From the time I was little girl, the NYT arrived at our door every single morning. My folks were progressive, but what was printed in NYT was about as trustworthy as Walter Cronkite and Huntley & Brinkley. But pretty much all the major newspapers have given up their scruples & succumbed to whatever will keep any kind of revenue flow. (I know ppl are going to protest "not WaPo", but they have their moments.)
The writing and editorial staff of the Times knows they and their family won't have to taste the muzzle of a gun to prove their allegiance to the new Reich. They are trained to trust deeply in the ethical credo that "complicity keeps you safe".
Nazis ARE the New York Times.
@GottaLaff@emptywheel yes yes yes. We rightly criticize the NYT every four years. They’ve brought us here. Yet most continue their subscriptions, year after year
Are we going to start talking about Trump's open claim to have an agreement with Russian that they hold a US journalist hostage to help him win the election?
Did Trump also get Russia to work with Hamas to hold hostages to help him win, too?
Maybe NYT could assign 12 of the journalists writing Joe Biden debate stories to investigate why Trump is so sure Gershkovich will only be released if Trump wins?
The utter negligence in covering Trump as the lying, evasive, autocratic nutcase he is is deeply alarming.
Just look at the debate, a wildly unhinged Trump gets nearly zero coverage (because that's what everyone knows he'd be like) and all attention is on Biden's bad night (with almost no comparison to his many other solid public performances)
NYT and all the MSM are trying very hard to make this a close race. Damn the facts or repercussions.
Not just the NYT. Perhaps Justice should open up a self-admitted violation of the Logan Act (18 USC 953). Leave it to Garland. He could have a special council chosen by this time in 2027, right?
