Nothing left to sustain human life as Israeli forces turn North Gaza into a wasteland
Israeli forces have destroyed water wells, public facilities and infrastructure, while health facilities are now completely out of service. Whatever is remaining of these health facilities is nothing more than a skeleton, nothing more than a morgue to receive bodies that are collected from the streets or removed from under the rubble.
Thanks to President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we are rebuilding roads and bridges, delivering clean water, tackling pollution, and creating good paying jobs in communities nationwide.
Woman pleads guilty to conspiring with neo-Nazi leader to attack energy grid
A Maryland woman admitted to scheming with a neo-Nazi leader from Florida to destroy electrical substations surrounding Baltimore in an attack that she told a confidential FBI source would be “legendary” and “probably permanently completely lay this city to waste.”
“There are no water, electricity, nor sewage services” in Khan Younis, a displaced man said. “We walk two to three kilometres (1.2 to 1.9 miles) to fill two jerrycans [of water], and those two jerrycans are not enough to meet the needs of the family.”
I'm preparing a talk on resources for French civil servants (now they will have to attend one presentation on #climate, one on #biodiversity, and one on resources as part of a mandatory continuing education) and I thought I would share the images I'll be using here, as I find some of them are quite nice.
Over the last decade, severe #storm outages increased by 74% compared with the previous 10 years.
High #winds, #rains, winter storms and tropical #cyclones including #hurricanes, accounted for 80% of all power interruptions over the last 20 years, a new report from non-profit research group Climate Central shows."
Today, we're excited to launch Infra Finder - a tool to help you navigate the landscape of #infrastructure services + standards enabling #openresearch & scholarship 🚀

There's a lot to enjoy in @debcha "How Infrastructure Works". But I particularly enjoyed the details about the Dinorwig Power Station. The UK's largest battery. Had never heard of it before!
Here's an article she wrote about it for the Guardian:
Here's decent article on the history and possible futures of Oakland's 980 freeway, a perfectly redundant and grotesque example of American apartheid infrastructure.
Now that urban real estate speculation is more lucrative than maintaining an underutilized shortcut for suburban commuters, it turns out builders and the city officials who love them are salivating over this "public" land once again.
Who benefits from freeway removal is just as important a question as who benefits from freeway expansion. If 980 removal isn't directed by and for the benefit of the Black people dispossessed by its original construction, this will end up just another boondoggle for developers.
Oaklandside:
"Could tearing up an Oakland freeway undo decades of racial injustice?"
"Most of the funding, $621 million, will go toward 36 projects aimed at bolstering the resilience of existing infrastructure through things like improving draining, moving roadways, and lifting up bridges.
An additional $119 million will go toward protecting, strengthening, or removing at-risk coastal infrastructure like highways."
I've been saying this for some time now. Never thought I'd see a US department say the same — but the NYC Department of transportation just did! And it's not the first time I've seen them post some really good stuff about bikes. This gives me hope.
“Almost everything that allows a human society to function has been destroyed: civil register, property register, cultural and health infrastructure, most of the schools built by UNRWA”.
Tesla’s Fremont factory was “the plantation” over racist abuse, but that wasn’t enough for Elon Musk.
Workers building his Boring Company tunnels have been using the same language over the terrible and unsafe working conditions they’re being subjected to.
