I think (but don't know for sure) Paramount basically gutted the Shudder human curation crew and spun up Ye Olde Algorithm for programming choice. I really love the idea behind what Shudder is supposed to be, but I've never felt the need to retain a subscription for more than a month at a time, a couple of times a year.

Good ones I see in this list:
    Hunter Hunter
    Valhalla Rising (although not "horror")
    Loop Track

I could need a bit of help regarding an old US movie which I cannot remember the title of.

It is a about a couple, probably set in the 1950s and black and white, which goes on their honeymoon in the US with a caravan. Everything goes wrong and I remember that at one point, the caravan comes off from the car and roles down a hill, I think with the bride still inside.

    Hint: I don't think it's this movie:

    Thanks!

@HistoPol @noondlyt @Tim_McTuffty @mina I didn't grow up here and I have limited knowledge of pop culture. Almost all of it from Simpsons and South Park references. So, have fun

I haven't watched many (new) movies since about 2011?, so what's the "The Matrix" of the 00s and the 10s that The Matrix is to the 90s

Obviously this is a real, quantifiable thing with a single answer

if you enjoyed 'Shōgun' the 1st 3 'Shinobi' films may be of interest as they effectively function as a prequel + lots of ninja trickery: walking on water, flaming shuriken, climbing claws, sleeping gases, poisons, flash bombs, tatami mats...

my of the new Radiance box set of 'Shinobi parts 1, 2, & 3' (1962–63) is published in Frame Rated:

2024 marks the 45th anniversary of one of the ultimate sci-fi horror masterpieces. Alien was released May 25, 1979.

@jake4480 @horror I believe the correct phrase is 'edited for time and content'. ;>) Love this film. Did end up seeing it in the theater a few weeks back, and I watched UHD version a few days ago. There really isn't much to edit in this film, and if you do, you end up losing some iconic, pivotal moments. It's a stone cold classic!

Saw it when it first came out in theaters...my girlfriend peed on herself...embarrassing but funny.

    Skinamarink (2023)

Experimental, a concept focused on the aesthetic and sound experience, terrifying and uncomfortable. It's the kind of immersive movie, with symbolism and interpretations, where nothing is shown in a normal way, the grainy images, the unusual angles provoke scares and tension. The sound of the film is spectacular and makes the experience of watching the movie unique, it feels like a nightmare. A very original masterpiece.

    Rating: 10⭐️

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi was released in movie theaters 41 years ago today.

For me, this conclusion to the original trilogy was a bit anticlimactic after the masterpiece that was The Empire Strikes Back.

One of the best sequences in the movie was the Sarlacc Pit battle.

A gif of Jabba the Hutt (aboard his Sail Barge) ordering Luke to be thrown into the Sarlacc Pit. Suddenly, Luke jumps off the end of the plank on the Sand Skiff he is on and R2-D2 launches his lightsaber into the air. Luke catches the lighsaber and begins to attack Jabba's forces on the Sand Skiff with it.

I’ve just finished reading Space Odyssey, a fascinating account of how Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece, 2001: A Space Odyssey, was created. If you have any interest in that great film, or in science fiction movies, or the history of movies in general, or even just in well-written absorbing nonfiction, then I highly recommend this book.
