A curious Torresian Crow I came across yesterday morning.

It was having a drink at the lake edge, and when it heard my camera shutter it started looking around.

Ropalidia revolutionalis, the stick-nest brown paper wasp—because it builds long, thin nests out of a plant-pulp paper and is brown; descriptive names are helpful! This one's just starting her nest: each of those cells will soon hold an egg.

There goes the neighbourhood.

A Great Egret enjoying a quiet perch in the sunshine, at the very top of a tree, in on a cold morning at Berrinba Wetlands

Here the first pair of Australian White Ibis loudly arrive to join the bandwagon (and end that moment of zen)

Another Tasmania shot from last year. A magical few minutes spent with the endangered Swift Parrots feeding on the side of the road at Adventure Bay, Bruny Island, Tasmania.

Haven't shot much recently, so here's a throwback to our Tasmania trip, with a previously unreleased image of a Tasmanian Silvereye (Zosterops lateralis ssp. lateralis).

    Breakfast buffet

Backlit by the bright morning sun, a mixed group of finches enjoying grass seeds from grass dripping with dew

Here, the foreground bird is a Red-Browed Finch while out of focus in the back is a Double-Barred Finch

    Samford Eco-Corridor

Two small birds sitting in long grass eating seeds. The foreground bird is facing right away from bright low sun so is partially in silhouette. The background bird is out of focus.
