A number of years ago when cupcake shops were opening everywhere, there was this one called Mancakes that did "manly" cupcakes (think bacon and alcohol). I finally broke down one day and decided to try one. I went with the "Buffalo wings" cupcake which turned out to be what I guess was Frank's Red Hot flavoured cake, topped with icing and some sort of crispy sprinkles (chicken skin?), and stuffed with (to my gagging surprise) blue cheese icing.

I love hot wings, I love blue cheese dip, and cupcakes are just fine.

But a buffalo wing cupcake has to be the nastiest concoction to be called a cupcake that I've ever tasted.

In Greece it is pretty standard to put fries on gyros. That's part of why I love them. But: having the proper crispy fry is essential, as is eating your gyro freshly made.

If you're feeling defeated, don't rush into trying to fix it. Sleep on it. The pain will ebb, even just a little, and you won't try to do something hasty or haphazard in frustration.

Then come back to it a day or two later and try what's been suggested (or that's come to mind while you're in the shower, on the can, etc.)

Good luck. We've all been there and just remember that the only people who don't make mistakes are the ones who never try something new.

Why are people joining .world to begin with?

Because how it works when you first join is very confusing, and why you would choose any particular server is not clear at all.

Also, people want to join something that is bigger and more active because it feels like it would be better (more stable, more content, etc.)

These are legal U.S. tender, minted in the U.S. Not common in the U.S. but still valid.

Pay attention to your other coins though. Ecuador does mint its own coins that match the American ones identically (1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 centavos) and also has some older 1 sucre coins that match these 1 dollar coins. Those would not be legal tender in the U.S., I'm pretty sure.

I was just giving some info... I'm not saying they're fake or anything. I actually found it quite interesting to have the Ecuadorian versions of the coins.

He screwed the pooch on this one. He clearly only left the fan on for two seconds because he didn't want to explain why his boat started moving when he left it on longer, whether that movement was spinning or moving forward. The sail isn't a perfect wall that negates the forces of the fan and so some of the air will blow back or to the sides off of it and make the boat do something.

Mythbusters and The Action Lab both showed how this is possible.

There's lots of other great info in the video, but he used this sail thing as click bait and is showing he cares more about selling his products now than really teaching. Sad.

Wdym? The faster a car moves (or anything, not just a car) the less efficient it's gonna be, because it has to fight against more and more wind resistance.

That isn't entirely true. At lower speeds there may be other inefficiencies that are worse than wind resistance (since wind resistance becomes negligible at low speeds).

It will depend on the vehicle, but for example, small gasoline cars are more efficient at ~70 km/h than at lower speeds. Electric vehicles will likely be more efficient at lower speeds (~40 km/h) than gas vehicles, due to (lack of) gearing but there will still be low speeds where they are less efficient than higher speeds.

If you're making software for actual end-users, you HAVE to give it a goddamn GUI, or else you suck, your software sucks, and nobody is going to use your damn software.

You see this shit SO much more often than you would think. And the infuriating thing is, it seems to be most common among programs that are INCREDIBLY complex and sophisticated....

JohnnyCanuck ,
@JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca avatar

They always fall back on the position of "well, I developed this shit for free, for your ungrateful ass. So you can build your own fucking GUI."

But the thing about that is...no. And fuck you. I shouldn't have to be two-thirds of a fucking developer, in order to use the fucking software.

This took it from being "unpopular opinion" to "I'm just a fucking asshole and my opinion doesn't matter."

Or in other words, fuck you, you ungrateful cunt.

The dev making the ceramic stress testing whatchamawhatsit probably has zero skills in making a GUI. The next thing you'd be complaining about is that there's some bug in the GUI, because you're a complete moron and keep doing something stupid. Something the dev didn't ever think someone would do, because they're not a moron, and don't think like one.

They're making the tool because they have a passion for whatever it is they have a passion for. Not because theyre trying to appease your moronic simple mind.

If you're so passionate about GUIs, learn to make a fucking GUI for a command line tool. You fucking tool.

Whenever anyone brings this up, I imagine a vegan sitting at a table with their new friends, refusing to eat any chicken wings, but also not saying why... And then everyone harassing them with a million questions like, "do you not like hot sauce? We can get barbecue", "are you on a diet?", "are you allergic?", etc, etc. Finally, after half an hour of this, they lose it and just as there's a lull in the music, they scream out, "look, I'm a vegan! I don't fucking eat meat! Fuck off!"

The whole bar goes quiet, staring, then one of the people at the table reaches for a wing, looks at the vegan, and says, "dude, chill, we get it, you don't eat meat, blah blah blah. You don't have to talk about it every 5 minutes! Here's some bread and butter."

The caulk should definitely still be wet when you pull up the tape. The tape should be a quarter-inch/half-centimeter away from the wall.

Did the method you watched include the wet finger trick to push in the caulk and smooth it?

Personally I would skip the painters tape and just do a small bead of caulk plus wet finger.

JohnnyCanuck ,

So did you do the painters tape plus wet finger?

JohnnyCanuck ,
@JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca avatar

Clean and dry!

JohnnyCanuck ,
@JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca avatar

You have to pull the tape up almost immediately. If the caulk starts curing, you'll pull it away with the tape.

And make sure the surfaces are clean and dry before you start.

I didn't realize how much Fox News was involved with this. I guess Fox is back in with the MAGA crowd?

What they're doing is very dangerous.

JohnnyCanuck ,
@JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca avatar

Well, I'm not American and I don't watch Fox News, so I didn't realize that they were the ones pushing this Taylor Swift conspiracy narrative. Also, it feels like it wasn't that long ago that I heard MAGA was going to boycott Fox.

If it says it's going to rain, be aware that "rain" there can mean actual buckets of water being dropped from the sky on your head. Like, you get caught in the rain and you feel like you're standing under a waterfall.

JohnnyCanuck ,
@JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca avatar

but he has the 'R' next to his name, what do you expect boomers to do!?

Saying it's boomers is reductive and actually inaccurate (and thus insulting to half or more of the boomers)

White, protestant, with less education? Now you're talking big-R, baby!
