It always makes me smile when I can spot Tulip, the median carpenter ant before I go off to work. She wasn’t up to anything remarkable today. Just ant stuff.

Tulip rests on a rock back legs elevated thorax low in the white sand.
Tulip in comparison to three of her sisters: one is much larger than her, one smaller.

I’m doing an assembly with the girls today and the ones being left home have just discovered I’ve separated them from their queen and they are NOT happy. Please forgive me little ants, this is for education and will mean so much to the future of ant-human relationships! #namedAnts #tulip #tuliptheant #carpenterAnts

Quick Tulip update: Didn’t see her for a few days and started to worry since she getting up in years for an ant. Just spotted her in the lower chamber doing some patrolling around. She’s at least two years old. Still full of life.

Close up of Tulip, a very good looking ant: she has a wide head and six sturdy black legs.
