At some point they are going to have ad channels with content breaks.

The whole Threshold series is great, especially the audiobook versions. Ray Porter narrates a lot of sci-fi audiobooks, and he's always great.

Would his Secret Service detail even let him carry in the first place? I feel like that's a no-no.

The research is already done. All they need to do is call a local university agriculture extension where they are considering a project.

Republicans Flock to Trump’s Trial, Risking Control of the House Floor ( www.nytimes.com )

"The House was in session at the Capitol on Thursday, but thanks to the latest procession of Republicans reporting for duty in front of a Manhattan criminal courthouse to show support for former President Donald J. Trump at his trial, the party risked ceding its control of the floor,” the New York Times reports....

Throwing a lot of shade there when (I hope) you goofed and really meant legislative branch. I agree with your POV, but be accurate, if you're taking the road you're taking.

I'm more productive than anyone else on my team, and would argue more productive than the majority of people in my whole department. I use a single 28" monitor.

I don’t work any more productively with more screens. The distraction outweighs the benefits for me.

Ad tech IS the tracking, so if you're not blocking ads, you're not actually refusing said tracking. I think you might be conflating cookies with being tracking (they are), but that's only a part of it.

The only time I ever fell for a "lifetime" software purchase was back when Trillian (the IM client) was popular. That lasted less than 5 years. Then they released "Astas", which was just a UI refresh, but they treated it like it was a whole new company and product. "Lifetime" is always a scam.

I just listened to the Criminal podcast on that, recently. Fascinating cultural moment.

I just went in and manually edited my display name to my previous asshole of a boss. Two can play this game. If they want to get rid of anonymous content, then let them deal with poisoned content.

Team Blind is decent, at least in the tech sector.

His rates doubling wouldn't be considered damages?

Doeyour post comments constitute "personal data" though?

I didn’t know that either but I’d also never divulge that info on an inbound phone call.

Nah, they can't abort this process at this point, they need to see it to full term.

Selective Service is "the draft". It's where the country can force you into military service.

I got a callback from one of the many job application (finally), had to complete a task (I didn't even get started), and I think that the requirements were pretty unreasonable?

It was an internship for a full-stack developer role. I was given two days - today is the final day, and I did not even start with the project as I was too stressed to complete the task, worrying about designing and modelling the database part, and because I have a really vague idea about system design. The skill requirements...

Lol, asking for literally months of work as a job interview. GTFO with that.

That's not always a choice, without hurdles. I have a truck with it, but I would have no idea how to disable it short of cutting the antenna wire for it.

"Sharing" is a funny way to word a headline. They are selling it, for a profit, because it's legal. It's immoral and shady as hell, but "prevent it or expect it" applies here.

Schiff says he hopes Intelligence Community ‘will dumb down’ briefings for Trump ( thehill.com )

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said the U.S. Intelligence Community should “dumb down” briefings for former President Trump when he receives classified information as the eventual GOP nominee, voicing concerns about whether Trump could share the information....

Trump is disqualified from Illinois ballot, judge rules ( www.reuters.com )

An Illinois state judge on Wednesday barred Donald Trump from appearing on the Illinois' Republican presidential primary ballot because of his role in the attack at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, but she delayed her ruling from taking effect in light of an expected appeal by the former U.S president.

plz1 ,

This doesn't even matter. Unless he's barred from the general election ballot, he's already won the GOP primaries. Haley just won't cave until she's forced to.

FTA, a decision is expected at the end of June (end of their term for the year, I think).

That means if they reject the claim of immunity, trials can restart after that. And with delays, that lines up a wonderful October Surprise (TM), of course. I hate this system so much.

At least he's not immune from any of the state crimes... /s

I get Copilot to bail on conversations so often like your example that I'm only using it for help with programming/code snippets at this point. The moment you question accuracy, bam, chat's over.

I asked if there was a Copilot extension for VS Code, and it said yup, talked about how to install it, and even configure it. That was completely fabricated, and as soon as I asked for more detail to prove it was real, chat's over.

upside down train ( media.cnn.com )

The Wuppertaler Schwebebahn (English: Wuppertal Suspension Railway) is a suspension railway in Wuppertal, Germany. The line was originally called the German: Einschienige Hängebahn System Eugen Langen (English: Eugen Langen Monorail Overhead Conveyor System) named for its inventor, Eugen Langen. It is the oldest electric...

I'd imagine the ride would be smoother since they really only need to level between each support, not the entirety of the rails if they'd been laid on the ground.

Do you often hear the ringing of switching power supplies and devices when you are in a quiet space?

I'm curious, how many people are aware of these sounds. I have designed, etched, and built my own switching power supplies along with winding my own transformers. I am aware of the source of the noise. So, does anyone else hear these high frequency sounds regularly?

Coil whine ? Yup. They told me it would go away as I got older and lost range of hearing. Still waiting for that.

Oh I’m well aware. My former company just sold my department to an outsource company at the same time they laid off. We are all just numbers.

YSK: Indeed and other job sites are saturated with scams

For the past two years, legitimate job postings on Indeed and Glassdoor have been replaced by scams. If you're tricked, the scammers aren't satisfied with your contact info in your CV, they reach out via email to request that you connect on an encrypted messenger app where they can privately scam you out of thousands in pre-hire...

Any “job” that requires you to pay anything up front is a scam. Period.

I really hate this "quietly deleting" / "quietly removing" trend in news headlines. Politico's don't "publicly announce" things they want to stop talking about, so it's always going to be "quietly". It's not like their teams have to go into some secret room/SCIFF to remove a paragraph of text on a web page...
