I know about Anne Braden because of a Flobots song but I didn't know about her husband.

At long last we have created the Torment Nexus from the classic sci fi novel "Don't Create the Torment Nexus".

Arm lawsuit against Qualcomm could threaten all Copilot+ PCs ( www.techspot.com )

Microsoft, Qualcomm, and several other PC vendors will launch a series of laptops next week that Microsoft is promoting as a new foundation for Windows on Arm and the emerging AI PC trend. However, Arm claims that the inaugural Copilot+ PCs violate its intellectual property rights.Read Entire Article

ARM is the antithesis of Linux. I'm hoping RISC V goes somewhere.

A7thStone ,

I realize that. It doesn't mean I like it. ARM is just a corporation that makes money by holding IP. It's the opposite is open source.

It's never to late to start. We just had a guy who was 45, and worked in an office his entire career, join our apprenticeship. Being a union electrician is a great gig. Our pay is great and the benefits are awesome.

Honestly, I'm convinced it wasn't counterfeit. The police refused to show any evidence of the bill other than a single photograph. If they actually had it they would have been parading that on fox 24/7. But, yes, even of he had knowingly used a counterfeit bill that doesn't justify execution, let some extra judicial execution.

I'll believe corporations are people when Texas executes one.

TIL in the Carboniferous Period, no fungus existed to decompose trees. They just grew on top of each other up and up.

The weight of the trees was so great that the ones on the bottom got squished and became coal. That’s where coal is from. Bonus fact: the whole time this was happening, sharks were hunting in the oceans. Sharks are older than trees and fungus!

I'll second GEM. The 520ST was my first computer as well.

A7thStone ,

You still should have a dedicated circuit for your microwave, and a second for your refrigerator in the states according to the national electrical code

Having been a motorcyclist in NYC this is true. They will try to hit you to keep you from doing something they can't. I can't imagine how much worse it must be for cyclists.

One of the nuke plants I work at put in a hydrogen electrolyzer two years ago for this reason, and they are doubling it's size next year because it worked so well. Their "problem" is different than solar. Nukes constantly put it the same amount of power, so they feed the excess into the electrolyzer when demand is low, but it's basically the same idea. Electrolysis id inefficient, but if you're producing more energy than you can feed into the grid you may as well do something useful with it.

A7thStone ,

I agree. Carbon capture is not the solution, no one thing is, but it should be one of the many things we use to work toward a solution.

Now that DuckDuckGo is out. Give me your search prompts and I'll answer them as best I can. That includes images (based on what I have saved on my PC). So what is it you wish to know or see?

Edit: Due to popular demand FatTony Search servers are down for the time being. but has gone open source just in time (Yes that's how it works 😡) . You may now get responses from other users. Servers will be back up some time later.

BTW your spoiler tag didn't work.

A7thStone ,

No problem. I thought it was amusing, but figured you'd want to know since you intended it to be under a spoiler tag.

A gram of plutonium has enough calories to last you the rest of your life.

Wasn't that the second episode of Black Mirror?

A7thStone ,

That's not exactly what it's doing. Cavitation is when when the pressure of a liquid reduces below the vapour point. Heat isn't involved the liquid "boils" because the vapour point decreases with reduced pressure.

But they said a rising tide lifts all boats. Were we lied to?

A7thStone ,

This really talks to the world view of these people. They are so stupid they think everything is a show put in for other people. They believe everyone is just like them. That's why they project more than AMC. Their obsession with "virtue signaling" is a perfect example.

A7thStone ,

I'm all on board with fuck Disney, but this time they were right. They are only trying to do the right thing because it's more profitable for then currently, but it's still right. It's like the article I read the other day by Cato about how fucked up the immigration system is in the states. I know Cato only cares because they see a profit angle, but it is bizarro world when I'm agreeing with Cato.

If you're up for it start with the Robot novels, or even the Robot short stories, and go through Empire then Foundation. The Empire novels are the weakest of the entire multiple millennia spanning story, but it's worth reading the whole thing in my opinion.

2014 Golf tdi. I live in the states where diesels aren't as common. I'm glad I found it though. It's a blast to drive and the fuel efficiency is great.

A7thStone ,

Have you considered just being born rich?

A7thStone ,

I like how only one of the three pictures in the article had a crab using plastic.

A7thStone ,

That's what I was thinking. Cato is awful, and as the other person replying to you was saying how fucked is our immigration system that Cato, of all places, wrote an intelligent article that I mostly agree with.

A7thStone ,

It's number one on iTunes charts right now. How much effort did they have to put in to game that system?

A7thStone ,

I was reading an article about how ssd prices were thing to go up this year because of supply issues unrelated to this. Why do I get the feeling they are just coming up with excuses to price gouge?

A7thStone ,

Gamergate got co-opted by Milo. Steve Bannon took him in and used the tools learned from gamergate to weaponize disaffected white males. This led directly to the rise of trump. It wasn't the only thing that got trumplethinskin elected, but it was part and it was intentional.

The clip of him screaming "Fuck it we'll do it live" is s great example of this. He doesn't understand the term "play us out" so he gets angry at everyone. He can't comprehend that that there are turns of speech he doesn't know, but rather than ask he gets angry at everyone else and pitches a fit like a toddler when they are confronted by something they don't understand.

A7thStone ,

They will everyday, as they and their ignorant co-workers use it as an insult towards each other.
