50 billionaire families have spent $600 million+ on the 2024 elections, which is .06% of their total wealth.

The equivalent donation for an avg household would be ~$100.

This means 50 billionaires have the political-spending capacity of 6 million American families.

Oligarchy.

I would venture to say that there are enough
fossil fools in those 50 billionaire families
to call it, legitimately, an oilagarchy
especially with Trmp's recent offer
to some of those very same fossil fools.

Last I heard, the estimate of upkeep on solar was about 5% of the cost of fuel for the same amount of power but that was a couple of years ago. Then again, again years ago, I saw a BU prospective business which was automating solar panel cleaning and have seen self-cleaning surfaces for solar panels ideas since.

The parliament of Denmark today signed a law which ads USD 14 billion to the Danish defence budget, in order to finance a an armored brigade with 6000 soldiers, tanks and armored vehicles. As part of the deal, young women will now be force conscripted into the military.

You could see it in our politicians’ faces, they are not keen on doing this, but this is the reality of living 300 km from Russia.

This is the real price of cheap Russian gas.

Remember: Most billionaires are not “self-made.” They’re made via a combination of inherited wealth, government subsidies, tax loopholes, labor exploitation, and policy failures. Can we stop perpetuating a myth that blames wealth inequality on the choices of everyday Americans?

@Strandjunker In the 1980s, I had a conversation with a law student doing work on abortion rights at Harvard Law. I suggested that anti-abortion people would end up by having every miscarriage investigated as a possible homicide & that women should sue the authorities who refused them abortions (& their own fetuses) for involuntary servitude.

She didn't like either idea.

Mentioned practical civil defense actions at a recent local XR strategy meeting but I don't know if they'll pick up on the idea.

I'd feel a lot better if XR, Fridays for the Future, et cetera were doing real emergency climate prep besides their political stuff.
