America is an outlier at the high end. Doesn't change the fact we must assume all cops are bastards. There may be a few good apples who ruin the barrel, but one bad one can absolutely ruin your life on a whim with no comeback on them, so we assume they're bastards to protect ourselves

Well there's a park with some ruins from the Roman occupation, which founded this settlement in 79AD. If you count them, that's 1945 years... if not, apparently there are some churches between 800 and 900 years old that still contains some parts of the original Norman construction, although they have been altered since

The problem with vouchers is they can only be used in limited places. What we need is some kind of universal voucher that can be used anywhere to be exchanged for goods and services. Maybe we could put a monarch's head on one side and some sort of famous scientist on the other or something. It needs a name that says you can use it all around, something that gives and impression of usage both round the corner and round the supermarket. some word that sounds like round maybe

On the other hand, my partner has just come out of hospital (last week) after a foot amputation and I have been very impressed by the level of support available, and the kindness of the people providing it. Maybe we lucked out in terms of postcode lottery or something, but the NHS can be absolutely amazing at times!

No. Quite aside from the certainty the state will accidentally execute innocent people and that the media would push for it for completely inappropriate situations, the job of the state is be to protect it's citizens (hence the army and police being separate) so it is morally indefensible for the state to ever kill any of its citizens
