A Spotted Pardalote we encountered at the Highfields Falls reserve, just out of Toowoomba.

Completely fearless and quite curious, it foraged around about 3-4m away from us for a good minute before moving on.

A very small bird with a short beak sitting on the thin branch. It has a buff coloured body, yellow throat, black cap and wings with white spots on them. There is a prominent white brow, and below the eye, a black and white mottled patch extending down the side of the neck. The short tail is black on top, with a red base, and yellow rump underneath.

    I've finally managed to photograph my local Spotted Pardalotes. My BirdNet-Pi has detected their call for weeks now, but I hadn't managed to see one.

    This fellow happened to pop down for a peek when I was returning from the letterbox.

    A tiny, but strikingly beautiful bird on a branch. The bird has deep black upper colouring liberally sprinkled with bright white spots, and a prominent white brow. Underneath, it is shades of yellow and red, from rich egg yolk yellow on the breast and tail, to pale buff-yellow on the belly, and a little splash of red on the rump. Here it is pictured side on, facing right, so you can see it's great colour variation from head to tail.
