I like immigration. I like not to have serious skills gaps in our services. I like mixing with people who grew up in other countries. I like being enriched by other cultures. I would like the feeling that my country opened its arms to people fleeing terrible situations elsewhere. I don’t understand why other people don’t think like this

I’m trying to chill on the patio but someone is using some sort of noisy machine on the other side of the stream and Tom has just announced his intention to mow the lawn, so I think peace and quiet is out of the question. Boo to noise on a Sunday

Morning! I slept badly, I was awake in the night worrying about my PhD/career/future/life. Tom says it will all work itself out, a few days ago I was confident it would all be OK but now I’m very anxious. I’ll try not to think about it for today, got friends coming for dinner so that will be lovely. I suppose it makes a change to be anxious ABOUT something, not just generalised and free floating. Anyway! How is everyone?

I turned on Channel 4 to watch Taskmaster, which starts soon. There's the end of some property show.

The people had a nice, homely, colourful house. Needed a bit of spit and polish, sure. But basically pleasant.

And now every room is white. With white cabinets and white shelves. White white white white white. Everything is completely and utterly and inhumanly plain.

And now they're talking about how a place can be 'perked up'?! There's no perk! They've taken away any hint of character and humanity!

Stop making everything white!

Cynthia is a large purple knitted chicken with bands of pink and turquoise. She was made specially for me by a Mastodon friend in my favourite colours. She’s sitting on a wicker hamper against the wall of the fireplace, which is exposed brick. To the left of the shot is the bottom of a tightly packed bookcase. Cynthia’s expression is benign, yet clueless. No thoughts, only clucks

    TIL it's considered passé to use the word 'banger' with regards to a song. Richard Osman has apparently banned it and as we all know he is in charge of the Engerlish language. However I use banger quite a lot. So now have to come up with a pithy word that hyperbolically highlights my enthusiasm for a piece of music. Can we bring back Nathan Barley? That song is well Mexico.

    Morning everyone. Not a particularly happy morning for me. Apart from feeling rubbish and oh so tired, I have this year's bullshit appraisal meeting at ten.

    I used to get very anxious about these, but now they just annoy the hell out of me. It's meaningless; I have to pretend that I've developed professionally and plan to make significant career progress in the next twelve months, when there's no possibility for either (and I've spent all my time dealing with data problems).

    At least the senior colleague who's doing the appraisal knows that this is the case.

    Emotionally wrung out after my counselling session. I was supposed to join an online journaling group at 3pm but I was far too tearful. I’m weepy because the counsellor was NICE and VALIDATING and concerned with my wellbeing and happiness. These things make me come undone

    I’ve finally been hit by the UK-wide medication shortages exacerbated by Brexit. My pharmacist can’t get my antipsychotic. The GP surgery blithely suggests that I just switch to another drug until he can. That is… really not how psychotropic meds work. I’ve got the community mental health team receptionist running round trying to get a prescription for this drug from my psychiatrist to be filled at the hospital pharmacy - IF they have it. Stress!

    Good morning. I paid for yesterday afternoon’s delicious nap with nighttime insomnia. I had to put a sleep story on to drown out the anxieties in my head. Got my first uni counselling session this afternoon, so obviously I’m now anxious about that 🙄 How are you today?

    Guess what, the visit from the social worker was FINE 🙄 We agreed she doesn’t need to see me again, the issue is not depression anymore but anxiety, confidence, feeling differently about myself and what I want to do with my life. Seeing a uni counsellor tomorrow for that stuff

    Good morning! Even though I’m feeling a lot better, a big source of anxiety for me is the thought of travelling anywhere by myself. So I am bravely going to Swansea on the train this morning to meet my friend. Telling myself I can absolutely do this, it’s just the journey I used to take to work, but I’m weirdly nervous. It’ll be fine, right?

    I've mentioned that I'm getting a new boss, and new boss is not going to be replacing old boss directly - they'll be going into a newly created role (because of an organisational restructure).

    The proposed job description has been sent around our team for feedback before the vacancy is published. Would it be wrong for me to suggest that a key responsibility for this new role is:

    "Let the quality improvement person get on with their job, leave them alone, and stop inviting them to fucking meetings all the time"

    @RolloTreadway @RickiTarr My daughter and her bf to an Interrail tour to reward themselves for completing their Masters degrees, they did nearly that except they didn’t get as far south in Italy as Sicily and they slipped in Hungary, the Czech Republic and Amsterdam

    Just looked up how I would get to Orkney to visit the friend I met yesterday without flying. It would take 1 day 1 hour by train to get the Thurso to catch the ferry to the islands, going Wales to London, London to Edinburgh, then to Aberdeen, then change at Inverness for Thurso. Hmm
