Why do you think everyone should know your opinion?

glimse ,

Have you considered googling your bullshit before leaving a comment? Though I'm inclined to think you're just trolling since you're comparing a life saving technique to beating your child. Either way, take a break.

How and what will these crazy activists vandalize next? Shining a flashlight at the pyramids?!

OpenAI's Mira Murati: "some creative jobs maybe will go away, but maybe they shouldn't have been there in the first place" And you stole everything from creative people who provided free texts, images, forum answers, etc. To date, your company has refused to acknowledge any credit. "how did this sociopath get into power" is a question that answers itself.

I'm interested to know as well because the photo makes it look revolting lol

Hahaha no worries, I read your reply to the other comment and it sounds interesting!

Why Democrats think Biden’s problem is Biden ( www.politico.com )

Democrats keep doing surprisingly well in special elections. The party’s most vulnerable Senate incumbents are running ahead of their rivals in key battleground states. One of Democrats’ signature issues — reproductive rights — has repeatedly proved a winning message....

Harris's main qualifications for the presidency is that she is currently vice president.

I appreciate you posting here often but this is not a data visualization. This is just a graphic with dates on it

He's been amazing in every film I've seen him in. Plus he just seems so....normal for someone of his fame. Probably a really cool dude

I just don't get the appeal and have never figured out what his version brings to the table...he wasn't exactly a tortured artist and the music video is half him looking sad at a piano, half archival footage of all the cool things he did in his life.

I feel like if Johnny Cash wasn't The Man In Black, that recording would have stayed in the studio.

[Edit] I know he had struggles, that's not what a tortured artist means. If you're gonna reply at all, address my opinion on the quality. What does it add other than a self-aggrandizing Jesus comparison? Would the song have any recognition if not for the singer?

glimse ,

I was a big fan of his earlier stuff growing up and know all about him. He wasn't a manic depressive and he received recognition immediately when he started his music career. Any struggles he had in his life are kind of undercut by the montage of cool shit in the music video. No reference to amphetamines or painkillers, just his long and storied career.

Context aside, he just doesn't sound good in the song. He sounds like any old man singing...which is why I said nobody would be gushing over it if it were not him.

Unrelated but I hate his lyric change in Hurt almost as much as what Cee Lo did to Imagine.

glimse ,

So what does his cover bring to the table? And do you think it would be as big as it is without his name attached to it?

glimse ,

This is an awful summary. Why is it getting upvoted?

glimse ,

I'd much prefer that. Sometimes the autotldr does a great job but most of the time it deletes key sentences to understanding

I blocked a couple of the prolific meme reposters and my Lemmy experience got a lot better. I don't need to relive Reddit's Greatest Hits.

Edward Snowden releases new message: "You have been warned" ( www.newsweek.com )

Edward Snowden wrote on social media to his nearly 6 million followers, "Do not ever trust @OpenAI ... You have been warned," following the appointment of retired U.S. Army General Paul Nakasone to the board of the artificial intelligence technology company....

glimse ,

This assumes that OpenAI doesn't have bigger plans than chatgpt which is....quite an assumption.

glimse ,

You basically said it's not an issue because OpenAI is only a chatbot. OpenAI is already doing more than text and I'm sure they have loftier goals beyond what they've shown publicly.

And even if it was just text, you don't see an issue with the government shaping the responses it gives?

glimse ,

This is a great write up BUT there are other mistakes you should fix since you're helping someone learn. "He have" instead of "he has," etc.

glimse ,

No, they wrote "have" which I am saying is one of the issues with their comment

glimse ,

I probably should have worded it differently to be more clear but I was pointing out the mistakes so my grammar was correct.

But speaking of mistakes, it looks like you just made your second one by implying I downvoted you!

Would be a shame if it got vandalized

Platitudes won't help...but surely being an asshole to them will, right? Just shut the fuck up if you that's the only "advice" you can muster.

glimse ,

They didn't mean well. You're giving them way too much credit

glimse ,

I love the show but the big problem I have with it is the pacing.

I hate when shows have slow scenes just to fill the time but....this show could really use some. The last season was non-stop action without many quiet moments of character growth, just go go go

glimse ,

Without complaint? Really? The only thing she has going for her over Biden is he age

I'd vote for her the same way I'd vote for Biden - begrudgingly

Can we leave these all-text "memes" on Instagram and Facebook please? Just put the text in the post and skip the image

Transgender swimmer Lia Thomas out of Olympics after losing legal battle ( www.theguardian.com )

The US swimmer Lia Thomas, who rose to global prominence after becoming the first transgender athlete to win a NCAA college title in March 2022, has lost a legal case against World Aquatics at the court of arbitration for sport – and with it any hopes of making next month’s Paris Olympics....

glimse ,

Trans women are not biologically female - that is not up for debate. Gender and sex were used interchangeably for the majority of the Olympics' existence so you can't "well ackshually" about the definition of women's sports here - they meant biologically female and you know it. There is no contradiction unless you completely ignore the context.

You can't make statistics say anything, I agree. What happens is more sinister - cherry picking, misrepresenting, and falsely comparing statistics.

If memes with watermarks are the best Mastodon has to offer...

Wish they'd do at least the first part over here. Most "power posters" never interact with the comments and are no better than an RSS reader. It's just posting for the sake of posting

I'm on lemmy.world because the first two instances I used disappeared. It has all the features I want and I've only had one or two connection issues with it...so why change?

I did make an account on another one because I liked the URL but I figured out why .world blocked a few instances when on the FIRST POST I clicked I found a prolific commenter who signed every post "Death to America". Call it an echo chamber, but I can live without interacting with people like that.

The personal benefit of decentralization is that I can change instances any time I want to. The broader benefit is that anyone can change instances when they want to and no one corporation controls it. If lemmy.world died tomorrow, I'd carry on using the fediverse somewhere else. Not a big deal.

What is the thing in the middle? It looks like a moat but I can't figure out what "stats graft" could mean.

glimse ,

Ah, interesting! Thanks, I tried searching for it verbatim and got nothing

Please quote where anyone in this conversation said not to pressure Biden about Gaza. The comment you replied to is talking about Project 2025.

Nobody is saying we should ignore it. You invented that strawman and you're perpetuating it with this comment.
