megopie , in Will House Democrats defend the speaker against unseating?

The fact that he is so vulnerable to the furthest off the rails of his party makes him useful. That they’re keeping him in the position means they can get him to support legislation they want.

To just toss him aside after one vote would mean no further leaders would be willing to rely on them and go against the most absurd.

Think of it like a new coalition in government.

Truck_kun , in Will House Democrats defend the speaker against unseating?

That a handful of extremist republicans can grind the government to a halt, is a sign of how weak the republican party has become.

It literally only takes about the same handful of republicans to work in a bi-partisan fashion to completely neuter the movement and get the government working, but they are all too scared of Trump and his followers, and deciding to retire early instead of tough it out.

None of this is necessary if you just don't lock arms with the crazies on the most inane shit you don't even believe in.

I'd prefer they let him get ousted then they provide votes to a more traditional Republican nomination.

I deserve all that!

I believe most people deserve all of that.

All of these, and a high five when I do a good job

Deserve is a strong word. But free time, freedom and love is what I work for.

sfera ,

You probably implied it, but I think that it doesn't matter what one deserves but what they actually get and if they are content with that.

I deserve treats and belly rubs.

t3rmit3 , in What do you deserve?

I don't just deserve them, I think they're basic human rights.

Freedom isn't something you do or don't deserve, period.

"Free time"- time when we can determine what to do, rather than being coerced into doing what a company wants by the gating of necessities behind monetary systems of control- is the default state of all creatures.

Love is something the human mind and body require.

Did you know bees relax a lot

LoamImprovement , in What do you deserve?

I think I deserve not to have to justify my existence through labor, especially when the disparity between the value of my labor and what I'm paid for it is determined by forces outside of my control. I would love to wake up one day and not be obligated to work in order to live, even if it's just a meager existence, because as it is I've already pared down to very little outside the essentials.

Hi Millie if you need some support feel free to pm me about your situation, maybe I can find something. I know it's hard when you're inside of it.

millie ,

I appreciate it. I sent you a message.

Me to others: yes.

Me to myself: maybe, depending on the day.

I'm probably too critical towards myself.

Does it occur everywhere on Beehaw or a certain page? Does it happen if you are logged out?

LordJer OP ,

It seems to occur randomly when I select next page on Beehah. Also yes it does still happen if I log out of my Beehah login. Just now it popped up with an image of George Santos.

apis , in What is this weird pop up image of a keyboard on my screen?

Just tried on my iOS Safari, and did not see anything like this, whether logged in or logged out. Usually use Memmy app.

Unsure if relevant, but I do block a lot of DNS requests.

Where do you live and how safe do you feel there?

xilliah OP , (edited )
@xilliah@beehaw.org avatar

I've lived in many places in Europe and currently am in a small city in the Netherlands. I've also lived in a village in the Bible belt here.

I am not afraid of confrontations, and so far I've been able to handle them. But this is only with a specific kind of frustrated person. Most people are kind.

About half are supportive, and people even keep up to me in public to tell me about their support.

The other half is kind but will misgender me and deadname me if they know it. I've stopped caring and just don't become friends with them. Of course it always has an impact and it can create a lot of pain.

Edit:

I'd like to add that emotional safety plays a role.

That's why I can't spend time with some people. If for someone for example uses the wrong pronoun, then that is effectively invalidating me entirely. And it happens a lot, including in medical circles. I've been infantalized plenty of times. And I know that all women are deeply familiar with such experiences. But the solution is that I have to keep distance from such people.
