I wish there was an English term for this:

From time to time I notice a movie which gets top review scores, but when I watch it, I soon realize it is one of those movies, which I for a lack of a better term call "All wrapping with no present inside."

It is movies which have million dollar budgets, expensive casting, and endless special effects, but a slim, stereotypical manuscript, with zero surprises.

It is what "Dune: part two" is, but what "Interstellar" is not.

Is there a term for it?

Finally! Biden allows Ukraine to fire back at Russian positions across the border, with two notable limitations:

  1. Ukraine can only do so from the area around Kharkiv.

  2. Ukraine can still not use the 300 km ATACMS missiles for these strikes.

Still, this is a significant development, as Ukraine can now shoot down Russian aircraft attacking Kharkiv from inside Russia, using the Patriot systems, and attack ground targets in Belgorod with HIMARS GMLRS guided missiles and more.

    I had the unsettling but enlightening experience yesterday of interacting with someone who believes, all evidence to the contrary notwithstanding, that Trump was an outstanding president and is being maligned now. Emphasis on the word "believes."

    This interaction taught me all over again how impossible it is to reason with Trump's fans who base their adulation not on reason but on raw belief.

    Context: the person with whom I interacted is a man. He's over 90, retired military.
