increasingly difficult to avoid. Eventually we will have to go back to old books in libraries, a pre-2023 wikipedia image and dumb phones 🤔 Except it's basically impossible or at least very inconvenient to travel without some public transport apps.

    I completed about a week ago and…good riddance.

    Awful - the first RPG I’ve ever played where I just decided to hammer through the main quest so I could finish the game.

    This is coming from a longtime Bethesda fan. I’m just so disappointed, y’all.

    • barren planets with the same 2-4 buildings on them
    • bland, soulless quests
    • copy and pasted assets everywhere
    • the dumbest npcs and enemy ai I’ve seen in years
    • bugs…..so many bugs

    @etebur I really tried to like the game but felt the same. Very disappointing. I agree - the enemy AI and combat is the worst I've seen in many years. I went literally afk in the middle of a shootout (mech factory) and enemies wouldn't push 🙄 Neon was such a slog with loading screens every few steps. I'm glad it's over, no way I can continue a NG+. One positive thing could be the shipbuilder, but I don't have the patience for that.
