Both narratives are pushed, but to different crowds. Division is the goal, most certainly not telling a straight story.

It's been around a year since a lot of us quit Reddit, myself included. I'm happy with Lemmy, but I still feel a bit lost online since leaving the old site. Discussion?

Been thinking of making a post like this for some time, apologies if some of this is not completely relevant: this community seems more like it's about Reddit the platform/product than Reddit the social "thing", but I'm sure a lot of people have similar experiences to mine. Maybe on some instances more than others....

Pringles ,

For me, Lemmy is a bit of a mixed bag, but I'm still not returning to being active on reddit. Lemmy is very tech centric and sometimes it's a bit much. While I am interested in tech, I am also interested in art, literature, history and sports. For those subjects there aren't many posts and no, I don't want to create and mod a community. I'm just not that type of person.

I do go on reddit sometimes, when I'm bored with Lemmy or when I want to know more about a specific subject that is non-existent or very niche here. But without user account. All in all it's ok here, and it's growing. It will probably slowly continue to grow, but it's probably too complicated to go mainstream, which is a good thing imo to maintain the quality of the platform, but a bad thing for content diversity.

People Don't Seem To Understand

The guy has got **all **the signs of someone in major mental decline — and it seems to be accelerating. He was half-cracked while he was in office and it's only gotten worse. Like… don't just take my word for it obviously, but if you have bothered to pay attention the signs are there....

If you are for real, then send me the location of a local pizza joint and I'll put in the order and prepay whatever you want (within reason).

God damn, I ate the onion today. In my defence, I thought they had used black highlighters instead of black alcohol ink pens or something like that, like a procurement issue, before I clicked the link and realized I've been bamboozled.

Finally I hear something about this, funnily enough about a meme based on Sputnik whining, which makes it even better. I really was wondering when we would start taking more aggressive cyber security measures, but then I also hoped they were just keeping it silent, as that's what I would do.

Pringles ,

That's what dictionaries are for. I have merriam-webster.com bookmarked for this very reason.

I watched the netflix series on nascar and now I care even less about it. Good job, Netflix

I had to scroll waaay too far down the article to find the name of the person referenced, so for those just wanting to know the name of the immigrant: Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben

You're welcome

I hated olives when I was a kid, then I grew to love it. Same with ginger. Red beets and celery I will never like though.

Pringles ,

The bidetphilia is strong at lemmy, which never ceases to amaze me.

Where do you live? I'm in central Europe and hit the local currency equivalent of 60$ per person per week...

What's a good NAS and server system under CAD$900 (USD$658)?

I am currently using an old laptop (circa 2015) with a 250GB SSD in it, and 4GB of RAM. It runs Fedora 39 Server, and only hosts a Jellyfin instance through Docker right now (though I want to use Nextcloud later too). There is only 15GB of storage left on it, and the CPU is constantly overloaded (due to forced transcoding). I...

Pringles ,

I use an HP microserver gen 8, which I bought second hand (300$) and upgraded with a better CPU (20$ from ebay) and extra ram (80$) and 4 2TB SSD's (100$ per). I installed Windows server on it because I just wanted it to work in a way I'm familiar with, but a colleague of mine installed Synology OS on it. You can use the cd drive bay for the OS disk (with some tweaking). Since you already have the disks, this would fit your budget.

Pringles ,

I see you are confused because this is obviously the famous Spanish singer Federico Mercurio.

But that's not fighting and some people have that sense of humor. Feel bad for them if they are unhappy, but if they are happy, why not be happy for them?

Pringles ,

Can we goad him into it? I don't really want a NATO-Russian war, but it might be the only way to resolve the Russo-Ukraine war to Ukraines advantage.

Pringles ,

I had a friend at university who was in quite a long relationship who kept a list of people she wanted to sleep with in case they broke up. So when they eventually had a break up, she postponed getting back together until she had cleared the list, which took her about two months. I was not on the list, in case you're wondering, nor did I want to.

Pringles ,

This could unironically be his exact thought process.

Pringles ,

A missed opportunity for a movie called Night at the Museum.

Pringles ,

I have you tagged as "Duck expert" based on one of your previous comments or posts, so that checks out.

Pringles ,

Wishful thinking from salon.com with a click-bait title?!? I'm shocked!

One song that recently has been putting me into a very good mood every time I put it on is "Read my mind" by the Killers.

Pringles ,

GuanChadamo, amirite fellas? (⌐■_■)

Pringles ,

Spotting one of these just went on my bucket list. Beautiful creatures.

Fuck, maybe that's why my wife calls me a magpie, but also tells me to shut up sometimes. (I like shiny things)

Pringles ,

A tax on chumps, so it's all good in conservative country

🎶 I was made for solving you baby 🎶

Pretty low is an understatement. It's buried 10 feet deep.

Look, having nuclear — my uncle was a great professor and scientist and engineer, Dr. John Trump at MIT; good genes, very good genes, OK, very smart, the Wharton School of Finance, very good, very smart — you know, if you’re a conservative Republican, if I were a liberal, if, like, OK, if I ran as a liberal Democrat, they would say I'm one of the smartest people anywhere in the world — it’s true! — but when you're a conservative Republican they try — oh, do they do a number — that’s why I always start off: Went to Wharton, was a good student, went there, went there, did this, built a fortune — you know I have to give my like credentials all the time, because we’re a little disadvantaged — but you look at the nuclear deal, the thing that really bothers me — it would have been so easy, and it’s not as important as these lives are — nuclear is so powerful; my uncle explained that to me many, many years ago, the power and that was 35 years ago; he would explain the power of what's going to happen and he was right, who would have thought? — but when you look at what's going on with the four prisoners — now it used to be three, now it’s four — but when it was three and even now, I would have said it's all in the messenger; fellas, and it is fellas because, you know, they don't, they haven’t figured that the women are smarter right now than the men, so, you know, it’s gonna take them about another 150 years — but the Persians are great negotiators, the Iranians are great negotiators, so, and they, they just killed, they just killed us, this is horrible."

Donald "Tiny hands" Trump

Pringles ,

I have never experienced this. Where do you have ads at gas stations?

Pringles ,

Displaying the price you will pay at the counter is my personal benchmark for civilized society. No price tags? You're a medieval backwater. Wrong price tags? Go see a shrink, USA. Correct price tags is the way to go.

Pringles ,

Yes, that e-mail story was ridiculously helpful for Trump in the runup to the election. I think it swayed the vote with several percentage points. Comey decided to go through with reopening the case 11 days before the election (it was closed again 5 days later) because he was so sure Clinton was going to win that it wouldn't have an impact. But the reopening was the biggest boost the Trump campaign could hope for.

Pringles ,

TIL Trump built the supporting wall of my chicken pen.

What did you get up to during the COVID quarantine?

I was in school so when that was put on hold I essentially played video games like it was a job. I remember vividly playing Grand Theft Auto IV in one sitting for the Liberty City Minute achievement and I'm pretty sure I played through Master Chief Collection....

Pringles ,

Just give us a heads up next time you go back to study.

Pringles ,

I had to learn to not go overboard with nutmeg, because it's a very strong flavor that quickly overpowers a dish and when it does, it doesn't taste nice. But in the correct quantity on the right dish, it's brilliant.
