@futurebird @Bron1954 I wonder if sleeping is a kind of hibernation in miniature. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the most important factor to quality of sleep was not the duration but whether we were in deep sleep during the coldest part of the night.

In fact, the temperature changes in the day night cycle could be viewed as the seasons in miniature.

    This simple trick works every time ...

    "Bread and Circuses" a metonymic phrase referring to superficial appeasement. It is attributed to Juvenal (Satires, Satire X), a Roman poet active in late 1st and early 2nd Century AD, and is used commonly in cultural, particularly political, contexts.

    Juvenal here makes reference to the Roman practice of providing free wheat to Roman citizens as well as costly circus games and other forms of entertainment as a means of gaining political power.

    Story Concept: A secret society of paleontologists and archeologists who make a pact that when each of them dies the others will go to wild lengths to stage burial circumstances most likely to be preserved, even fossilized to confound the intelligent life of the far future. This includes weird burial objects, suggestive poses, etc.

    They make the pact when young & silly, but as they grow old and carry it out it becomes a much more serious & momentous thing. About keeping promises & friendship.

    Average CEO pay has gone up about 60% since 2009.

    Who's pay is contributing to inflation?

    Quick Tulip update: Didn’t see her for a few days and started to worry since she getting up in years for an ant. Just spotted her in the lower chamber doing some patrolling around. She’s at least two years old. Still full of life.

    So I'm keeping a list of things that are about to be gone or severely restricted (in the next 10 years) due to climate change, so far the list has been growing:

    • Avocadoes
    • Potatoes
    • Olive Oil
    • Cocoa / Chocolate
    • Tomatoes
    • Salmon and pretty much all things from the ocean.

    Homo naledi is the most interesting new human like primate. They are from South Africa, little people. walked upright, but primates walking upright goes way back.

    They had hands just like modern humans but longish arms and powerful shoulders ... so they could probably zip up a tree.

    They have small brains half modern size. This has made people astonished that they may have had fire.

    I'm glad I'll never meet one, a smart little firebug with powerful arms sounds terrifying. 1/

    Three years ago she murdered her sister. Her sister thought they would be queens together but Penta had her own ideas. She has only five legs and nearly 2000 daughters who I manage with a modified vacuum cleaner (it’s an automatic asperator.) I’m almost done moving them into their new nest. It’s been so much work. I’ve only killed four ants so far. Please don’t tell Penta. She is not patient with incompetence.

    In other "news" Tucker Carlson went on "The Rogan Experience" and denied that evolution by means of natural selection explained the diversity & history of living things on earth.

    Said there was "no evidence" humans could have evolved "from a single cell organism"

    It's impossible to know if he's just saying this for attention.

    I've always said science would be next. Tucker is the vanguard of the far right. Give it five years and you'll have congress members wanting this in your schools.
