Me too. the local police even stopped handcuffing me behind my back because I'd just step over so my hands were in front again.

Instructions unclear. Anyone know how to clean a popcorn ceiling?

The handcuff thing. Being on a first name basis with the local cops is pretty common in a small town like where I lived for a bit when I was an angry teen.

Some do, some don't. If you don't find one right away you gotta keep trying and you'll find one eventually.

I'm no earth doctor, but wouldn't it be the other way around? Continental drift would affect the lifeforms abilities to survive and adapt, and that in turn would affect the continents surface features, but not the drifting itself?

Sounds about right. I had a 33" floor model tv and it weighed something like 160 pounds. I had my apartment broken into around 1990 and they stole pretty much all the electronics except the tv.

Squirrels. Cute as hell in the wild, not so much in my attic. They are tiny little destructive machines.

Baby batter, glue, and a little bit of microplastics. Just add eggs and bake for 9 months.

First computer, Tandy Coco 2 (TRS-80) in 1988 or 89.

First phone (other than a landline) was a Motorola bag phone around 1996(?)

Keurig's new K-Rounds coffee pods are plastic-free and could finally make single-serve coffee-making sustainable ( www.techradar.com )

This is quite exciting in that it removes plastic waste. I see no reason why different companies can't make different shape ones to maintain their lock-in. I expect a knock-off market to pop-up, but that exists with plastic pods too. It's a step in the right direction at least.

I used to love my coffee maker (One of the ones with the thermos built in as the carafe) but my daughter wanted a Keurig. I was hesitant at first but I really like them now that I'm used to it.

We use reusable pods so making coffee is as cheap as before, and there's little wasted coffee that sat too long. If I want coffee I get one without worrying if my daughter might want one later, and visa versa. It's always fresh and never has to sit. And since we both don't really have regular schedules this way makes it easier than planning how much to make. It also works just as well if one of us wants tea or hot chocolate instead.

If you are on a fixed schedule and always drink the exact same amount of coffee then it's not as big of a deal though. The only real downside is if you have friends over then sometimes being able to brew a pot is less of a hassle than individually making multiple cups at the same time, but in our case that doesn't happen often enough to keep the old coffee maker out.

“No Mr Netanyahu, it is not antisemitic or pro-Hamas to point out that, in a little over six months, your extremist government has killed over 34,000 Palestinians and wounded more than 78,000, 70% of whom are women and children,”

There are even people here on lemmy trying to push that Yahoo's bullshit narrative that the demonstrations are pro hamas. Thankfully most of lemmy can see through the crap and downvote the hell out of them.

In grade 2 I burnt down a shed causing $2000 damage in the 1970's. (Around $10,000 in todays money)

I was playing in the shed and decided I wanted to build a fireplace... out of wood. (In my defense it was a type of laminate, so I didn't know it was wood at the time.)

I've always put their meds into some wet cat food, that has usually gone over well in my case. I've got 4 rescue cats going in on Monday to get done and another three next month, hopefully these ones all handle things smoothly as well.

If it's not coming from the drip pan, chances are it's compressor oil. You probably will not want to run it until you can fix the leak and replace the oil that's leaked out. running it without oil will kill it.

Your two choices would be to call a repair person, or to look up how (and if) you can seal the leak and change the oil yourself.

We had bikes before cars, that wasn't the problem. People wanted the luxury of cars. You could go faster in heated comfort along with your entire family and cargo for hundreds of miles with next to no effort in virtually any kind of weather, something bikes still can not do.

Even if we had modern tech with bikes 200 years ago the rise of cars was inevitable due to their convenience and low cost at the time. Combine that with the push of the car industry and that most people were unaware of the true cost of the damage cars were causing, and bikes never stood a chance. Even now, bikes simply can't replace cars for everyone but at least they can make a dent in the problems that got us here.

A few times, but for context I grew up in a sort of biker/trucker social circle and I tend to speak my mind sometimes more than maybe I should. I do try to be a good person though and don't try to get in anyone's face unless they deserve it.

I guess the last time was a few years back having a smoke outside a bar. Some guy was aggressively hitting on my unofficial daughter (ex girlfriends kid) which was fine in itself until he started getting grabby with her so I pinned him against a wall and threatened to put him out of my misery. He calmed down fairly quickly after that and left. I'm no badass or anything, I just get irrationally angry when people try pushing things too far.

My kids are grown now so my comment probably isn't all that relevant anymore, but I don't think there should be a set age to give your kid a smart phone. Different kids mature and learn at different ages, even ones from the same household.

For my kids, I got them their first phones in their early teens but those phones were somewhat restricted so that we could still communicate easily but we knew they couldn't get into too much trouble with them. As time progressed the restrictions slowly lifted as we knew we could trust them more to not get into trouble with them.

I've always believed it's not a parents duty to protect their child from the world as much as it is to prepare them for it. Of course kids are going to make stupid decisions if you let them go too far (we all have) so I think it's more about slowly easing them into things and helping them make the right decisions the best we can.

I agree, I used to work for a company that made mobile homes in a an assembly line fashion. Two of us could cut and assemble all of the interior and exterior walls in under two days for an 80 foot home. It's all the other stuff that took time and a lot more people to piece together.

I've watched the first season (8 episodes) and I think it's pretty good. I personally think the first episode was a little slow getting into things. If you don't know anything about Fallout it may be a bit confusing at first because they don't really explain much of the Fallout lore or how things work in that world, but it mostly all comes together by the end of the season.

Apparently they've already greenlit a second season so that's awesome, I'm just sad we'll have to wait until probably next year to see it.

Mid-Eighties Plymouth Voyager minivan. Put the pedal to the metal, and the damned thing would hardly accelerate, the motor just got louder. Probably would have been quicker if I rolled the window down and flapped my arms. And if you look at one spot too long, that part would break.

Things like this are why I think the whole Facebook "encrypted messaging" thing is just a scam to try and look like they respect your privacy. It doesn't matter if you have the best encryption out there if the doors are wide open for them on either end and they're keylogging everything you do.

I feel for him, that's gotta be tough. I took in 10 strays, I can't even imagine having nearly three hundred of them.

I wonder why he didn't do something earlier? I know getting them fixed is expensive (it's going to be around $200 each for the 10 I have) but neither is 28kg a day for food. At least in my case I can keep the girls separated in the house as we slowly afford to get them done.

Rocketpoweredgorilla ,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

There's a few places Here in Canada that can do them fairly cheap, but nowhere close to where I live, and they usually have a limit of one cat per year.

Rocketpoweredgorilla ,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

Ya, looked into a while back when I was still trying to make friends with these strays... the best deal I can find in my area is $150 plus tax for males, and $210 plus tax for females.

I don't have much coin to spare but there's just no way I was leaving those strays to fend for themselves and make things worse, so I'm squirreling money away to get them done in batches. My neighbor is chipping in $200 so that'll help too.

Bonus is now the neighbors are calling me the cat whisperer because the strays all come running when I'm around lol
