It's not fucking hidden, it's right on the fucking door. Right there, in plain view. Fuck elon but equally fuck idiots who never read their manual or bother to learn fucking anything about a product then claim bullshit like that. Nothing about this is fucking hidden.

The rear doors also have one, that's the only one you could argue is "hidden" as it's in the little storage pocket area

Edit: turns out this is only in the M3, the Y, X, And CT are all designed by absolute idiots, and i joined them by not looking into all models

Nothing about it is hidden, obfuscated, or even in a weird spot. It's literally right on the fucking door handle. There's a lot of reasons to hate elon, and there's a lot of reasons to hate tesla. Let's stick to the legitimate ones instead of making shit up, it just weakens the arguments for the actual issues

Edit: turns out this is only in the M3, the Y, X, And CT are all designed by absolute idiots, and i joined them by not looking into all models

She died of stupid, the release is literally right on the door. It's not hidden, obfuscated, covered, or in any way shape or form difficult to use. Just another idiot that didn't bother learning what all the controls on their new card did.

That being said, even with a manual release they most likely would have died anyway. As once your car is in the water unless you're able to open the door basically instantaneously upon hitting the water you're going to find that the door is impossible to open as the weight of the water will prevent it until such time as the car has filled with water to equalize the pressure. Generally speaking people that survive cars falling into water were able to get the window open, or just break it entirely. The door is almost never the Escape Route as it will not allow itself to be opened due to the difference in pressure

It is, people are just stupid, can't be bothered to read, or even wonder what that lever literally right on the door handle is for.

Edit: turns out this is only in the M3, the Y, X, And CT are all designed by absolute idiots, and i joined them by not looking into all models

LordKitsuna ,

Yes, but it's hidden behind the speaker Grill rather than just right on the door handle all the other models also have some type of covering or otherwise have hidden it it seems only the model 3 decided to put it in a very obvious spot

LordKitsuna ,

Owners manual says it's behind some kinda grill on the x, at least that's what's coming up when I search for it

LordKitsuna ,

They literally risk their lifes and if they do die it's in probably one of the most horrific ways imaginable. I think we can afford 80 an hour for them at the very least

LordKitsuna ,

Your not too dumb to learn linux. I know it seems scary, and a lot of the autistic people that like it will try to convince you it's only for really smart people. But at the end of the day a lot of basic tasks are actually easier on linux. There are some that are harder gaming used to be very difficult for example. Although thanks to valve, and the steam deck for the most part if it's a steam game you can just click play and it's probably going to work.

But as an example of a more basic thing, let's say you want to install an application.

Windows: go to Google, type app name, make sure it's the real actual website officially for that app and not a sponsored result or some other fake website, find the download, pray it's not buried in a bunch of fake download buttons, double click the exe, be careful to make sure it's not installing any toolbars or other packaged bullshit, finally get your application.

Linux: there are some variations (apt dnf pacman) but all of them work the same, for arch it's "pacman -Syu <name of app>" id argue thats WAY easier. If it's not in the main repos chances are high it's in the AUR (arch user repository) so you just yay -Syu <name of app>. It's not harder (imo) just different.

I've actually had a number of pretty average computer user friends let me help them transition to Linux because of the crap Windows is doing lately. And after getting used to the differences they agree that Linux is not actually harder, it's just different, they grew up with windows, they are used to how things are done on windows, so it seemed difficult just because it wasn't the same. But once they got used to it they would actually agree that a lot of things are actually easier.

Now whether or not you want to put in that time to learn those differences, and change how you use your computer, is an entirely different question that you have to ask yourself. But you are not too stupid to learn Linux because realistically it's not any more difficult than Windows is

LordKitsuna ,

Fun fact, in a lot of states even if they slam the brakes if you hit them you are still at fault. You should have been at a safe following distance, and no one knows what that actually means. People will argue that a distance of less than 2 seconds is totally fine and safe because they do it all the time. But a safe following distance means that at your current speed of travel if the car in front of you came to an impossibly instantaneous stop you should have time to notice and stop without hitting them.

At freeway speeds this is a minimum of 4 seconds following distance in dry condition. As in when the back of their car passes a sign that you should be able to start counting Mississippi's and not reach that sign with the front of your car for at least 4 Mississippi's

Now, if they come up from behind you swerve over and then instantly slam on the brakes obviously you're fine(if you have a dash cam) there was nothing you could have done, but if you have just been riding their ass and then they slam on the brakes? You're totally a fault as far as the law in many states is concerned

LordKitsuna ,

This is the answer, and is exactly what happens when you see those accidents involving like 6 Plus cars. Too many people riding way too close together at high speeds and none of them were able to stop in time when the first car suddenly stopped

LordKitsuna ,

What do you mean by bad for 95% of people? 95% of people drive less than 60 miles in a day. Which is something that can easily be recovered overnight with a standard 15 amp outlet not even a special dedicated charger they would have been fine with early electric vehicles much less what we have today

LordKitsuna ,

Unless you take road trips often having a place to charge is literally any random Outlet. You don't need a fancy dedicated fast charger if you drive less than 100 miles in a day. Think about how many hours your car is just sitting at home, it has that many hours to charge it doesn't matter if it charges in 1 and 1/2 hours or 9 hours as long as it gets charged

So even as a renter as long as you have any kind of outdoor outlet or garage you've got somewhere to charge

LordKitsuna ,

You don't even need the clothes dryer circuit, the vast majority of people don't drive enough in a day to need anything more than a standard 15a outlet

LordKitsuna ,

Unless you're taking road trips literally every other week you could just rent a gas vehicle when it's time for a road trip. Rather than make the decision of the car you're going to drive every single day based on something you only do maybe once a year.

It's why I don't own a pickup truck, I actually do haul cars, help people move and all that shit that people say is why they need a pickup truck but I just go to fucking U-Haul and rent either the Sprinter van or the pickup truck for 30 bucks plus mileage when I need one. And I do actually keep track of my financial records with a double Ledger Finance app I just went and looked and I'm still nowhere near the cost of a used pickup truck from all of that renting

LordKitsuna ,

I wish the entire world would use type G. It's the objectively superior socket for so many reasons. I hate type A so much

LordKitsuna ,

GFCI will save people from direct shock , but won't always stop a fault from say starting a fire. Example a damaged wire arcing the live and neutral (not a dead short) won't trip gfci, there is no ground fault because the power is returning over the neutral as it should. And since it's just a partial arc short it's not going to draw enough to trip the main breaker so it can just sit there and get hot and catch fire.

Technically we now have AFCI to try and detect exactly that, but it's still relatively recent and generally very expensive to implement.

All that said, I prefer the g-type outlet simply because of the giant plug ensures a nice, proper, secure connection, and isn't shaped in a way that lends itself to being particularly damaged. Even if something lands on it, it's profile prevents it from being ripped out of the socket. Whereas the other socket types tend to stick out quite far from their socket and have a tendency towards being yanked out of it. Obviously I'm partially overreacting because I'm dealing with the absolutely fucking garbage type B Outlet I just want an outlet that will finally stay secure

LordKitsuna ,

No, what they mean is that the fuse is rated for exactly only What that particular Appliance is expected to pull. Not what the circuit can handle. In my example the fuse in the main breaker isn't going to trip, because it's just an arc fault it's not a full dead short. It's not going to be pulling enough current to exceed the rating of the circuit. But it would be enough to exceed the rating of the appliance as long as it's not like a space heater or something

LordKitsuna ,

Which jives well with religious groups that have no coherent system either

LordKitsuna ,

Reverse osmosis with a remineralization alkaline post filter. Best water I've ever had, installed one in the kitchen for cooking/drinking

LordKitsuna ,

I went with this https://www.homedepot.com/p/Express-Water-Reverse-Osmosis-Alkaline-Water-Filtration-System-10-Stage-RO-Water-Filter-with-Faucet-and-Tank-100-GPD-ROALK10D/307338928

Just shy of $200 which isn't bad, although I did also buy the booster pump to maintain the most efficient water pressure

LordKitsuna ,

I voted for sanders, continue to try and vote for a at least halfway decent candidate, i moved into an rv that i retrofitted to be fully solar powered. 3.6Kw of panels, 15kwh of battery, haven't had to touch the grid since installing it, 15 stages of water filtration i can just use rainwater if need be for my freshwater (verified with lab tests for water safety) i have my own land and grow as much of my own veggies and herbs as i can. I drive literally one of the least polluting cars in the world (smart fortwo gets an avg of 44MPG is not even a hybrid) and I still try to drive it as little as possible, i use all stainless steel throughout my kitchen (cookware, storage, utensils, plates, bowels, cups) , so everything lasts forever and has no microplastics or pfas.

I genuinely don't know what more i could possibly do to reduce my footprint, I went out of my way to live as efficiently as possible and it's done literally nothing whatsoever for the situation. And people bitch moan complain about even the smallest change to their life. I can't even convince people to at least try induction over gas stoves. It's got so much better temperature control than gas, and since it's literally turning the pan into the heating element it's like 92% efficient whereas gas is horrendously inefficient since a large amount of heat just barfs out into the room instead of getting to your food. And I'm literally offering people to just fucking have one of mine so it's not like it's a cost issue.

So fuck you, we are doomed and you can't convince me otherwise

LordKitsuna ,

As a professional CDL driver... I want more of them. Fucking tired of people going 50+ on 35mph roads, 80+ in a 65. Racing around me and cutting me off when I'm already going 5 over posted. I used to agree but after years of driving for a living? Nah fuck em they deserve the ticket, anything within 5 of posted won't land you a ticket and even if a cop tried it would be dropped without any resistance if you just challenged it. If you can't handle going within 5 of posted then you shouldn't be behind the wheel.

LordKitsuna ,

Once dried it's quite easy to just rip foam out

LordKitsuna , (edited )

This is great to hear, now maybe hire some more developers to make it work so i can switch. I desperately want to ditch plex, and i have jellyfin installed along side it for testing. It still regularly fails at basic content matching, playback of various files, and has significantly worse transcoding performance than plex.

So while I'm desperate to escape them as they charge for basic features like tone mapping I'm also stuck until an alternative is at least as usable as plex. It's the one thing i don't have an open source self host for at this point.

I've got immich for photos, Seafile for storage, my own pastebin, a piped instance (YouTube front end), a whoogle instance and several other self host alternatives. Really hoping jellyfin can take over for plex

LordKitsuna ,

No, people can't afford houses, of just about any kind. Even shit tiny high density apartments are starting to become unaffordable even when you're looking outside of downtown centers

LordKitsuna ,

But why do they need them? Because usually they don't actually, they just think they do. I also live out in the sticks, I'm two hours away from the nearest actual real town. But I'm literally driving a smart Fortwo, with its short wheelbase I don't have to worry about ever getting high centered on anything it dirt drives real good with the lift springs and the quatrac tires, when i need 2x4s or plywood I've got a scion XB with a roof rack i can shove pretty much however many i want up there and strap em down. Decent pulling with a hitch as well. Had To lift kit it up a bit as well but not too bad.

If you just like having a truck that's fine, I'm just tired of people saying they NEEED them because it's almost always false. Now, if you live in swamp land, have no road, and need mud tires (no not AT tires, MT tires) and 4-wheel then sure. But most people don't even in the sticks.

Hell even in snow, dedicated winter tires keep the xb/smart going strong in all but the absolute worst conditions that you probably shouldn't be in even with 4x drive

LordKitsuna , (edited )

Weird, i know several farmers and they usually greatly prefer tractors for that. But to each their own. And like i said if someone just wants a truck or just likes a truck that's fine, enjoy the truck. But if they are gonna be tell me they need the truck I'll challenge that, because usually they don't. They just like/want it. Which again is fine, just be honest about it.

LordKitsuna ,

5th wheel i assume, at which point ye you need a truck. If it's not a 5th tho you don't need a truck to haul it many an suv could pull it. Technically you can get a 5th wheel dolly too but i don't trust those things

LordKitsuna ,

That's a Penske truck so it's likely a personal trip. So instead of fired they're just going to be a debt for the rest of their life paying off that damage

LordKitsuna ,

Just use it for applications that need heat directly instead of electricity. Heating your home, your hot water, preheating your oven. And tbh even at 30% and that is better than the 0% we have when there's nowhere for renewable energy to go and it has to just be shut off. If the sand battery can be made very quickly and easily and cheaply the inefficiency doesn't matter so much at the moment because we just need fucking somewhere to put it

LordKitsuna ,

Same was sad because i missed the previous night that was intense according to friends

LordKitsuna ,

For those of you who can't afford to have a professionally installed there is a brand called Mr DIY that sells complete kits with pre-charged quick connect lines for around $5,000 (can be both more or less depending on how many rooms you want heated/cooled) . They are very very easy to install, the worst you might need professionally is an electrician to set up a new circuit for you to power it if you're not comfortable doing that yourself

LordKitsuna ,

If you're willing to do it yourself you can go with the brand Mr DIY, they have precharged lines with quick connects and you can get the entire kit for around $5,000 which is much easier to stomach. Technically it would be less because it would still be eligible for any tax credits your power company or state may have and I believe there's a federal tax credit for heat pumps now?

LordKitsuna ,

I mean bisexual and lesbian women would still exist so I don't see why the concept of being slutty wouldn't.

I'll admit I don't really understand the concept of wanting to dress a certain way but also not wanting anyone to look at you for it? Like, I give a very little fucks about what people think I have gone to the store in my robe (sweats and basic tshirt under) in the winter before. I know damn well people are looking at me and thinking I'm just some trashy bum for it but I don't really give a fuck I'm doing it for me because it's comfortable it doesn't bother me in the slightest that they judge me for it, if anything they're probably just jealous.

And I feel like the same should extend to women that want to dress in revealing clothing, yeah some people are going to look at you for it. But why does that have to bother you? You're doing it for you not them

LordKitsuna ,

You should have asked to chatgpt to look that over for you

Is it worth the solar panels I'm getting? ( lemmy.world )

I'm sorry for posting this here. There isn't a solar panel instance, nor did I see anything for electricians. I know there's been a lot of gripe with certain solar companies (solgen being in litigation, and others) but I didn't hear much about freedom forever, since they're new to Seattle area where I'm doing this. Reddit seems...

LordKitsuna ,

So long as you understand that you're paying out the ass for a company to do it. It's actually very simple to do yourself, and if you're willing to do it yourself for $20,000 you can get 20 KW of solar panels, 12 KW of inverter output and 32 KWh of battery storage from signature solar.

It's not difficult to do, it's not difficult to do properly and to code and safely. The amount that these people charge for the labor is fucking asinine and wildly out of line with the difficulty of the work done

LordKitsuna ,

Yeah it's WAY WAY WAY easier if you DON'T grid tie. Off grid inverters with battery are the way to go. they are basically just a UPS on steroids they can take the grid as an input but they will never feed back into it. Meaning your power company need not be involved at all thankfully.

Honestly you really don't need to be all that familiar with the DC Systems either. There's so many amazing resources out there that will literally hold your hand through the whole process. What kind of cut-offs you need to have, what type of Breakers and where. Pass that just don't swap positive with negative and you're basically good to go it's a shockingly simple system which is why it's so disgusting how much they charge to install it

LordKitsuna ,

Lots of states are turning hostile towards metered solar, I have no doubt Washington will eventually join them so it might not be long-term a good idea. As for resources https://diysolarforum.com/ has a ton as does https://www.youtube.com/@WillProwse

As for equipment i can't recommend signature solar enough. I've had plenty of problems with the FedEx freight shipping but they've always been good about making sure everything is taken care of if there's any damage without much fuss (always take pictures of even the smallest box damage on delivery)

For example with a goal of about 20k spent This bundle gets you 12Kw of inverter output and 30Kwh of batteries for 11k. Then just grab two Of these solar panel pallets for 28Kw of panels.

Now ofc in summer you will never use that much BUT you should be sizing your array to account for the winter months rather than solar. If you indeed want to go grid tie you could get one of their bundles with the larger 12k single unit as I'm pretty it can backfeed

LordKitsuna , (edited )

Your screenshot shows 20k spent. I'm assuming you mean after federal tax rebate. As for what numbers

For example with a goal of about 20k spent This bundle gets you 12Kw of inverter output and 30Kwh of batteries for 11k. Then just grab two Of these solar panel pallets for 28Kw of panels. Or Alternatively go smaller with just one pallet and save a bit. Then ofc you will get the 30% federal tax credit on top of everything

So far as i can see from your invoice you won't have any battery storage, your inverter is less than 4k output. So for the same price you could get 3x the inverter capacity, actually have battery, meaning even during a complete blackout you would still be able to have power, and get 3x as much solar array. Or you could get a similarly sized system for a fraction of the price. EG4 also has a larger inverter than can do the metering if you want that so could trade the 2x pallets for 1x with backfeed inverter

LordKitsuna ,

You can, they require full wiring diagrams for approval and inspection by a master electrician. One of the setups i did was for PSE in Washington. Federal tax credit counts as well in diy

LordKitsuna ,

There's honestly little to learn, it's a DC system so it's a lot more straightforward than some of the nasty that can happen with AC neutral and grounds where and when to bond etc. Positive and negative, use an appropriate sized dc breaker, have a cutoff switch. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

LordKitsuna ,

Except there is no good option to vote for on climate change. There are less bad then the other options options, but there ain't no good radical change right now options.

LordKitsuna ,

As someone that ended up being the teacher for the majority of my friend group. If you are struggling with the teaching more than likely you're trying to give answers to their questions. Which is actually more unhelpful than helpful.

If they're asking you how to make a certain kind of turn, or how to know how close they are to something. Just giving them an answer isn't really useful because they don't know how to arrive at that answer, instead you need to help them ask the correct questions.

" you didn't quite make it in that parallel park, get out and take a look at where the car is. The back of the car is only just barely in the spot, so clearly you didn't end up deep enough in the spot. What do you think you need to do to change that"

And have them keep practicing until they start to figure it out, it will seem frustrating for them in the moment but it's genuinely more useful for them to try things on their own and attempt to reach the answer. than it is for them to be handed the answer, because then they understand not just the answer is, but the why of the answer. Why did I not make that turn, what does it feel like to not make the turn properly. Which is very important for being able to apply those same principles of vehicle control to other situations.

One of my favorite things to do with people is to set up some cones or a block of wood or whatever and just tell them to try and park as closely as possible to that object without touching it. I have them do that, get out, go look at how close they were to it, and then try again if they were nowhere near it until they can get it to Within less than a foot. Great way to help train sense of vehicle position.

LordKitsuna ,

I hate this recommendation because Matrix is just a terrible user experience. It has basically nothing of value over Discord other than being open source. Which is important but it's not enough to counteract the amount of basic quality of life stuff that is just absolutely trash garbage on Matrix. Stuff that no normal user is going to put up with.

If Discord does end up completely eviscerating itself the replacement will just be some new upstart closed Source program that is shiny just like how Discord took over from Slack it will not be the rise of Open Source because open source developers have no concept of user experience.

I mean we don't even need to start talking about how bad all the client options are and how half the features don't work and all that. You can look no further than the login system. Average users do not like want or accept having multiple options for logging in. There's a reason that irc, teamspeak, mumble despite in many ways being objectively Superior especially in the case of the voice chats ended up relegated to only nerds like us. Because no one else is willing to deal with keeping track of servers to connect with or how to cross join or add users.

Same reason that Lemmy is like 90% technical users that are already invested in something like Linux. The average user got frustrated by how fragmented everything is how many duplicate channels and content you would find between instances and how difficult it was to search instances in the first place. I am here because I can ultimately work around those emoians, but the average person? Is not willing to and they shouldn't have to

LordKitsuna ,

I mean with next cloud and immich it doesn't really matter if they are popular. Those are services that you host for yourself for you to use generally by yourself.

Immich I could see someone using if they're already familiar with Google photos, so long as someone else handled the setup and maintenance of it of course

LordKitsuna ,

Anyone who watches this and gets any enjoyment out of it is a fucking psychopath. This is absolutely horrific, no human no matter how terrible the actions of their government and how complicit they are with it should be made to die in this way.

LordKitsuna ,

That is what fresh food not overloaded with preservatives will do. You should really make fresh produce shopping more of a daily activity as you need it. But not everyone has that kind of time understandably bi-weekly also doable for truly fresh produce along with you plan out your meals for the week

LordKitsuna ,

I just wish it would stabilize. I've been using it but half the time indo a docker-compose pull it breaks
