Any psychedelic, really. I've had these kind of revelations on 25i, for example, which is one of the more visual, less enlightening psychs. It's literally like what people who have never touched the stuff think LSD is like, but I still had thoughts like this on the stuff.

Psythik ,

Damn, you can get an entire large pizza for $10 at Costco. Granted, your only options are pepperoni or cheese, and the quality isn't the best (far from the worst, though), but it'll feed 1-3 people.

Still, I miss the days when you could a large pizza with unlimited toppings at various chain restaurants for $10. But that was over 10 years ago.

Psythik ,

I don't understand. My girlfriend calls women "females".

So long as you're not using it in a disrespectful way, there's no reason why women can't be called what they are. What's next? Getting upset because I call it a vagina instead of a "pussy"?

Psythik ,

It is always morally correct to pirate Adobe products. (Or anything that runs on a subscription model, for that matter.)

Psythik ,

So the rich are God? Explains why so many people worship them.

Psythik ,

Okay somebody please explain the joke/reference I'm not understanding. Or is OP just schizophrenic?

Psythik ,

Reagan is the reason why there's such a huge wealth gap and practically no more middle class. Fuck him.

Psythik ,

What is the point of chili without meat? It would just be a bowl of beans and spices (or just a bowl of spices since beans really don't belong in chili).

Psythik ,

I get the joke but you missed my point.

Psythik ,

Hell, modern displays are just now starting to catch up to CRTs in the input lag and motion blur department.

It was brutal putting up with these shitty LCDs for two whole decades, especially the fact that we had to put up with 60Hz and sub-1080p resolutions, when my CRT was displaying a 1600x1200 picture at 85Hz in the 90s! It wasn't until I got a 4K 120Hz OLED with VRR and HDR couple years ago that I finally stopped missing CRTs, cause I finally felt like I had something superior.

Twenty fucking years of waiting for something to surpass the good old CRT. Unbelievable.

Psythik ,

Desktop, of course, simply for upgradability and better thermal management.

I have an AM5 system, so I'll be able to upgrade not only my graphics card, but my CPU as well, and have a modern machine that'll last me well into the 2030s. These days you can't even upgrade your RAM on most laptops.

There's also the fact that I don't really feel the need to game on the go, and modern smartphones have fulfilled my need to have a portable computer for everything else. When I did own a gaming laptop, I paid way too much money for it, and the battery didn't even last an hour playing something as basic as The Sims, so it had to be plugged in all the time like a desktop anyway. Within 4 years the GPU was too old to run anything at a reasonable framerate. Never buying a gaming laptop again.

Psythik ,

Dell, actually. Back in 2004 when they stated making gaming laptops with "upgradable" graphics cards. Except you could only upgrade within the same generation. So go fuck yourself if you actually wanted the latest GPU.

Also the motherboard failed twice on me. Thankfully within warranty but never again.

Psythik ,

I can't live on $15/hr. I'm barely scraping by at $18. Minimum wage now needs to be closer to $25-30/hr.

Psythik ,

Yeah seriously that's an ungodly amount of RAM for a PC of this vintage. My old WinMe machine had 128MB.

(And an 800Mhz PIII. I later added a GeForce 4 MX 4000 so I could actually play games at more than 15-20 FPS. It was my first graphics card purchase ever. Also upgraded to XP cause Me would BSoD so often that I never got a chance to do a proper shutdown at the end of the day. When the machine crashed, I was done for the day.)

Psythik ,

To be fair, if you own a smartphone, you already carry one of these devices with you everywhere you go.

Psythik ,

OK Google/Siri is built into every smartphone, genius. They have the same spying features as Alexa.

Psythik ,

For once the Supreme Court makes the right call. Broken clocks and whatnot.

Psythik ,

Where are people finding these stereotypical office jobs that allow for so much downtime? In every office I've worked in, the calls and tickets would just keep coming in non-stop. I was always too busy to have time to look like I'm busy.

Psythik ,

Couldn't think of anything other than an insult a 7-year-old would come up with, huh?

Psythik ,

What the hell is a "nob"

Psythik ,

I was about to say; isn't this about the dozenth time they've found water on Mars? It's not news anymore.

Psythik ,

Which generation? Cause in the OG games (other than Yellow), every town was a shade of either red or blue (depending on which version you had). The only town that was the same color as its name was Lavender Town IIRC.

Psythik ,

Funny thing is that I used to be a bit envious of the kids who had a GameBoy Pocket in elementary school, despite owning a GBC myself. The Pocket was much thinner, used cheaper the AAA batteries, and had a much larger screen. The GBC had color, yes, but it was a downgrade in every other way.

Psythik ,

This is true. Probably should have clarified that I was speaking from the perspective of elementary school me. All your points are correct, but Gold and Silver didn't hit the scene until I was in Middle School/Junior High, which is a completely separate era of your life when you're young.

Psythik ,

Just because it's legal, doesn't make it morally correct.

Reminds me of my aunt. Strongly against weed, then it gets legalized and suddenly she smokes more than I do. Pure hypocrisy.

Psythik ,

As someone who trashed my credit the moment I turned 18, this whole article is bizarre to me. I'm in my 30s now and I still have to pay for (nearly) everything, up front, in full (even cars). I can only use private landlords because no apartment community will approve me. If I can't afford something, I can't buy it. Amazon is the only entity that trusts me with a payment plan, because they're the only ones who don't check your credit score. As long as you pay on time, they don't care; so I always have. That's the only reason why I could afford a TV.

Psythik ,

It's so nice to see Comic Sans actually being used for its intended purpose.

Psythik ,

Libertarians are just Republicans that smoke weed.

Psythik ,

You say that and then you vote against policies that would actually give people these rights, because too much "government overreach". Libertarians have a tendency to just trust that people will do the right thing, which is a very immature and naïve way of seeing the world. If Libertarianism actually worked, then we wouldn't have Billionaires because they would be using those money for the betterment of humankind. But it'll never work because people are inherently greedy and selfish. Which is why we need government policies that force the world's elite to put their money to good use.

Psythik ,

11 easily. Not everyone hates. It personally I think it's worth it for AutoHDR alone. And the simplified start menu makes a lot of sense once you put the start button back where it goes and block ads in the menu.

Now that DuckDuckGo is out. Give me your search prompts and I'll answer them as best I can. That includes images (based on what I have saved on my PC). So what is it you wish to know or see?

Edit: Due to popular demand FatTony Search servers are down for the time being. but has gone open source just in time (Yes that's how it works 😡) . You may now get responses from other users. Servers will be back up some time later.

Psythik ,

It's not. This is yesterday's news. DDG is back up now.

One thing that annoys me about Lemmy is that it keeps stories on the front page for way too long. They should be gone after about 14-16 hours IMO. Until this is fixed, in the meantime I've been changing my post sort from Active, to Top Posts in the Past 12 Hours.

Psythik ,

Devil's advocate: Given how many old TVs there are out there that are still working and have dedicated buttons for long-dead streaming services, is this really that a big of a deal? The moral of the story is don't put dedicated buttons that go to services you don't control on your products. But that'll never happen...

Psythik ,

Look, I get it; I'm 36. But I've also come to terms with the fact that 1990 was not actually 10 years ago. Smart TVs have been around for long enough now that old ones can exist. Especially given how much faster the tech is evolving now.

My last TV from 2020 only lasted 2 years before I sold it and got a newer set. The old one couldn't even hit 120Hz @ 4K; it could only do it at 1440p. So when I built a new gaming PC, I had to get rid of it just to be able to play at my TVs native resolution and refresh rate. And don't even get me started on how much better and more affordable OLED is now compared to inferior display tech like IPS and VA. Just four years ago they would have been out of my budget. Which proves my point that TV tech evolves much more quickly than it used to.

Psythik ,

I just figured it was cause he's an egotistical asshole.

Psythik ,

Looking at that diagram, it would be really cool if they could use a second beam to generate a 3D image that you could explore in VR.

Psythik ,

I just assume that it was time dilation due to editing. The actual journey was much longer. Don't think about it too much cause then you'll start to wonder how long that song actually is, and then you'll start to question why anyone randomly breaks out into song to begin with, and how everyone seems to know the lyrics despite being complete strangers.

Psythik ,

Social Democrat, here: Both of you people suck.

Psythik ,

Let's be honest here: how many people are really still getting their news from one of those formally mainstream outlets? Not a single news outlet is in the top 50 most visited websites. Cable and satellite subscriptions are at an all-time low and nobody even bothers hooking an antenna up to their TV anymore. We all just stream everything. And when's the last time you've seen a newspaper on a driveway? I know I haven't in over a decade.

What I'm saying is that what CNN, NBC, ABC, NYT, etc. don't report on is irrelevant, because nobody gets their news from them anymore. Most people get their news from social media and word-of-mouth.

Psythik ,

Blocking Hexbear, Lemmygrad, and Lemmy.ml fixed 99% of my issues with this place.

Psythik ,

Yeah seriously; why do TVs even come with more than one HDMI port? A PC and a smart TV alone all the games and media one could ever need in their household. Hell, if you don't game and don't have a work from home job, you could get away with a just the TV itself.

Psythik ,

TBF you can still use the optical port.

Like I said to the person who started this conversation, why even bother with more than one HDMI port? Once you hook up a PC, literally all the games and media you could ever want to consume is available to you. Hell, if you don't game and don't need a PC for office work, you could get away with just the TV alone.

Not saying that TV manufacturers should start removing ports; just making a point.

Psythik ,

Also they left the lid open so the pizza is getting cold quick.

Psythik ,

Well that's where the food warmer comes into play. If you don't have one, then you can use the oven or toaster oven (set it to 140°F if it'll go that low). Take out one portion at a time and the rest will stay warm until you're ready to eat it. You can even add a small bowl of water to the bottom of the oven to help keep the food from drying out.
