Reviews said this is long and Costner's character is hardly in it, and that it sets up the next two movies but isn't a great stand alone movie. I'm still excited to see it, I don't need every movie to follow the same formula

Chinatown at 50: has there been a greater screenplay since? ( www.theguardian.com )

Sometimes conventional wisdom is true: there has been no greater original screenplay in the last 50 years than the one Robert Towne wrote for Chinatown. None more elegantly plotted and politically charged, none more literate and historically evocative, none more pungent in its hard-bitten dialogue and sophisticated in its play...

Can anyone access this article? Is this a documentary showing Trump being horrible or what is it?

“It is unfair how I am treated,” he said, “the moment I see a female and say ‘hello there female’ they always leave after saying something. I don’t know what they said because I wasn’t listening but they are being very rude.”

“I don’t understand what it is that makes women seem uncomfortable around me... likely they are just intimidated to be in the presence of a real alpha man like me. I don’t blame them for that.”

workerONE ,

That sounds terrible. Why are we treating people like this?

How do you put pigeons on the pill? Scientists test contraceptives to curb pest numbers ( www.theguardian.com )

The invention of the contraceptive pill heralded the sexual revolution of the 1960s, and now scientists are looking to revolutionise wildlife control by getting animals in on the action. Trials are under way in the UK and elsewhere in Europe of how to get contraceptives into pigeons, wild boar and grey squirrels, with scientists...

"In each instance, the three petitioners, led by Moris Esmelis Campos-Chaves in the case stylized as Campos-Chaves v. Garland, were sent an initial “notice to appear” or “NTA” that did not contain date or time information. And, as a result of that missing information, those notices did not fall in line with the statutory requirements of the INA. Later, each petitioner was sent a follow-up notice or notices that did contain the date and time information of their removal hearing. In time, each petitioner was ordered to be removed by an immigration judge. They later sought to reopen their cases and have those orders tossed.

Now, the Supreme Court has ruled that so long as the government eventually sends an immigrant notice containing the correct date and time information, the removal process can be initiated."

EV motors are simple and cheap to develop. The cost is in designing new cars, but the motors are cheap to develop.

His view on Ukraine is pretty crazy, I don't think people can support him in good conscience. It's not enough to say that Russia's actions are evil if you validate their supposed reasons for invading Ukraine.

Biden Administration Tightens Mileage Standards to Buoy E.V.s | The new rule requires automakers to achieve an average of 65 miles per gallon across all models by 2031. ( www.nytimes.com )

The new standards require American automakers to increase fuel economy so that, across their product lines, their passenger vehicles would average 65 miles per gallon by 2031, up from 48.7 miles today. The average mileage for light trucks, including pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, would have to reach 45 miles per...

Genetic mutation is always occurring. It's not trial and error, there is no intent to do anything. You make it sound like a function but it seems like more of a failure to me.

I'll add to your statistics:

35.7 million Republicans, 48% own a gun
= 17.1 million Republican gun owners

333 million Americans, 32% own a gun
= 106.5 million American gun owners

17.1 ÷ 106.5 = 16% of American gun owners are Republicans

16% is not close to 90%

workerONE ,

The statement is that "the party" "owns 90% of the guns"

It seems obvious that 100% of the guns would be all guns in the US. So the claim is that Republicans own 90% of the guns in the US.

I did make a mistake though- I counted gun owners. So my math would be flawed if per owner, Republicans owned more guns than non Republicans. The claim was about how many guns they own out of the total guns, not how many gun owners are Republican vs non Republican.

A checking account is a liability to a bank because it must be prepared to pay out the balance if the account holder decides to withdraw. Forcing banks to treat crypto holdings as liabilities makes the bank hold more in reserves in order to be better prepared for a bank run.

How does it protect people's identities? Edit: it helps the government identify people. People should have the choice to keep their personal generic information private. If it's in people's best interest then tell them how they benefit from it and let them decide.

The DMV is going to do genetic testing when you apply for an ID? Or a bank will require it for a loan?

When you look at the way the world works you see this will just be another tool used to control and exploit people.

workerONE ,

I agree but I think it's too bad that someone needs to choose between deleting a comment to stop the spread of lies and propaganda and the other option of leaving it in place so people can see it. I think it's helpful to see that people like this exist, it helps you understand why people are opposed to these types of people and who is being called a tankie in a negative way.

It used to take multiple generations to build a house, before houses were constructed by companies for profit.

workerONE , (edited )

A small shelter can be built in less than a season but a permanent house could have taken several people years of work to build. They can be built up over one or more generations, or can be a communal effort like in social systems with clans.

‘You wouldn’t put your dog in this river’: Boat Race exposes Thames Water failings ( www.theguardian.com )

The company took in excess profits while mismanaging it and not maintaining infrastructure. To blame this on government inefficiency seems dishonest. Should society trust critical infrastructure to for-profit institutions?

This one is particularly interesting: The palmar grasp reflex is thought to be a vestigial behavior in human infants. When placing a finger or object to the palm of an infant, it will securely grasp it. This grasp is found to be rather strong.[74] Some infants—37% according to a 1932 study—are able to support their own weight from a rod,[75] although there is no way they can cling to their mother. The grasp is also evident in the feet. When a baby is sitting down, its prehensile feet assume a curled-in posture, similar to that observed in an adult chimp.[76][77] An ancestral primate would have had sufficient body hair to which an infant could cling, unlike modern humans, thus allowing its mother to escape from danger, such as climbing up a tree in the presence of a predator without having to occupy her hands holding her baby.

The article says the Trump administration considered killing Assange but gave up the idea. The article says that the new plan is to kill him by putting him in prison for the rest of his life. This isn't killing someone though. Language is meant to convey meaning, this is just word play.

Also, I don't really feel empathetic towards Assange, he acted as a Russian mouthpiece with his show on RT and his interference in the 2016 US presidential election.
From WaPo:
"Assange is a foreign national who reportedly collaborated with Russian intelligence to derail Clinton’s candidacy. As unredacted portions of the Mueller report show, during the 2016 presidential election campaign, WikiLeaks communicated both with Trump advisers and with Russian-intelligence (GRU) front organizations, DCLeaks and Guccifer 2.0. WikiLeaks subsequently sought to cover up its connections with the GRU."
