My friend was analyzing meter of an interesting phrase they came up with ("imminently deducible") last night and I fell a little more in love. They concluded it was something like anapestic with a bunch of spondees, which I opposed due to disliking spondees on principle (they're just two long feet you put in when nothing else fits! also, "imminently" is trochaic in my opinion). What do you think?

It would be great if it could become a virtually universal social media eventually, but for its quirks to be understood by everyone, some critical mass of first adopters must understand the fediverse. So I think the fediverse will self-select for technically knowledgeable people at first before eventually becoming accessible to the public, not by any fault of its own but by virtue of having been around long enough and grown enough of a community to attract the average person from traditional social media.

I also think there are different instances and communities for people with different priorities. People interested in the ideas behind the fediverse can congregate on lemmy.ml (because that's where Lemmy's developers are, right?) and in FLOSS communities, etc., while people looking for a social network that won't use them for profit can flock to region-specific instances, etc.

Probably not. In calculus class, our teacher showed us a video showing a dog finding the quickest path to catch a ball using the trajectory of the ball to predict where the ball would land and its own knowledge of its swimming versus running speeds to predict the best place at which to enter the water the ball would land in. The human had thrown the projectile into a river, and the dog started running as soon as the human released the ball. The video was taken from above, and it had been edited to show the audience the calculus required to find the optimal path. The dog followed this path exactly.

But dogs aren't good at math. I don't know how you would get a dog to attempt an algebra problem, but they probably couldn't do it. The calculation required to throw a ball accurately or decide when to cross into the river is probably more instinctual.

Good problem-solvers, but not good at math bc they can't show their work or write a proof or explain how they got to the result beyond "I don't know, it just feels right".

Isn't math defined as the logical steps to get from axioms to theorems, followed by the application of theorems to specific problems? Dogs don't do that, they just guess (and often guess correctly).

For some people, kink is about power exchange and roleplay, not always about sex. Kink is another type of activity and attraction (like, there's friendship, romance, sexual partnership, and kink). Just like how romantic and sexual attraction often go together but you can separate them out sometimes (friends with benefits), I find that sexual and kinky activity often but not always go together.

For example, you could be friends with benefits except the benefits deal with your mind (power exchange, playing around) and not so much your sexual organs. That could be friendship, kink, and not sex.
