Woah, an actual campaign promise? Maybe the Dems do want to look like they're trying after all.

BallsandBayonets ,

A more conspiratorially minded person could come to the conclusion that Republicans were behind the whole assassination attempt, to make the Toupee appear strong and to turn the media's attention back to them.

BallsandBayonets ,

Cool. Can we also be done talking about how you're not as bad as the Toupee? I'd like to hear why you specifically are the best option, not just the less bad one.

BallsandBayonets ,

They did say it was a bipartisan bill. When the two parties are regressive and conservative, you can't expect any progress.

Parking lots, warehouses, malls, walmarts (and similar superstores), even stretches of in-city highways. There's millions of acres of viable space for solar panels, just no financial incentive to install and maintain it.

BallsandBayonets ,

I'm picturing those automated severe weather warnings that play on the radio, except about potholes and crosswalk painting.

BallsandBayonets ,

The thing is Dems usually pretend to be slightly less bad than Republicans. This "just shut up and vote for our man" is typically a Republican strategy.

BallsandBayonets ,

Biden's campaign strategy has been "I'm not as bad as the Toupee." That's not any different than the Toupee's strategy.

BallsandBayonets ,

So he's never been competent. That doesn't surprise me but it's still not a reason to vote for him.

I'm a bartender. Half my paycheck is tips (and still isn't enough to live in the area, but that's another issue). There shouldn't be a tipped minimum wage. Period. Tips should be optional, not a way for employers to make customers pay their employees' wages.

Long gone are the days when you made $7.25 an hour on your paycheck and took home hundreds in cash per night. People are tipping less, eating out less, and carrying less cash. Paying everyone a livable wage and eliminating the need to tip would help everyone, except the owner class.

Loud engines aren't a technological or engineering problem; they're a self-esteem problem. Universal healthcare that includes mental health support and a strong working class economy will go a long way towards addressing those with low self-esteem, but they'll never go away entirely.

A decline in my cynicism that is caused by factual occurrences in reality.

The monthly subscription to the kiosk software still costs more I bet.

But it is killing jobs, and that's what's important.

BallsandBayonets ,

You mean extended unemployment, seeing people turn medical fact into political beliefs, not having the opportunity to spend time with the few people that don't annoy me, and day drinking?

Please sir may we have another

The only irredeemable people are those that don't return their shopping carts.

BallsandBayonets ,

You don't get away from Biden's baggage by having him step aaide. His record, his endorsements, his policies, those all come with the package.

That's a good point. The entire Democratic Party has failed the working class (because they were never on our side to begin with). Whose name is on the line on the ballot next to the D is irrelevant; we've already lost.

BallsandBayonets ,

Bernie is about as extreme as Taco Bell cheese is spicy.

Everything Google has done was better before they inserted machine learning. Google Maps used to give accurate lane-specific directions, then they switched to using approximate traffic data to determine directions, and since most drivers are morons, Maps now tells you to turn right in a straight-only lane and make an illegal left turn in 150ft after crossing 4 lanes.

I too would welcome extermination of the human species by aliens.

It's definitely the right move for her at this point. If Biden steps aside (or dies) before the election, the Democrats aren't going to nominate someone who didn't back Biden. Publicly backing lets her stay on the team, and maybe one day have a shot at the Presidency herself (assuming we get more than four more years before fascism wins).

BallsandBayonets ,

We don't have a democracy, or even a direct republic as our political system. It's an oligarchy of the wealthy (by the wealthy, for the wealthy). Every four years the owner class picks (independently of public opinion) which privileged persons get to play the role of elected officials, then put on a show involving a lot of wasted money and time pretending that the common citizen has the ability to affect the political process.

The owner class has determined that the best way to stay in power is to stoke the deep-rooted tribalism in every person by highlighting trivial differences. This results in one side of the owner class pandering to intentionally under-educated bigots, and the other side of the owner class occasionally pretending to not be bigoted.

Whether by accident or intent, the more openly bigoted presidential candidate has made clear the end game of the owner class: outright fascism. The less openly bigoted side of the owner class has decided it is in their best interests to not put up any meaningful resistance to this.

BallsandBayonets ,

Want to "win overwhelmingly"? Stop saying you're not as bad as the Toupee. Duh. There's at least 300 million people in the US that fit that statement. Don't tell us to vote against the Other Guy, tell us why we should vote for you, specifically. You had some trivial wins in the past year? Advertise them. You have some plans for working class Americans that you'll pretend never existed the second the election is over? Promise them!

If you want us to vote for a specific person, tell us why that person is worth voting for. If the strategy remains "I'm not as bad as the Other Guy", you might as well just put a blank line next to the D on the ballot.

Same thing goes for all you centrist supporters who automatically assume everyone who wants a better candidate than Biden is secretly a Russian troll who will be voting for the Toupee.

BallsandBayonets ,

I vote for the party and it's [sic] beliefs, not the man.

Which beliefs? That compromising with fascism is the best way to deal with it? That the best way to move this country forward is to continually offer a "lesser evil"? That occasional lip-service to not being bigots is enough to distract us from the burning planet and infinitely yawning chasm between the owner class and the workers?

BallsandBayonets ,

I think I've finally figured out the Democratic Party's strategy here. The Dems have never held the presidency through two consecutive candidates, save for the VP taking over after the president's death. They're pushing Biden so hard knowing he'll die shortly into his second term, then they'll have Harris for at least one term, giving them a slight advantage in 2028. And if they can secure a second term for Harris, that gives them eight years to mildly delay fascism, and by that point the earth will be on fire too much for any government system to matter.

BallsandBayonets ,

Harris. Easy answer. Already has name recognition, already has been planning to take over as President (if even a single Democratic advisor isn't brain-dead), and scares the Republicans because she's a woman and black. Sure, she's a cop, but there aren't any good options in the Democratic Party, and she won't put up with Trump's shit.

And isn't past retirement age. Of course she wouldn't have universal support, but I doubt there's any Democrat who could have less support than Biden right now.

As for all the things Biden has done, I have heard of a few trivial steps in the right direction his administration has done. That's great. Why isn't he focusing on them in his campaign? Ignore the Toupee. Tell us what empty promises his administration is going to make. Nearly every sentient being is a better option than the Toupee, that's not a compelling reason to vote for Biden, that's just a reason to vote for anything else.

BallsandBayonets ,

Why do you and other Centrists keep saying that as if us on the Left don't know, and as if that will get us to vote for Biden? Everyone knows Trump is the worst. There's literally over 100 million people in the US that would be a better choice than Trump. Why should Biden get the vote out of all of them? "Because he's the nominee" "there's not enough time for a replacement" "some states are dumb and won't change the ballot in time" don't give a fuck. Why should Biden get my vote?
