Yep. Someone reading the headline might think she tried to drown a black or Hispanic child. That really misrepresents what happened.

AmidFuror ,

I'm starting a Super PAC aimed at doing just that. Stay tuned for details.

Ma'am, you may not cover your hair. It's oppressive if a man forces you to do so, so we're going to force you not to.

AmidFuror ,

I'm curious what you mean. Hasn't Hezbollah been targeting Israel for decades? There's already been the South Lebanon Conflict and the 2008 Lebanon War.

What will they find out that they didn't already know?

AmidFuror ,

The discussion was specifically about what Hezbollah would do to Israel in a new war and not how fault should be parcelled out for their long-running conflict.

Anyone who knows that money is important to political campaigns in this country.

Columbia University professors refute ICC and UN Gaza famine claims ( www.i24news.tv )

Columbia University professors Awi Federgruen and Ran Kivetz have presented research findings asserting that sufficient food supplies are entering Gaza, disputing claims of famine perpetuated by the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the United Nations (UN, The Jerusalem Post reported on Tuesday....

AmidFuror ,

You're ignoring that the law states that the Commandments are “foundational documents of our state and national government.”

As you may be aware, it was very important to the Founders that people have no other gods and not make graven images. The U.S. Constitution specifically forbids taking the Lord's name in vain. And of course, it is required to keep the Sabbath holy.

No coveting, either, whether it be houses, wives, or animals. Those are right out.

AmidFuror ,

You could counter that by posting more articles casting Hamas in a positive light.

AmidFuror ,

I think the implication is more that these can form in the absence of life. We'd need a lot of space rocks to get just traces. But if they can form spontaneously there, they could form from conditions on earth, too. And that's more likely to get things started from very simple beginnings.

AmidFuror ,

Please elaborate. What do you doubt? Which women?

Kamala Harris: Hamas Committed Horrific Acts of Sexual Violence on Oct. 7. We Will Not Be Silent ( www.haaretz.com )

U.S. Vice President's remarks come amid allegations from Israel's critics that claims of sexual and gender-based violence were either fabricated or exaggerated in order to provide justification for its military response in Gaza...

AmidFuror ,

There's evidence Hamas killed and violently abducted people on Oct. 7. Are you saying rape is required to respond?

AmidFuror ,

When did you decide Hamas members are so moral or well disciplined that they would never rape an Israeli?

AmidFuror ,

I agree with you that rape requires intercourse.

Does it have to be rape to be manufactured consent or can it be sexual violence? It's a weird thing to quibble about.

AmidFuror ,

I expect we'll see Sinclair local news stations all talking about this tomorrow.

Great way to sell a book to a much broader audience.

AmidFuror ,

I mean, this is Japan. Has to have the highest per capital ass-washing toilet rate in the world, right?

AmidFuror ,

I guess they're linking it to easing COVID restrictions because hand washing helps prevent it. Did people stop washing their hands after using the toilet in Japan once the restrictions let up?

AmidFuror ,

Maybe I'm not understanding you. Why not say it is up from 2021 and 2022 instead of it is up since restrictions were in place? They are linking the uptick to the easing of restrictions by highlighting that as a difference between now and then.

Hand washing was encouraged and presumably increased during the restrictions. For any other country I would assume that also meant after using the toilet people were more likely to wash hands. But how much would that have impacted that culture in Japan?

AmidFuror ,

OP, you reversed the names in your post. You had me questioning my own recollection of that quack.

I don't know how to answer your question, but I do have a long unrelated anecdote to share followed by some questions of my own.

AmidFuror ,

Sweety, you've got a lot to learn about this town.

AmidFuror ,

Most of the audience laughed at this Jeselnik joke. Usually groaning followed by laughter. It's not starving kids, but it's in the same vein.

Got to walk around a little bit today. Saw a baby. Saw a baby locked inside the back of a hot car. So it’s been a great day. Love that. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not a monster. I tried to help the baby. Tried to throw a rock through the window. Window was down. Ruined that baby’s whole weekend. It was worth it.

Outrage over ‘massacre’ in Gaza as Israel rescued four hostages ( www.theguardian.com )

At least 274 Palestinians were killed and 698 wounded in Israeli strikes on the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, Gaza’s health ministry said on Sunday. The Israeli military said its forces came under heavy fire during the daytime operation....

AmidFuror ,

This is a ridiculous take. They didn't come under heavy fire because they didn't take heavy losses? It's their very heavy response to the heavy fire that minimized their losses while taking a high toll on Palestinian civilians and militants.

Do you think the hostages were unguarded and free to leave at any time because Israel said otherwise?

AmidFuror ,

Feel guilty for getting captured by one set of murdering lunatics and then freed by another set? Why? What was their misdeed? Going to a concert? Surviving a massacre?

AmidFuror ,

Repressed brown people can do no wrong.

AmidFuror ,

You may be mistaken that he is lying. You may also be lying about it. I think the charitable thing would be to not assume you're lying.

AmidFuror ,

Exactly. And the other comments so far are pretty ignorant. All close elections are won by winning over independents AND people registered to the other party. Just because Republicans in Congress appear largely in lock-step with Trump doesn't mean Republican voters are.

It's fair to speculate that many Trump haters left the Republican party in 2016 and more in 2020. But certainly not all of them. And beyond the Trump haters are a swathe of people uncertain or uncomfortable with Trump who can be won over.

AmidFuror ,

Ah, too bad.

Elections are won by appealing to the center, where the majority of the populace sits, while not alienating (too many) people on your flank.

Two party politics is a lot of this problem. Ranked choice voting would help a lot. But even in parliamentary systems, coalitions have to gather support in the center without pissing off the edges too much.

AmidFuror ,

The ignorant center. You need ignorant people to vote for you to win elections.

AmidFuror ,

Don't accuse me of lies. Trump dog whistled to the far right and appealed to the ignorant center. The folks who thought he was a savvy business man who would run the country better than some lifelong politician. The ignorant center that somehow thought Trump would create jobs and restore the rust belt to it's former glory.

AmidFuror ,

This comment seems to have misogynistic and racist undertones.
