My da loves traveling south specifically for Waffle House and Buckees! We don't have then in the north/midwest, so he's always excited to revisit them.

I'd sew stuffed animals donate them to hospitals. I would also put on scavenger hunts for kids to find them around town! It'd be a good activity for kids to do with their siblings, parents, friends, etc.

I would open up a bearded dragon rescue again and possibly turn it into a sanctuary!

I'd learn how to use saws and do woodworking to create fun & interesting furniture! I can already do upholstery, but I'd love to make something from the ground up.

I'd apply for a wildlife rehab permit & help animals.

I'd learn how to code games and put my rusty Blender skills to work!

Gosh.. there's honestly so much I'd like to do.. but I am poor, uninsured, and living paycheck-to-paycheck, so I don't have the time or money to do any of it.

It's nice to think about, though.

I think I'd buy some bugs for my lizard. Maybe some hornworms? They're very good for hydration and basically every reptile that eats bugs goes absolutely crazy for them!

If my buddy is happy, then I'm happy, too.

Here's a picture of my ugly boy, Pączki.

He's a bearded dragon with a genetic defect that caused him to be born without proper scales or spikes.

Because of that, he's a "special needs" animal, so he needs lots of extra care to keep him healthy.

I'd definitely recommend (fully scaled) bearded dragons as pets! Mine is an excellent cuddle-buddy and constantly makes me smile with his dumb goofy antics and curiosity.

SharkEatingBreakfast ,
@SharkEatingBreakfast@sopuli.xyz avatar

You're correct! But he has a genetic defect, so he looks pretty different from a standard healthy dragon.

SharkEatingBreakfast ,
@SharkEatingBreakfast@sopuli.xyz avatar

Herps herps herps!!

Yeah, he's a silkback. Less of a "morph" and more of a genetic nightmare. Definitely would never recommend to anyone who doesn't have a ton of time & money to spend caring for them, + extensive experience with bearded dragon care. A leatherback is the best option of you're looking for a bit of a smoother dragon!

Revy is adorable!! What breed & morph is she?

It is one of the most bittersweet things I've ever read.

Really resonates with me in a huge way. Gets me every time.

How to spot autism in High Masking Autistic Women - What’s behind the mask? -- Autism from the Inside ( youtu.be )

I think that this video has helped me develop some insight on how to spot high-masking autism, not just among women. I found a lot of the material covered in the video relatable even though I am male. Maybe that has something to do with our elevated rejection of established gender roles as a whole. Regardless, I like how...

SharkEatingBreakfast ,
@SharkEatingBreakfast@sopuli.xyz avatar

Damn, you're right. We wouldn't want to humanize people with autism, now would we?

I only drink a couple times per year. I'm typically pretty introverted and quiet, but once I've had alcohol, people keep telling me that I'm so friendly and fun and how they'd like to have some drinks with me again.

Dangerous.

SharkEatingBreakfast ,
@SharkEatingBreakfast@sopuli.xyz avatar

Mine has a history of un-fun alcoholism, as well. Apparently it was used to self-medicate our other family history of depression. 🎉

I'd drink more if I had folks to go out with, but I've cut off a lotta people in the last few years.

It seems that social pressure to drink kind of doesn't go away as you age, huh?

SharkEatingBreakfast ,
@SharkEatingBreakfast@sopuli.xyz avatar

I've had people bring up my completely legal, never-abused, responsibly used, doctor-prescribed medication out of "concern", while my then-partner would down a couple 40s before noon and no one would fucking bat an eye.

Shit's fucked. Alcoholism is so normalized and socially accepted that folks just treat it like a fun quirk.

I've learned to be okay with alone-ness. Not sure that self-destruction is the better route, tbh.

Yeeeah, I found myself single again after a divorce, and I have not even tried to date seriously after seeing what's currently on the market.

Folks out here thinking that dating is a replacement for some much-needed therapy.

No need for self-improvement if you decide that issue lies with everyone else! ♡

I am a sufferer of PTSD from various horrific traumas.

In short: yes. It's weird. You should talk to a professional about it.

If I could take away these debilitating, paralyzing memories and responses my body has formed due to trauma, I would. It prevents me from living a normal life and I suffer from it every day. Even have a note in my charts that lets medical professionals know that my massively elevated heart rate & blood pressure are a trauma/anxiety-response, not an underlying condition.

I guess maybe I'd view your desire as those kids on Tiktok that were mimicking/cosplaying mental illness, autism, & Tourettes syndrome, because they didn't really understand the implications of suffering that a lot of folks who have those things go through.

Again: I'd strongly suggest seeing a professional about this.

He was an exotic shorthair tabby who was given to a shelter because he didn't look f×cked up enough. He was adopted but the owner got a younger, more playful cat, so they put him on Craigslist where I found him.

His shelter name was "Luigi", but when I saw him, I immediately changed it to "Waluigi". It fit him so perfectly.

He snorted when he got excited and looked angry all the time, despite being the friendliest gremlin you'd ever meet. He loved all creatures of different species and nothing frightened him. He made me laugh every single day.

He stayed away completely from people-food, with two notable exceptions: ranch dressing and Taco Bell. I still don't fully trust either, tbh.

I loved him so much. Still miss him every single day. Not sure I'll ever find such a wonderful cat ever again.

Why what?

SharkEatingBreakfast OP ,
@SharkEatingBreakfast@sopuli.xyz avatar

People don't have to give extremely detailed answers (or any answers) about their experience if they don't want to.

I'm just curious about people's thoughts about being single, how they view it, along with if being in a relationship lived up to their expectations compared to being single.

I'm a believer in human connections and sharing experiences. Curiosity drives my need for answers and different points of view.

My orientation also makes it difficult to parse answers based my own point of view, so I posted to get answers from folks who more than likely have had a much different experience.

How much time have you spent being single?

Not long enough.

Did you have a bad experience with a relationship recently or something of that nature?

SharkEatingBreakfast OP ,

What makes you hate people?

SharkEatingBreakfast OP ,

You sound like you're in a lovely relationship!

Yes, relationships are compromise. Your goals will change. But it may be for the better or worse, depending on your partner.

What kind of compromises would you consider healthy vs. unhealthy in a partnership?

Not "some woman" — quite a few women. Lots of women.

"Girls desire a knight in shining armor to come sweep them off their feet!" — my pastor

For the longest time, I struggled because I was told all my life what a "woman's purpose" was, and my desires never lined up with that. Felt like a freak because I never desired romance, sex, or partnership with a man (or anyone else, for that matter). If that was my purpose, was I supposed to will myself to want that for myself? Was I doomed to be alone forever? Was I wrong to want to pursue adventure and things that I wanted?

If my desire ≠ God's desire (which was apparently union with a man at some point in the future), then my desires were.. wrong. Maybe/probably even evil.

So I fucked up my life trying to follow that and fit into that mold. I did things I never wanted to do because it was the "right thing" to do in the eyes of God.

After I escaped, I never really recovered. But.. I discovered a lot about myself.

I did bearded dragon rescues & fostering, I got into cosplay, learned how to sew stuffed animals, got some mental health care, rekindled my love for nature.. all by myself. I learned to love me and not base my worth on what other folks believe I should do or how I should behave. I don't have a partner who gets to dictate my personality. I got to grow on my own.

I'm still coming to terms with.. a lot of things about myself, but now I'm able to grow freely instead of being confined to such a small pot.

Don't let people define who or what you are, or what your purpose is in life. Only you get to do that. It's both terrifying and freeing, but you can do this.

Hey, I had this experience with my former spouse. Turns out they were in jail.

Absolutely do an inmate lookup at local jails / prisons.

The "friends answering emails on his behalf"–thing sounds a bit fishy to me, as well.

If you truly are not able to find him, absolutely file a missing person's report, as you're still legally married.

SharkEatingBreakfast ,
@SharkEatingBreakfast@sopuli.xyz avatar

Whatever the case, I hope you are able to safely resolve things soon. Best of luck to you!
