He's not happy, but that's got little/nothing to do with his money. He's doing the same things and experiencing the same consequences as a lot of people who fall into the extreme-right. He alianted his family, he's in trouble at work and he's blaming everyone and everything but himself. Only difference between him and the qanon conspiracy-brain who got fired from the plant in some small town for saying racist shit on Facebook is that Elon's wealth and public status means his life falling apart is a public spectacle instead of a private one. That, and the fact that his meltdown impacts a lot more people.

Money actually does buy happiness for most people (up to about $75k USD annually, at which point the correlation fades). I suspect that happiness is a direct result of not feeling like you're 1 sick day from homelessness, but I don't think the data is there to support why yet.

Edit: $75k, not 7k

Jimmyeatsausage ,

I was born extremely smart. I always tested way at the top of the curve... far superior to all my peers.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

MFer accidentally got "plum" right and didn't even know it...

Jimmyeatsausage ,

Do you know a moth who's good at conversation?

Jimmyeatsausage ,

Per-swipe ads on phones. Free tier: every 5 swipes, regardless of app, full screen unskippable ads (content saved to devices locally so airplane mode doesn't stop it). Then you pay more to increase the number of swipes you get between ads.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

Some aspire to greatness, and some have it thrust upon them.

Neither of those apply here, but you'll be fine.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

Even that's not technically accurate. That's the kind of thinking that makes people think a snowball means the climate isn't changing. We'll still have some summers that are marginally cooler than some previous summer, but the average over time is gonna keep going up.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

What is this, a war thunder forum? Stop releasing the secrets!

Jimmyeatsausage ,

"If they aren't already terrorists, I'll terrorize them until they are."

Jimmyeatsausage ,

Let's be fair...she did leave the pedo for a guy that would take her boobs out in a public theater while she gave him a handy.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

Dude is gonna look like Palpatine when he can't get bronzer anymore.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

I had a pretty pivotal experience around this realization when I was in my late teens. A buddy of mine and I were driving around town running errands, and we ended up driving past this same woman a couple of times like miles apart. At one point, I rolled down my window and asked if she needed a ride. The look on her face broke part of me. She was terrified of me. I'd never been looked at like that before.

I was so nieve at that point in my life. It never even occurred to me how horrifying 2 guys you don't know rolling up and trying to get you in their car might be. Neither of had any bad intentions...it was hot as hell out, and we figured she'd been walking for miles at that point. But none of that matters...we were like clumsy giants destroying a village we wanted to visit because we never considered the fact that we were just too big.

I still feel bad when I think about it and that was 20 years ago.

After years of being told I was part Cherokee, someone was mad that I wasn't. ( lemmy.world )

He is now denying the validity of dna tests. I don’t want to say the past 35 years of having him treat me worse than he treats his sister had anything to do with his assumptions of my dna, but he was upset to learn that I am more Irish than him. I wonder what he thought of my mother before these results…

Jimmyeatsausage ,

I've heard before that there is a tendency of these tests to over-report European ancestry and under-report or misidentify ethnic minorities. Something to do with the underlying datasets not being inclusive enough because those populations are smaller and don't purchase these DNA tests at the same rate as Western Europeans.

There also seems to be a weird fetishisation of First Nations ancestry in parts of the US. I've also been told I have Cherokee ancestors, but it didn't show in my dna ancestory either.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

It's OK to call anyone not aligned with the Republican Party a Nazi, because it's important that words have no real meaning. Once words have no meaning, the ideas behind them fade as well. This is double plus ungood.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

I mean, if that's ok, it's surely ok for OP to send the offending coworker random dick pics every day at lunch.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

Yeah, but the guy that thinks sharing snuff films at work ok is likely to also be the kind of guy that is vehemently homophobic...and I mean the more scientific definition where exposure causes physical disgust or discomfort as opposed to the more political definition of just not viewing them as equals. I don't think it's a huge leap to assume this is the kind of person that would have the same visceral experience they shared with OP...especially if OP were to imply the massive, throbbing high definition photo was also actually gore.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

I mean, he could tweet about how people should show up anyway. I don't know if it would be effective or not, but knowing how rabid his fans are, it could lead to something. This is just more of his plausible deniablitity shtick. "Oh, a juror I don't like very much lives here. It sure would be a shame if a bunch of folks harassed or threatened them into doing what I want"

Dude lost 4 years ago and still has a fanatical base that swears it didn't happen.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

I hope so. The alternative is they show up armed this time.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

I think some of this is also just that pop science often lags years or decades behind real science. Most people couldn't name another famous psychologist, or an evolutionary scientist beyond Darwin, or a physicist beyond Einstein.

Specifically regarding art and philosophy, even if Freud's idea were wrong, you can still glean something useful (or at least interesting) from using them as a starting premise.

Jimmyeatsausage OP ,

I don't know about weed for that purpose... sometimes makes people more anxious. It'd be better if they just stopped forcing drugs on people period without the oversight of an actual doctor.

Jimmyeatsausage OP ,

I mean, that's a pretty slippery slope of logic you're on. We should have addressed anthropogenic climate change in the 70s, but I'm not gonna poo-poo the progress we've made.

I know it sucks that so many things change on a generational scale instead of a year scale, but I was also pretty damn happy about all that institutional inertia slowing down the hard-right turn we took during Trump’s 1st term.

Jimmyeatsausage OP ,

And move the goalposts.

Jimmyeatsausage OP ,

If it's not already done, it's too late to try or care.

Jimmyeatsausage OP ,

Probably nothing immediately. The biggest advantages of rescheduling are in regard to federal sentencing guidelines and, imo more importantly, federal funding for research. Schedule 1 drugs (which MJ is currently) are defined as having no medical value, so research funding is practically impossible.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

Thank goodness there isn't a publicly accessible, written version of a plan to replace everyone with sycophants right here: www dot project2025 dot org

Jimmyeatsausage ,

It's weird...I didn't see any skimming their post history... must be a mod conspiracy

Jimmyeatsausage ,

Please don't take this as anything other than a legitimate inquiry, as that's how i intend it.

If we're claiming that all of this bad is by design, and the point of the revolution was to create this system, then aren't you saying that the revolution was wrong? Like, the founders intended to replace a monarchical people moving machine that killed some of the people and replaced it with a democratic one that kills some of the people. If they designed it that way, then the revolution was pointless, and if they didn't design it that way, then the argument that the suffering is a feature (instead of a consequence) is demonstrably wrong...what am I missing?

Jimmyeatsausage ,

The only way to kill bad fascism is with good fascism?

Jimmyeatsausage ,

Assuming they weren't all killed by the linch mobs. Mobs are well known for studious research into the claims made against their victims before they get the rope.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

From the foundational textbook "Garden of Earthly Delights" by H. Bosch et al

I tend to agree. Superficially, attacking someone with a poptart sounds funny, but I'm sure irl, it was more like repeatedly punching with the poptart in hard or throwing a bunch of shit around like a pouting toddler. I imagine the worker was a child or elderly too and not the 6'2" guy they make stock the high shelves.

Edit: I was wrong... he did just throw a poptart... but it was while shoplifting, so that explains the arrest.

The lies being provably false hasn't mattered in any other context. Pecker's got something on Trump not related to the case big enough to make Trump shut up.

Edit: subject verb agreement

Jimmyeatsausage ,

I'm not sure if that was caused by a shift in the Onion or a shift in reality, but I feel like it was the latter.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

He's totally gonna collect data for a few months, find out when people finish on each video, and add a cut to him right as you finish.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

Yeah, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if their training consisted of "don't run over anything with the tank...get out and move it...tanks are expensive"

Jimmyeatsausage ,

You just turn off the body cam first. Problem solved!

Jimmyeatsausage ,

Ted Cruz in trouble after Pecker leaks at Trump trial...more at 11.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

Rafael doesn't think that's a real thing, and we should respect that for him.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

Ted Cruz has a totally normal, human-style penis.

Jimmyeatsausage ,

Meh, there wasn't an ad between each paragraph...

Jimmyeatsausage ,

Where's the love for massive datasets in painfully slow excel workbooks?

Jimmyeatsausage ,

Oh? She doesn't want them to just build a wall? Weird.
