@Nonilex We are long past the stage where any level of intervention can solve these problems. Why do people drink/use drugs? Because their life is hot garbage and they (justifiably) can't cope.

Fix THAT, and drug use declines rapidly. But no, that would take money and 'giving' people things.

    @GottaLaff NFL. Thank God. With Lake running, and running her whiny mouth about election “validity,” I’ve had some concerns about AZ in November.

    Not that her kind can’t still influence by babbling their randomly string together adjectives, but procedures upheld goes a ways towards ensuring things aren’t quiiiiiiite as corrupt as the RNC and far right would like.

    Doesn’t eliminate lone actors and small groups, but it’s something.

    @GottaLaff NFL My takeaway here is that he has values that (generally) align with the avg person (juror) and was led astray over a period of time, finally realized the trouble he was in, and took the hit for the same in furtherance of protecting family.

    Not an example of a moral compass, ofc, but everyone has lost sight of the goal now and then. Just not to that extent.

    He came clean, and (importantly, I think) paid back the $.

    That should hit home for many Americans.

    @GottaLaff In fairness, he's not strictly wrong that writing surplus lines doesn't require the same sort of state licensure, nor imply the same sort of state regulation.

    Couple of caveats, though. It doesn't mean no regs apply, or that they don't need reserves. Also does not mean court rules don't apply, necessarily.

    @GottaLaff As a former resident of Indiana, I can say with certainty that there is not a single non-citizen in the state who has a choice about the matter.

    If anyone is voting illegally in that state, it’s the folks who “forgot” to update their reg when they moved 100 yards down the street and genuinely screwed up.

    Not exactly a Mecca for non-citizens or undocumented folks, for sure.

    Some Democrats try to talk about immigration and appeal to both those who see immigration as a negative and those who see it as a positive and NOT articulate a vision for how it ought to work.

    They talk "immigration crisis" in a vague way meant to stand in for both a (fake false racist) perception that there is an "invasion" AND a system disorganized and cruel.

    Because they don't articulate a vision the bigotry gets no push back. Which is what I want from their leadership MOST on this issue.

    @GottaLaff I actually had to go look up who Marianne Williamson was. Some of her positions are appealing to me, but…. We have an incumbent who can win, this is not a year we should risk diverting even primary votes.

    The other guy in the primary came out of nowhere and seems to have (rightly) angered the few folks who know who he is by throwing his hat in.

    Do we need to drag the party further left? You bet. But not at cost of dem infighting that could give us four more years of TFG.

    There is an open textbook project with a surprising variety of subjects and depth/breadth but I don’t know how often those texts are actually used in the real world. https://open.umn.edu/opentextbooks
