All 3 men remarked on the #Israel#Hamas#war in #Gaza, reflecting on the difficulty of trying to solve intractable challenges such as #MiddleEast#peace as #POTUS. #Biden said there have been “too many innocent victims, Israeli & Palestinian,” in the conflict.
#Obama addressed a protester when he was interrupted by saying, "You can’t just talk & not listen."
"That’s part of #democracy," he added. "Part of democracy is not just talking. It’s listening. That’s what the other side does, & it is important for us to understand that it is possible to have moral clarity & have deeply held beliefs but still recognize that the world is complicated & it is hard to solve these problems."
During #Biden’s speech on #healthcare yesterday he was interrupted by protesters advocating for #Palestinians in #Gaza. Instead of ignoring them & moving on, #POTUS responded, “They have a point; we need to get more care into Gaza.” He added, “Everybody deserves healthcare.”
#LloydAustin focused on the dire consequences the #war has had for #Palestinian#civilians. “The number of civilian casualties is far too high, & the amount of #HumanitarianAid is far too low,” he said. The #UnitedNations#Security Council on Mon passed its 1st resolution calling for a #Gaza#CeaseFire after 4 failed attempts. The #UnitedStates abstained, allowing it to pass. The resolution, backed by 14 nations including #China & #Russia, demands an immediate cease-fire during the Islamic holy month of #Ramadan & the release of all hostages. 4 previous cease-fire resolutions had failed, including 1 proposed by the #US on Fri.

The site that Kushner wants to develop was bombed by Americans in 1999. It was a military target, although with mixed civilian uses. The building (which #Trump’s SIL plans to destroy) commemorates Yugoslav Partisan victories over the Nazis in tense canyon battles during WW2.

#Trump’s son-in-law #JaredKushner has offered his own solution to the mass bloodshed & displacement in #Gaza: some good, old-fashioned real estate development.
During an interview w/ Tarek Masoud, the faculty chair of Harvard’s #MiddleEast Initiative, #Kushner proposed moving #Palestinians to #Israel’s arid desert region to “clean up” Gaza’s “valuable” waterfront.
“Gaza’s waterfront property could be very valuable to—if people would focus on building up livelihoods,” #Kushner said, w/o clarifying who exactly would #profit off such a proj.
He suggested displacing remaining #Palestinians from “valuable” waterfront,& dropping them in the desert.
“…something in the Negev,…move people in there…,so that you can go in & finish the job.”
