Someone here once told me of how Microsoft had these customers who pay $$$ so a real driving force in the development of Excel are these horrific, unspeakable, monstrosities of spreadsheets critical to the operations of some very serious companies, serious bookkeeping, serious material operations. The elderich horror spreadsheets are decades old, have 100,000s of rows, spaghetti code formulas— Microsoft always checks updates will not harm them. IDK. if it was true: but it felt true.

It sounds about right, though IDK about the $$$ part.

The only "error"/deviation I ever saw, if I remember correctly, was when the formula for counting cells with content started to count "" [nothing/empty] like " " and "0", erroneously as 1.

Old formulae (usually) continue working. Some time back, I had to verify that the calculations in a spreadsheet from 1995 were still correct. They were (b/c of now posterior human intervention 😉.)

I could need a bit of help regarding an old US movie which I cannot remember the title of.

It is a about a couple, probably set in the 1950s and black and white, which goes on their honeymoon in the US with a caravan. Everything goes wrong and I remember that at one point, the caravan comes off from the car and roles down a hill, I think with the bride still inside.

    Yes, and it is normal to indict and punish a former public official, even if (s)he has been Consul or president. This is how it has been since the times of the Roman Republic. France, for instance, has had no qualms doing so.
    I thought yesterday that it would be good for the US public to be educated (for the most part) or reminded of these essential lessons of history.

    I wasn't aware of this. However, 9/11 and all the (increasing) extreme-weather events show that they are indispensable.

    During the last decade or so, I have come to the conclusion that labor/trade unions are indispensable to counter robber-baron capitalism/. Tge right to self-organize is a key element of any democracy. Even if I were a brnign dictator, I wouldn't know where even to start reforming them. 🤔

    The thing is, and I think the dystopian novel, by exemplifies this better than anything, is that the veil of civilized society is so razor-thin, it wouldn't survive more than a vouple of days w/o a "policing" force, protecting the weaker citizens from bullies and looting, etc.

    What I'm saying is, it would need to be a virtually instantaneous swap....
