So, the last few days the general public has seen conclusive evidence of what many already knew. CNN and the New York Times are corrupt organizations using their power and influence to get Trump elected.

Going forward temper everything from these media organizations with the sure knowledge that they are not neutral arbiters of the news, but rather sophisticated political influence operations.

NYT: must drop out bc he can't handle 's lies.

Also NYT: The lies that we, the journalists whose job it is, instead call "boisterous."

It's just confession after confession from NYT, about their own rank failures to do what they demand of Biden.

Disgraceful NYT headline: Trump merely "boisterous." Yesterday they said "Blustery." They do it every day.

At first it is hard to believe that most people don't pay much attention to politics. Most people don't know what "project 24" is or the significance of the phrase "obstructing an official procedure" (maybe you are such a person) --but, when I think about how tense, nervous and occasionally helpless political news makes me feel I totally get it. Also, a lot of this stuff is boring and kind of technical.

Colby ,
@Colby@mastodon.world avatar

@futurebird I agree with you completely. It’s blatantly obvious the Democratic Party is not doing nearly all they could be doing, especially with regard to messaging. Your hypothesis is reasonable. Another is that the really big donors - those invested in selling arms to Israel for example - will actually do as well or perhaps much better if Trump wins. Those pulling the strings do not really want Dems to win big, if at all.

    For those losing their heads over today's actions by Judge Cannon, take a deep breath. This was always going to happen. The writing has been on the wall since Judge Cannon was drawn for the case. Getting all worked up about it is only going to make you crazy and desperate. The way we will rid ourselves of this menace is at the polls in November.

    When ocean waters become too warm, causing coral reefs to bleach and die, that imperils the entire marine food web — and ultimately a food chain that helps to feed eight billion people.

    🚨 We are in a planetary climate emergency. 🚨

    Global heating has pushed the world’s coral reefs to a fourth planet-wide mass bleaching event that is on track to be the most extensive on record, US government scientists have confirmed.

    Some 54% of ocean waters containing coral reefs have experienced heat stress high enough to cause bleaching, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Coral Reef Watch said.

    The first global bleaching event happened in 1998 with 20% of the ocean’s reef corals exposed to a level of heat stress high enough to cause bleaching. The second event, in 2010, saw 35% reaching that threshold, and the third from 2014 to 2017 peaked at 56%.

    Dr Derek Manzello, the Coral Reef Watch director, told the Guardian the current bleaching was likely to surpass the previous most widespread event soon “because the percentage of reef areas experiencing bleaching-level heat stress has been increasing by roughly 1% per week”.

    Manzello said global heating had combined with a global El Niño to push up sea surface temperatures. He said predictions made by scientists decades ago about the fate of corals in a warming world were now coming to pass.

    “The bottom line is that as coral reefs experience more frequent and severe bleaching events, the time they have to recover is becoming shorter and shorter. Current climate models suggest that every reef on planet Earth will experience severe, annual bleaching sometime between 2040 and 2050.”

    Prof Ove Hoegh-Guldberg, a pioneer of coral research who was among the first to link bleaching to global heating, said: “It’s a shock. We clearly have to prevent governments from investing in fossil fuels, or we won’t have a chance in hell to save reefs.”
