God I'm so glad I live in California. We're not perfect by any means but:

I used to live about 2 BLOCKS from a refinery and never had that experience. The one time there was even a vague issue that "might" have impacted health the FD came by and were like "GTFO were evacuating the area" and I went home that night to a safe and mot-covered-in-bullshit home.

As someone who has learned bits of multiple languages I'll push back on this: contractions are an apostrophes main purpose in both English and every other language, it's the possessive use that's weird. (I should be clear that I'm counting languages that use an apostrophe to denote a gutteral sound in the middle of a word as being basically a contraction, as that's generally what they get kinda pronounced as in English)

I bet if you Google it then it's gonna turn out the possessive is an ancient ass contraction

While my sentence could be worded more clearly, that's a pretty bad reading of what I said.

My car is valued by KBB at ~6k in it's current state.

That current state includes a battery that was replaced under warranty 6 months ago, and is thus basically a brand-new battery, 9 years left on its warranty and everything.

So if something goes wrong with the battery and it isn't directly your fault: it gets replaced for free. The only 6k being spent is the original 6k on the car as a whole

Most people find bad endings to retroactively taint the experience leading up to it.

If you don't, cool for you, but it should be easy to see why most people end up less excited and positive about a work if it ends poorly

From there it should also be easy to see why someone might do the math and judge something with a poor ending will end up being a net negative despite the positive they experience along the way.

Season 1 absolutely has a relation, and impact, on Season 8. You can't have one without the other, unlike your bowling comparison, so Season 1 can and is damaged by the existence of Season 8.

This is such a weird reply. It really feels like you're claiming that people pointing out that abusing mod powers (objectively a thing being done) are somehow in the wrong for doing so just because the people abusing the power are those who coded the site it's being done on.

The choices users have to deal with an issue like this are to block (per-user, so they have to discuss it), defederation (a big decision, so discussion), or leaving entirely (in which case theyd want others to come with, so discussion). That is unless shaming the people doing it works, but they've kinda shown they don't care as this is far from the first time this has come up.

How is it at all embarrassing for the users of a forum to discuss on said forum one of their few methods of recourse to people with power on that forum abusing it?
