@humanadverb the witches are what people are talking about.

@humanadverb I think it was more about the sapphic undertones in the relationship between the two main witches.

It seems to be a common misconception that a lot of radiation is a major effect of fission and not fusion.

Fusion is just the power of the sun right? Just remember that what we call sun burn is actually a radiation burn.

Sometimes you read an Internet thread in 2024, and it takes you back to simpler times. This morning, I read a new thread (yes, I checked the date) where people were earnestly and nerdily debating how the Enterprise would fare against an Imperial Star Destroyer (not well was the consensus opinion btw).

Tim_Eagon OP ,
@Tim_Eagon@dice.camp avatar

@Thebratdragon As pointed out on that thread, turbo lasers aren't actually laser - they fire blasts of electromagnetically contained plasma that can apparently easily penetrate ST shields.

Tim_Eagon OP ,
@Tim_Eagon@dice.camp avatar

@DM_Zeppelin If we're lucky!

Tim_Eagon OP ,
@Tim_Eagon@dice.camp avatar

@BrianBinh @Thebratdragon Yeah, that was the basic argument. Plus, the Enterprise would be swarmed by TIE fighters.

Tim_Eagon OP ,
@Tim_Eagon@dice.camp avatar

@chgowiz I have seen those types of comparisons in the past, but not in a long, long time!

@tenzochris I had to pick up my wife downtown yesterday and I heard about East Wash, so I went down Willy St. For some reason, everyone was turning left, so I tried to navigate over to East Main. Yeah, that was a mistake...

@tenzochris I turned around and went back to Willy St. before going into the water.

2024 will be the first time since I started playing D&D as a kid that I will not be buying the core D&D books of a new edition.

Until now, it was just an auto-buy. I didn't even question it - what was I gonna do, NOT stay current with D&D?

But recent developments have just been disappointing. There are plenty of other RPG's out there, and I'm finding I enjoy them more than D&D.

I'll always have nostalgia for D&D...but then, I'll also have the rulebooks from that nostalgic era.

Tim_Eagon ,
@Tim_Eagon@dice.camp avatar

@lonespelunker I’m in the same boat.

Tim_Eagon ,
@Tim_Eagon@dice.camp avatar

@lonespelunker I'm sure it will be at least an initial success, though I doubt they'll replicate 5e's reception between 2016 and 2022. IDK, it's just not what I'm looking for in a game anymore and WotC's missteps haven't helped. Maybe I'll pick up the revised core books when Amazon heavily discounts them or something.

Brats on Hulu is pretty interesting. One of the questions it raises is exactly who is part of the . I always thought the members were the main actors in the Breakfast Club and Saint Elmo's Fire. I never thought of guys like Jon Cryer or James Spader as part of that group. They were "Brat Pack adjacent" to me. Michael J. Fox wasn't even BP-adjacent. It's clear that people's answers to that question vary wildly.

Tim_Eagon ,
@Tim_Eagon@dice.camp avatar

@gsllc I'd figure you need to include Sixteen Candles and Pretty in Pink in the list of movies that would make you eligible for Brat Pack membership.

YouTube's algorithm veered into sovereign citizen cases from court Zoom hearings for some reason.

So many hours and resources are wasted with people who think the government is "fake."

I'm reading for the first time (no spoilers pls), and oh my God is it one of the most hilarious terribly, horrifyingly bleak books I've ever read.

Tim_Eagon ,
@Tim_Eagon@dice.camp avatar

@artemis When I was at UW-Madison, I took the WW2 History course to satisfy my European history requirement. That year, it was taught by visiting professor Stephen Ambrose (the guy who wrote Band of Brothers). As part of the class, we had to read Catch 22 and Slaughterhouse 5. I had a lot of problems with how he taught that course, but having us read those two fiction books was not one of them.

I don't know about . Episodes 3 and 4 have displayed stilted dialogue, somnambulist acting, indifferent plotting, and a complete lack of dynamism in terms of visual direction. I'm not sure it can pull it all together in the last four episodes based on these trends.
