This is my understanding of the situation so please don't fully take my word for it.

Garland refused to fully cooperate with a subpoena issued to him by rebublicans. (specifically he refused to hand over audio from an interview of Biden in his classified documents investigation) Garland refused to cooperate because Biden told him not to cooperate. Republicans in congress then voted to find him in contempt of congress and wanted the DOJ to prosecute him. The DOJ then came through saying he didn't do anything wrong because he just did what Biden told him to do. And being part of biden's administration it's only normal to do what the president asks.

If we want to go back even further iirc there was a special council investigation into Biden regarding a handful of documents found at biden's home from the Obama administration. Biden apologized saying he forgot that he had those docs. He handed those docs over to investigators and fully cooperated with them. That whole situation ended with special investigators finding that Biden didn't do anything malicious and just forgot to relinquish (I think it was literally 3) those docs when he left office in 2016. That should have been the end of it. Republicans then drudged things up and wanted his interview from that investigation. Presumably to make it look like Biden was guilty of the same crimes trump is guilty of.

Technically speaking though Biden is guilty of violating the presidential records act. The same act trump is/was being tried for in his classified documents case. The difference being that Trump willfully took boxes upon boxes of documents pertaining to our national security secrets to Mar-a-Lago when he left office and then refused to cooperate with the FBI when they called him out for it. This then forced the FBI to raid Mar-a-Lago to get the documents back. Biden on the other hand was just old and forgot about some work he took home. When he was called out about it he fully cooperated and gave the documents back.

I mean, I clearly didn't mean he had a guilty judgment against him and the word guilty doesn't necessarily always imply legally guilty. But fine. For semantic's sake, He's not "guilty", but he did in fact violate the presidential records act. It was just decided that he wouldn't be prosecuted because it was a just a small oversight. Which, to be clear, is a decision I agree with.

This is completely anecdotal on my part but I work customer service. part of my job involves resetting customer passwords for our online portal. We generate temp passwords for this to provide to our customers. These passwords often have exclamation points in them. The number of people I encounter on a regular basis who flat out just don't know what an exclamation point is is frankly horrifying. We definitely are not doing a good job teaching people how to write.

Given that there's typically no requirement for a social media page to actually belong to the person named on the page itself I can't imagine how this could possibly be legal or even enforced.

I could just say "this Facebook page under the name of my incarcerated brother does not belong to him. It's my Facebook page. I just post about stories he tells me over the phone about what he's going through. I'm under no direction from him to post anything and am posting these things of my own volition."

Unless they want to say they somehow have jurisdiction to restrict the actions of a completely free individual this can't possibly go anywhere.

It's real hard to find a purpose when your basic needs aren't met. And finding a purpose doesn't need to mean working a job that pays you money. You can find purpose in so many different ways and Id argue finding purpose in something not related to monetary gain is more fulfilling than a job. If your basic needs are met by UBI you're free to find purpose outside of the rat race.

I genuinely do not get why people get so angry about the color of a character's skin in a work of historical FICTION. I dgaf about things being historical accurate in my video games. Does the guy look cool?

It's Ubisoft so probably not. But let's assume that it will be for arguments sake.

Why is it so important to you that the character not be black? Assassin's creed as a franchise has been around for like what? Almost two decades now? And in all that time we've basically played as only white characters (with some exceptions). I don't see anything wrong with increased representation in works of art or entertainment. The more representation we see in media for any minority group the less likely it will be for the kids that grow up playing these games to grow up as racist assholes. And if you belong to a minority group, seeing someone with your skin tone represented in media will make you less likely to grow up with internalized self loathing. Like you might if all you see in media is the white dude saving the day.

At the end of the day these are works of entertainment. Their purpose isn't historically accuracy. It's entertainment and escapism. If we can't escape racism in a fucking video game how tf are we supposed to prevent it in real life?

Depends on where you're eating honestly. Some places call long flat fries home fries and other places call just like cubed fried potatoes home fries. Basically any fried potatoe shape that's not shoestring French fries might be called "home fries".

According to Uconn there is no significant overlap between the two broods. So while there will be cicadas in a wider area than normal it's not like there's going to be a bigger density of cicadas. This will likely be no different than any other brood year for most people. And if it's anything like the brood we had in MD not that long ago it's going to be a lot less dense than people are expecting.

I once applied for a job at a plasma donation center. They keep their sample freezers at -40°. During the interview process the hiring manager was going over basic info for the job and when they went over the freezer they said "And we keep the freezer at -40°C. I don't know what it is in F though." I then explained that they're the same at -40° and that's why their job posting doesn't list the unit. They then acted like I was incredibly stupid and told me that "no, there's a formula to figure it out. I don't remember the formula but theyre definitely not the same" I didn't feel the need to argue the point further so I just dropped it and moved on.

I never got a call back from them. I'm 90% sure that's why I didn't get the job since Before that point they were telling me how they thought I'd be great manager material.

I still get mad every time I think about it. Jokes on them though. I since learned they were a terrible employer. I got a way better job than that place like a week later.

You're assuming these people believe we even send things to space. I had a serious ass conversation recently with my father's roommate. Typical conspiracy theorist ding dong. Full on flat earther and everything. I asked him how he thinks GPS works if the earth was flat. He admitted he didn't know but then when I started to explain how it works by pinging satellites we put up in space he cut me off and said space isn't real. Like legitimately thinks space isn't real. He on a separate occasion also complained that we didn't need to wear masks during covid because we apparently make our own viruses in our bodies and viruses don't spread between people.

These people don't even understand how logic works. Let alone that people could be smarter than they are.

I'm so tired of this "woke agenda" bullshit. Being Woke means one thing and only one thing. It simply means you've been disillusioned from "the land of the free" rhetoric we've all been fed since we were children and you acknowledge that the institutions that have been built up in the US, whether intentionally or otherwise, disproportionately disenfranchise minorities. It has jack shit to do with climate change, politics, abortion, or gun control. (Other than maybe how those things contribute to racist institutions) being for Abortion rights or climate action or gun control does not automatically make you 'woke'. Not unless you're approaching those issues specifically from the angle of fixing how this country has historical treated POC.
Unfortunately, that's basically never the case and liberal policies that do end up being put in place either don't address minority issues at all or they may even exacerbate them.

I'm so sick of it being used as a catch all term for anything republicans disagree with. It takes the word away from its actual meaning and risks us forgetting what it actually stood for in the first place. And that's a shame. Because it's messaging is important. And the more watered down it gets the more we'll ignore the already downtrotten in this country.
