Can I refuse MS Authenticator?

So my company decided to migrate office suite and email etc to Microsoft365. Whatever. But for 2FA login they decided to disable the option to choose "any authenticator" and force Microsoft Authenticator on the (private) phones of both employees and volunteers. Is there any valid reason why they would do this, like it's...

Might be interpreting your comment wrong, but it is compatible with competitors. You don't need to use Authenticator as your 2FA for a personal Microsoft account, and you can use Authenticator in place of any other TOTP app. It's OP's IT department that have chosen to disable the option to use other apps.

ProPublica didn't post that to Lemmy, they publish to their own site. Someone else (PirateJesus) copy-pasted their article and posted it here.

It's on BeeHaw from my perspective at least

I absolutely misinterpreted the title. He quite literally murdered his opponent. Before reading the article, I assumed it meant like, he murdered him at the polls, ya know, politically destroyed. I thought "With a name like Low Tax on the ballot, I guess he won by a landslide or something." Nope, he actually killed a guy.

I came to this thread to complain about a road I know that's exactly like this, but I just checked it out on Google Maps to make sure I'm complaining with proper details. and it looks like they actually added traffic signals sometime in the past few months!

Technically they haven't changed the terms, they were very up-front about the requirement for a PSN account. There's been a warning on the Steam page this whole time and it even tells you it's required the first time you open the game. The problem is that they didn't actually follow through on making it a real requirement for 3 months.

Really looking forward to the Project: Hail Mary movie adaption because of your first point. Can't wait to see the little guy

It's not a good ratio, but assuming they managed to fill the three developer positions they were intending to when this interview was given last year and no one has left since then, that's 5 full time employees to 5 board members. I can't find more up-to-date numbers on the employee count unfortunately.

Non Credible Defense is a military satire/shitposting sub. It's relevant, it's just the opposite of the usual shitposty takes here.

atocci ,
@atocci@kbin.social avatar

Right, but a well thought out take like that here is like going to r/NoSleep and commenting how someone's scary story couldn't have actually happened because skinwalkers aren't real.

An NCD take would be of course Australia wants to project power like America, you can never have too much defense budget and anything else is a waste of money

But more important than that, it killed in a funny "all comedy is derived from fear" sort of way.

@BiggestBulb I thought toots was just a joke name, do people really call them toots and not posts?

China is building a railgun that can hurl crewed spacecraft into orbit ( newatlas.com )

Rockets being passé, China is working on using an electromagnetic railgun to launch crewed spacecraft the size of a Boeing 737, weighing 50 tonnes, into orbit. This remarkably ambitious project is even more ambitious than it seems at first glance.

atocci , (edited )
@atocci@kbin.social avatar

While railguns are known for rapidly accelerating projectiles to hypersonic speeds over the short length of a gun barrel, there's no limit on how slowly they can accelerate something or how long the "rail" part of the railgun can be. Accelerating "slowly" over a long distance is totally possible!

I never used these because of the price. What did they do? Or maybe more to the point, what were they supposed to do?

atocci ,
@atocci@kbin.social avatar

Why not? They're convenient and don't require the use of a terminal

@ayo I believe kbin's magazines function exactly like this, where each one has it's own separate timeline of microblog posts. Posts can be made directly to a magazine from kbin or collected from elsewhere in the fediverse based on a list of hashtags the magazine's moderator curates.

For example, I found this post in the "fediverse" magazine here

My monitor is only 1440p, so it's just what i need. I ordered the Founders Edition card from Best Buy on a whim after I stumbled across it at launch time by coincidence. I'd been mulling over the idea of getting a prebuilt PC to replace my laptop for a few weeks at that point and was on the lookout for sales on ones with a 4070. Guess I'll be building my own instead now.

@JWBananas @Rentlar @SilentStorms sooo... the follow-up had a very specific point. Many people were getting a residue after trying powder detergent, and I wanted to help with that.

My main issue with detergent pods isn't so much that they're wasteful, per se, but that they cost a lot more for, potentially, worse results.

Many dozens of people continue to tell me that trying powder detergent both saved money and made their dishwasher work better. I stand by that.

I'm probably a bit late to reply, but... He was @ mentioned in the body of the original post, which Mastodon would have notified him of because mas.to is federating. Opening the notification would bring him to this thread on Mastodon, where everything would appear as it normally does when viewing a thread on Mastodon. From there, you can hold a conversation as normal with notifications and all. Unless you were looking at instance URLs, you probably wouldn't even notice the user you're replying to isn't on Mastodon themselves.

Beauty of federation! It (mostly) just works!
