There's some serious Trump amnesia going on.

Hamas Wants Guarantees Ceasefire Will Actually Happen, While US Says Hamas Is Rejecting the Proposal ( truthout.org )

Following the UN Security Council vote to approve a three-phase ceasefire in Gaza, U.S. officials and other international allies of Israel are cynically placing blame on Hamas for a stall in current ceasefire negotiations — even as Israel has insisted on indefinitely continuing its massacre in Gaza and Hamas has said its main...

Sounds like this deal is on thin ice already. Not surprised.

Is everything the worst?

I'm 43, almost 44, years old and went through a bought of alcoholism during the early part of the pandemic. I went through treatment and have been fine since. However, I can't help but feel that all the news in the last few months is just the worst. Between the AI bullshit, the wars, the effects of capitalism, and the political...

GiddyGap ,

Living in the US, I see on a daily basis the indifference to climate. It's been heavily politicized. One side cares a little, the other side does not care one bit. It's very sad to see.

I also lived in Europe for many years where climate is less politicized and more mainstream. Most people try to do their best to contribute regardless of their political preferences. It's a big difference to what I see in the US.

Nobody wants planes that fall out of the sky and lose sections mid-flight? Why not?

GiddyGap ,

Trump will just dismiss the fact-checkers as biased and continue.

GiddyGap ,

Dang, there are a lot of political weirdos out there on the left and the right. Get a grip.

Biden Administration Tightens Mileage Standards to Buoy E.V.s | The new rule requires automakers to achieve an average of 65 miles per gallon across all models by 2031. ( www.nytimes.com )

The new standards require American automakers to increase fuel economy so that, across their product lines, their passenger vehicles would average 65 miles per gallon by 2031, up from 48.7 miles today. The average mileage for light trucks, including pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, would have to reach 45 miles per...

GiddyGap ,

They are also tightening fuel efficiency for light trucks.

GiddyGap ,

I think you skipped US Government 101. In this country, if you're not voting blue, you're voting red.

GiddyGap ,

They are completely blinded by this guy.

GiddyGap ,

I'm never going to be on the side of Hamas, but there's no need to make a mockery of something that will surely involves civilian casualties. Shame on her.

GiddyGap ,

Go look up the debates between Biden and Trump from the 2020 campaign. Biden literally had to ask Trump to "shut up" on stage. The Cheeto-dusted dipshit literally could not stop interrupting. How embarrassing.

GiddyGap ,

Republican congressmen and women and Republican Senators will just say it's a hoax trial and a corrupt justice system. It's not a sane world right now.

GiddyGap ,

Yeah, but museums don't have money. All hail capitalism!

Why Megadonors Are Unfazed by Donald Trump’s Guilty Verdict | Money flowed into the former president’s re-election campaign from Wall Street and Silicon Valley following Thursday’s historic conviction ( www.nytimes.com )

With the billionaires backing him, it's going to be on us as individual Americans to make sure Trump doesn't end up in the White House again. That means not just voting but talking with people around you, volunteering and donating

GiddyGap ,

Americans are very odd.

GiddyGap ,

Seems like most Americans are attracted to extremes of all sorts, so extremists thrive.

GiddyGap ,

But also don't automatically dismiss until we know more.

GiddyGap ,

Imagine the difference a Gore win would have made.

GiddyGap ,

McConnell spent his entire political career focusing on the Supreme Court above all else. The current conservative majority is his masterpiece, one that will affect American life for decades to come. He did that while his opponent were bickering about the smaller stuff.

It will take decades to change back, but get out there and vote whenever you can.

GiddyGap ,

Definitely. I despise close to all of his work, but there's no denying the efficiency.

And it makes it very clear how important it is to vote every time.

GiddyGap ,

I actually just want permanently higher gas prices like in Europe to facilitate the move to EVs. The US needs to break the addiction to oil.

GiddyGap ,

viewpoints like that are harmful towards the working class

News flash: The working class in most of Europe is doing much better than the working class in the US. And that's with much higher gas prices and higher taxes.

They also drive more EVs and have a heck of a lot higher quality public transportation.

GiddyGap ,

As someone who has lived in Europe for more than two decades, I can tell you that most rural zones in the EU do not lack public transportation. EVs become cheaper when it's the norm. Lmao

GiddyGap ,

I know nothing about Spain. I've lived in several northern European countries, and it's nothing like you attempt to describe.

GiddyGap ,

I'm comparing the most comparable region of Europe to the US. You're comparing the least comparable region of Europe to the US. Lmao

GiddyGap ,

Oil should be made obsolete. Everyone knows it, not everyone will admit it. And one efficient way to do that is by making it more expensive to use oil-based products. We have a climate and a planet in dire trouble, my friend. We need to find more alternatives, and EVs are a great alternative. But you coal-rollers can't seem to get past your lame-ass trucks and V6s. How ignorant.

GiddyGap , (edited )

You keep saying that I think oil should be more expensive in Europe. Not once did I say that. Not once. I said gas should be more expensive in the US like in Europe to get off the oil dependency.

GiddyGap ,

Basically all of western Europe.

But that's much like the States. If you live in much of the South, you may as well live in a third-world country.

GiddyGap ,

What other countries do is build viable public transportation to counter.

GiddyGap , (edited )

Definitely agree. But there are a lot people in the US who have been conditioned to whine about "communist public transportation" every time it's brought up, so it never really happens. EVs are a good middle ground to get many of these people onboard with more environmentally friendly transportation.

GiddyGap ,

Yet, progressives are contemplating not voting because Biden is "not doing enough." Guess they'd rather see what Trump has in store for them.

There are more than 40 percent Republicans in South Dakota.

GiddyGap , (edited )

Yeah, I'm sure Trump will be your man and the defender of the rights of brown people and women...lol

GiddyGap ,

Governments are pretty damn inefficient and tend to waste a lot of money because of the process and bureaucracy.

I wish you would take a look at how government works in places like Scandinavia and much of Western Europe. Their universal healthcare systems are very efficient and cost-effective.

Other than politics and gone-wild ideology, there's no reason the US couldn't do the same.

GiddyGap ,

Yeah, because Donny will surely stand up for Gaza much more than Joe ever did...

Republicans Flock to Trump’s Trial, Risking Control of the House Floor ( www.nytimes.com )

"The House was in session at the Capitol on Thursday, but thanks to the latest procession of Republicans reporting for duty in front of a Manhattan criminal courthouse to show support for former President Donald J. Trump at his trial, the party risked ceding its control of the floor,” the New York Times reports....

GiddyGap ,

Please go support the Trumpster more often. Thanks.

GiddyGap ,

In America, you can be anything you want. So don’t be weak and gay.

So, you can't be anything you want? It's incredible that she doesn't hear the irony.

GiddyGap ,

You can be anything you want as long as it's what we want.
