I haven't watched many (new) movies since about 2011?, so what's the "The Matrix" of the 00s and the 10s that The Matrix is to the 90s

Obviously this is a real, quantifiable thing with a single answer

Meta lost $3.85 billion on the metaverse in the first quarter of 2024 alone. You know, that thing we all laughed about a couple years ago and next to no one actually uses.

It’s burned $45 billion on the metaverse since the end of 2020.

$45B and it's still worse than some of #TheMatrix #sequels

(NOTE: I actually like all the films, and have written essays about them. Go ahead, look me up...)

Just re-watched #TheMatrix and it holds up really well. The dystopian story is still relevant, fight choreography and art direction are a masterpiece, even the OST is still mostly great.

I remember how groundbreaking and influencial it was in 1999, everyone knew the lines, we could basically quote the whole movie. Even today my teenager son instantly recognized Neo's bullet time and Trinity's iconic kick from Fortnite 😄

Time travel to 1999 here for some cool stuff: https://web.archive.org/web/20050701012447/http://whatisthematrix.warnerbros.com/

Animated screensaver from the movie The Matrix (1999). Many columns of green characters and numbers are moving on a black screen from top to bottom like on an old computer terminal. The colums are then transitioning into the title "The Matrix".
