It hasn't made headlines though. Juststopoil goes after oil terminals, car manufacturers etc pretty often but it's never reported on. The only protest that gets attention is souping painting or spraying cornflour on rocks.

FluffyPotato ,

They have spray painted those HQs as well, the news just doesn't cover it much. So far the only way to raise awerness has been to do stuff like this. Also they intentionally haven't damaged anything historic so this works with no issue, they know what they are doing.

FluffyPotato ,

In this case it's actually dyed corn starch so this would literally wash off from the first rain. And yea, this actually gets attention, when they spray painted car dealerships of some of the heaviest polluters, protested oil companies and when a guy set himself on fire to protest climate change it gets almost no coverage.

FluffyPotato ,

This has been the most effective form of climate protest by far. When they block oil terminals or spray paint car dealerships no one will cover it making the protest pretty much useless, like a guy set himself on fire to protest climate change and that was barely covered. The stuff they do doesn't actually cause any damage but the media actually covers it because they can spin it as rage bait against the protestors but at least it gets coverage.

FluffyPotato ,

When they block oil terminals, spray paint car dealerships of the heaviest polluters or set themselves on fire the news doesnt cover it so no one will even know, while this actually works.

FluffyPotato ,

It spreads awerness, no other climate protest has even managed that. Some people obviously fall for the news rage bait but if even 1% of people gain any awerness of climate change it will have been the most effective form of climate protests by far purely on what reach it has had.

The UK also has a weird hatred of trans people, I'd rather not get my opinions from there. Also the UK has been passing police state shit long before this.

FluffyPotato ,

I'm sure that's why it's also known as terf island.

FluffyPotato , (edited )

If you wanna measure your country against those that outright kills trans people then sure, there are worse ones but in Europe, most North America and most of Asia the UK is one of the worst places to be trans. Also both of your relevant politician parties have the same policy there.

FluffyPotato ,

The Labor party runs the same anti trans stuff as the Tories.

FluffyPotato ,

I'm sure you have some black friends too

FluffyPotato ,

The UK has become completely irrelevant on the global stage be grateful I capitalised the names. Like your economy is being out paced by fucking Poland, shame is the proper response there, not national pride.

FluffyPotato ,

Yes, I said literally every person in the UK wants to kill every trans person. That's definitely what I said.

Obviously sarcasm but I feel like I need to mention it.

FluffyPotato ,

If dyed cornstarch could destroy anything on the stonehenge then it already would have been. You know it's outside, right?

FluffyPotato ,

Are you? Something just left outside for a long ass time will take more damage than even a spray of lead paint can do. And this is just corn starch, not even paint.

FluffyPotato ,

Nice try, here in Estonia we hate Russians as much as the French hate anyone not French.

Like if you wanna defend your failing country that has a two party system worse than the US go for it but at least try facts instead of national pride, it doesn't work if your country is being out paced by eastern Europe.

FluffyPotato ,

How about check the source of the quotes: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cw44mdee0zzo

The reporter first on the scene was concerned. The archaeologist was worried about the lichen growing on the stones, not the stones.

FluffyPotato ,

My absolute favourite is definitely The Ancient Magus' Bride but close second and third would be Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke.

FluffyPotato ,

I'm not American and don't much care about American politics but having a debate between 2 people both so old they can actually die on stage while age cooked their brains at least 5 years ago is a spectacle I'm not missing.

FluffyPotato ,

Murder is wrong and all but I'm perfectly fine with someone shooting someone as bad as Hitler. Corporations do financial and environmental crime on a daily basis, someone causing financial loss for them provokes no sympathy from me.

FluffyPotato ,

It's also that the liberal parties have done fuck all for people and the left parties are basically non-existent, like I have noticed the far right parties are also promising to do something for housing. Thankfully my country has a functional left enough party I can vote for but France and Germany are pretty cooked.

FluffyPotato ,

They decriminalized it during Lenin in Russia and Ukrain only but acceptance didn't really arrive, attitudes were mixed at best. At around 1925, if I remember correctly, it was labelled a mental disorder and after Stalin took power it was criminalised again with a minimum of 5 years of forced labour sentence. Any organising by gay people was labeled a fascist or anti revolutionary movement and punishments for that were much harsher.

So for a brief period of about 8 years attitudes were better than a lot of the world but it was by no means a good place to be gay. And for the rest of the USSR existence it was a lot worse.

FluffyPotato ,

It will depend on the person but for me personally I love crazy fashion, my ideal world is where everyone dressed like they were in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. So a necklace with a massive gemstone that looks like it contains the souls of a long dead race is ideal.

FluffyPotato ,

This meme just confused everyone who isn't American or doesn't follow American politics.

FluffyPotato ,

Yea, that's what I meant. In the rest of the world libertarian is still a left wing ideology with no connection to ancaps.

FluffyPotato ,

Libertarianism is a anti capitalist, socialist and very left wing ideology everywhere except in the US where it apparently has been co-opted by insane people with the opposite beliefs.

FluffyPotato ,

I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with a computer in the woods but I guess Windows 7 if I have to pick between those.

FluffyPotato ,

Germany really is cooked. You guys got the nazi party 2 electric boogaloo so close to being in power that it's ridiculous, your green party shuts down nuclear only to start shoving excessive amounts of coal into atmosphere, you guys took such wrong lessons from the holocaust that now you are just defending another genocide because a Jewish ethnostate is doing it and now this.

FluffyPotato ,

They way coalition governments here work is that before forming a coalition they agree on a general idea of what to do and what they are absolutely not on-board with and if the coalition government does something that is absolutely against your party you can just exit the coalition basically dissolving the coalition government. Are you saying that in Germany coalition members don't have the ability to stop an action that should go against everything your party should stand for?

Also isn't the AfD the second most popular party currently?

FluffyPotato ,

Around here when swine flu went through the country we basically lost the whole pork industry because the first priority was to eliminate the disease. Does the US want a pandemic to be named after them? Because it seems to head in that direction. I think Freedom Flu is a pretty catchy name personally.

FluffyPotato ,

While yes, a socialist country would have other priorities but let's also not forget that the USSR wasn't socialist. Before Stalin it had the potential to be sometime in the future but that got sidelined at best.

FluffyPotato ,

Workers had no control over the means of production. Those were owned by the party which was just another form of bourgeoisie rule. A good example of that was the insane amount of nepotism in the party leading to appointment of friends and relatives with no competency who went against the wishes of the workers. Trofim Lysenko for example was appointed by Stalin and his policies forced farmers to basically kill their crops leading to mass famines in the USSR and those that didn't were declared fascists, traitors or something along those lines.

It's not socialist if the workers lack any control.

FluffyPotato ,

Planned by the party, not the workers. Workers lacked any voice in the party, it was no different than any other authoritarian rule in that aspect.

I grew up in the USSR, nearby farms were controlled by a kolhoos which was headed by someone important in the party, the farmers had no say in what was to be produced or to who their produce goes to, only the party decided that. The same control existed for every other industry, party gave the orders with no input from a single worker, commonly even going against workers in their orders.

I would love a system where workers actually controlled the means of production but the USSR was not that.

FluffyPotato ,

Do you mean ancaps? Because I'm pretty sure most libertarian would be for universal healthcare. I have heard Americans use libertarian for ancap which are pretty opposing ideologies, I'm not sure what's up with that.

FluffyPotato ,

Google has been unusable in English for at least 2 years now. Searching in Estonian makes Google behave like it did when it was still good. I wonder how long that's going to last.

FluffyPotato ,

There's a reason the EU doesn't extradite their citizens to the US: the justice system is considered inhumane.

Why Ukraine Should Keep Striking Russian Oil Refineries ( www.foreignaffairs.com )

Washington’s criticism is misplaced: attacks on oil refineries will not have the effect on global energy markets that U.S. officials fear. These strikes reduce Russia’s ability to turn its oil into usable products; they do not affect the volume of oil it can extract or export. In fact, with less domestic refining...

FluffyPotato ,

Raising global oil prices should not really be a consideration when you're fighting a war for your survival. Anything that can help Ukraine survive is good.

FluffyPotato ,

This is from January, at this point they must be pretty prepared.

FluffyPotato ,

He's not wrong but also I believe there's a saying in English about stones and glass houses.

FluffyPotato ,

Can't electoral reform be passed on a state level in the US? I know shit about the US but I heard someone mention that.

FluffyPotato ,

This triggered a lost memory of watching bootleg MacGyver with some friends while getting blackout drunk celebrating Estonian reindependence after the soviet occupation collapsed. It was in German (None of us spoke German) and he was also doing something with some nitroglycerin on a truck.

FluffyPotato ,

I was in my early 20s when the Soviet occupation collapsed here, the victims here were everyone not high up in the party.

Sure, capitalism fucking sucks but pretending the USSR was anything other than just bourgeoisie rule is delusional. The oligarchs were just called the communist party then.

FluffyPotato ,

Yea, no shit, nothing to do with what I said though.

FluffyPotato ,

Yea and I was commenting on how things were in a country under the occupation of the USSR. So both temporally and geographiclly unrelated.

FluffyPotato ,

The USSR had a minimum sentence of 5 years of forced labor for being gay. Being gay is also apparently wrongthink.

FluffyPotato ,

Yea, I know, I'm not defending capitalism. I'm saying every attempt at communism has been fucking horrible for not just landlords and capital owners.

FluffyPotato ,

If you are violating the ears of anyone unfortunate enough to share a public space with you because you are compensating for something you should have more shame.

It's fine to have a small penis but advertising it to the world is not ok.
