I don't know why in sci-fi or other fiction, I love it when they use Terra. Not sure why I find that more believable.

Just like how the Supreme Court justices wouldn't take away Roe V Wade .....

Mom Driven Insane by Blippi Screams ‘So Much to Learn About, Makes You Wanna Shout. Shoot Me!’ ( lemmy.world )

In what can only be described as a desperate cry for help, local mother of two, Karen Torrance, has reached the breaking point after enduring her 32nd consecutive Blippi video. Blippi, the beloved children’s YouTube sensation and his stupid orange and blue beret, has all but broken parents throughout the world....

lobut ,

I've watched so much Blippi after taking care of my nephews. It made me appreciate the Wiggles afterwards.

lobut ,

I wonder how his listeners can keep hearing this same message for years?

lobut ,

I can imagine it's just really hot in there with the computers and monitors going.

I remember first going through MGS2. Up until Raiden I thought this was going to be the best gaming experience ever. Still liked it, but the story was just weird looking back on it.

I'm going to give a weird answer, but one of my favourite gaming experiences on the PS2 was Katamari Damacy. I was in Uni and we had some friends that didn't play games but LOVED Katamari and we would take turns on that.

Don't be embarrassed that you thought better of someone. That's their failure, not yours.

lobut , (edited )

Yeah, I think the only take away is that they're not Trump sycophants like Aileen Cannon.

It's not quite the needed win, but it's still something :/

I don't understand what this is trying to say. The cybertruck is a disaster and I think that social distancing was for COVID right?

Also, I think there's something called the Flynn Effect and it's that in general kids are getting smarter with each generation (I think?).

New “Recall” feature in Windows 11 is a privacy nightmare ( www.theverge.com )

The new “Recall” feature really does look good on paper, but the taking in mind that it catalogues almost everything you do on your computer, it could turn out to be a privacy nightmare. “logging things you do in apps, tracking communications in live meetings, remembering all websites you’ve visited for research, and...

I mean ... I saw that for some reason when I logged into Windows 11 yesterday it had the NBA score in the bottom left. Who the hell asked if I wanted that?

Went back to my Linux/Mint box as I rarely use my windows one but that pissed me right off.

Devout Christian Mike Johnson shows up to hush money trial to defend a guy accused of cheating on his wife with a porn star ( www.vanityfair.com )

House Speaker Mike Johnson describes himself as a Christian before anything else. He has said his “faith informs everything I do.” He has told people curious about his views to “pick up a Bible.” His wife reportedly runs a counseling service whose operating agreement, which he himself notarized, states, “We...

lobut ,

I was gonna say this was on par for the modern Christianity as we know it. I don't think death threats are very Christian either but it seems that's been par for the course now.

lobut ,

It's weird because most hate it. I remember when Michael Moore's movie came out and even those in red states were gathering together to say that if we let this go on then we're complicit!

Then I think I remember Fox News and the right-wing going on a blitz. "Death Panels" and shit

https://youtu.be/JPa19PgTxZc?si=_M9f1k4noEEr0XJN

Look at this disinformation campaign. This is what pisses me off about this "both sides" bullshit. Also, whenever any comedian jerks themselves off about speaking the truth and being philosophers going off on woke when they shut their mouths about shit like this.

lobut ,

I'm too tired to look it up, but I remember someone saying that resilience or grit was one of the best indicators of success. Someone replied that actually the best indicator of success is if you came from wealth.

lobut , (edited )

Weren't Republicans crying about HIPAA (fixed spelling, thanks!) and shit earlier when asked if they got vaccinations? You guys actually care about sensitive patient health data or what's up?

lobut ,

You see. I know the atheist movement ran high on Reddit and flamed out.

I'm typically the guy that's very live and let live and if you asked me if there's any danger to believing in a God I'd just say, "you do you".

However, we get people that are in control or are being controlled that are making decisions that affect everyone based on this stuff. Stem cell research, abortions, sex work, gay rights, porn ID, climate change, evolution ... like I just don't know what to think.

lobut ,

I don't see myself as too much of a loner or anything but I had a friend call me out of the blue during lunch and I just kept thinking.

Why oh why are you not texting me?

I'm horrible.

lobut ,

The accounts are so important that you're willing to lose sales in that many countries?!

First time watching Lemmino and I'm an instant subscriber now, it was a great video. Not gonna lie the bait at the end was really enticing and I hope that this does get solved soon!

I grew a beard after I got food poisoning and the flu back-to-back. I couldn't be arsed to shave.

I did try shaving years later but I hated nicking my chin with a razor and doing it every day was a pain.

Remember that these guys are the ones that tout freedom and free market and tell you that "woke" is the main problem in life.

The Skin I Live In, Antonio Banderas, he's a surgeon and it seems there's a woman trapped in his house?

Also, basically any Haneke movie, Funny Game, Benny's Video, L'Amour.

lobut ,

Honestly, I didn't see it coming and I was really impressed by the end. I didn't know if I enjoyed the movie until two weeks later. I think it threw me in for a loop for a while where I just kept thinking about it (I think that's what good art does).

I settled on it being a great movie and that I wanted to talk to someone about, but I couldn't recommend (due to the subject matter and my lack of being able to provide a good description) :P

I think Jimmy Carr punches down. I think it's okay to punch down as long as it implicitly understands that it's wrong. I think that's why some Frankie Boyle jokes (who used to write for Jimmy) land as well as they do.

Conservative comedy can sometimes be good? The thing is that it needs to thread a better needle.

I remember listening to an NPR podcast and it was talking about wasting money in science. There was that "shrimp fight club" and millions being spent on it. Turns out the money was for a science lab and for students wages and just a bit of money went on the shrimp experiment. Didn't stop the headlines though. When the scientist went to explain the point to the politicians. They said that the shrimp shells were so resilient and lightweight and studying it could yield military benefits. The politician said that they would only care about that specific use case. The scientist had to explain you don't get one without the other.

I was about to check their history but just looking at the name is a dead giveaway.

Microsoft understands that it's not exactly the top choice for a lot of us users right? We use it because of whatever-reason and annoyances like this lead to attrition. I literally only use it to play Helldivers 2 right now.

lobut ,

I like guns too. I shot them at a range and I'm pretty good. It's like a video game where you make you're breathing right and all that jazz.

If someone asked me if I wanted to fire guns but also children were to die in schools due to unfettered gun access thanks to those rules. I'd say, thanks but no thanks.

Saw a random YouTuber I thought I liked do a livestream. He usually does reactionary or random updates content.

I go in and he's ragging on Biden and I see people doing SuperChats with pro-Trump messages and just casual racism. Apparently, Biden's PR person probably should have been white according to these guys. I ducked out, was quite kinda sad.

lobut ,

Only he, oh wait I mean this "hypothetical man" can save women from being sluts.

lobut ,

Elon Musk is backing her lawsuit? what the hell.

I don't understand what she wants out of this. She's the one making public statements and Disney let it go on longer than it should have.

lobut ,

You guys are literally killing the [insert industry here]!! /s

lobut ,

“People are attacked all the time in the media, online media, social media, but it is rare that that actually has a meaningful negative impact on their life,” said Musk.

F this guy.

To supplement this comment, I googled things:

Using the phrase "begs the question" to mean "raises the question" is a common misuse of the term. In academic and professional writing, "begs the question" actually refers to a logical fallacy where a statement assumes the truth of the conclusion it is attempting to prove. To avoid confusion, it's best to use "raises the question" when you want to indicate that something prompts or suggests a question.

An example:

Vintage furniture is better than new furniture because it’s usually made from real wood.

This statement relies on the assumption that real wood is the superior material for furniture. However, nothing in this claim explains why that’s the case, so it begs the question, “What makes real wood better than other materials?”

I don't understand the Mike Tyson reference though.

lobut ,

omg, why I'd go to Mike Tyson? this is a facepalm moment

I, for some reason, thought that Mike Tyson said something about this and was googling that a bit earlier.

lobut ,

They did it on CNN. I remember some Republican prick saying, "you know why we're not racist? Obama."

It just so happened that the racists got outvoted. Their party really seized upon being racists though.
