They should have, but it probably wouldn't make a difference. The superdelegates controlled the nomination.

HaywardT ,

I pretty much agree with you. Voting just gives "them" an idea of what we will put up with.

I wish we could organize like the religious right has. With a minority position they have made amazing changes. I suspect they will destroy democracy before we're able to learn and apply their strategy.

HaywardT ,

Right now I use all/new as I build my subscribe and block list. Eventually I will use subscribed/scaled

HaywardT ,

Another case of Democrats not taking action when they had the opportunity.

HaywardT ,

I think you are correct. I think it is mostly FUD by large generators. Not that the grid doesn't need updating but it's not due to distributed generation yet.

If I were going to do solar today I would do grid isolated with automatic transfer switches. The panels are much cheaper, you get power when the grid is down, and you have more granular control over how you use power.

HaywardT ,

I would be very selective on where I used battery power, if at all. At the moment I think I would use grid power instead. For air conditioning I would get the house as cold as I could while the sun was shining then coast throughout the night. Same for the refrigerator. I would run the table saw on dc directly from the solar panels.

Much of the existing grid's issues could be fixed with reconductorting. Changing the design of renewable interconnect for half-cycle ride-through and power-factor compensation would have been interesting but now there is so much capacity this is practically inconsequential.

As DC interconnects becomes more common the grid becomes more resilient and flexible. Most of these are paid for with private investor money.

Seems like a great opportunity for grid-issolated solar cooling.

Have you ever tried silkscreen printing?

I've wanted to try it for a long time, but never got around to it. I'm curious about any techniques that are more grass roots outside of the commercialized space, like what are the absolute minimum things needed when repeatability, convenience, and time are not important factors, but money and access to rare markets is extremely...

HaywardT ,

Ive done it just for fun. It was some time ago. Bought a screen in a frame, a squeegee, tried a couple mask methods but was most pleased with the photosensitive stuff. It is quite fun and results were impressive for the short time I spent on it.

HaywardT ,

Because electricity in California is deregulated.

HaywardT ,

I don't have much data(just a little involvement with Enron and their manipulation of electricity costs), but there is a lot of money to be made in electricity. I believe the California lobby is pretty strong and pushing the reduction of natural gas. I think they want an all electric state(not including power plants)

HaywardT ,

Yeah. There is a lot of that. I tried to correct some factual errors about container homes and got downvoted and got replies of pigs butts. Eventually the mod deleted all my comments.

HaywardT ,

When I find people that knowingly lie or are unable to have reasoned discourse I check out their history. If I don't feel like they have anything to contribute to me I add them to my blocklist. It has gotten really big and grows everyday, but people on here now seem very nice.

Maybe that downvotes on this conversation is just because my limited knowledge and opinion doesn't add to the conversation. I don't fault them for that.

HaywardT ,

Check out Las Vegas just south of Chicago

HaywardT ,

Isn't Blackstone Blackrock?

HaywardT ,

Interesting. Thanks.

Why doesn't Blackrock appear here?

HaywardT ,

I don't believe this is ad-libbed. I think this was planned. It looks just like some of Ronald Reagan's clever quips.

HaywardT ,

It would be awesome if US police departments donated all their heavy tactical vehicles to your cause.

HaywardT ,

They haven't read it. They have just heard what is in it from their leaders. Just like the banned books or the Bible.

HaywardT ,

Operating rooms are about to become interesting.

Obscure screw added so appliance cannot be disassembled ( lemmy.world )

Basic blender went bad (motor ran but spindle wasn't rotating). I wanted to disassemble to see if it could be repaired. Three of the four screws were Phillips head. I had to cut the casing open in order to discover why I couldn't unscrew the fourth. It was a slotted spanner.

HaywardT ,

Harbor freight has sets of tamper resistant bits. They are also handy for regular Allen and torx heads.

HaywardT ,

Doesn't seem to me to be an outrageous request. I would have put it in a baggie or Walmart bag and returned it to the store, but it looks like it was resolved pretty easily. The threat to run it on the counter seems unnecessarily Karen.

HaywardT ,

I have been talking to a friend who lives in a mobile home near Albuquerque. He is thinking about installing a roof above the home to keep it a little cooler in the summer. To that end I am recommending he use decommissioned panels as the roof and connecting them through a transfer switch to a mini split ac. This has the advantage of using cheap panels from Santan solar (which cannot be grid tied) for free cooling during the hotest hours of the day, while retaining the ability to run the ac at night.

Something on my mind… ((read body section)) ( www.youtube.com )

((No I'm not supporting the genocide of the Palestinian people. What I am trying to do is, start a conversation about how we as a country (the US), sure seem to be getting pushed and pulled into debates about just about everything under the sun. Perhaps I'm not informed as well as others might be. Maybe I've overlooked...

HaywardT ,

The news requires we be upset. That's where the money is.

Good things are happening around me all the time. I try to stay in the present (though sometimes I do dwell on my future too much.)

HaywardT ,

Including a small compact neighborhood uranium mine.

When you get a call from a middle-aged male coworker who had tried to coerce you (younger female) into letting him drop you off at home on a Saturday night: do you call back, text, email, or ignore?

Please read post for full context; any help or input is appreciated! I disclosed sensitive info to a close female coworker (let's say Ann), who is best friends with the male coworker mentioned (Ned). I'm sure she told him, but then they both seemed to want me to still tell him directly. I did because I believe in doing the right...

HaywardT ,

So that big pharma can get a piece of the action.

HaywardT , (edited )

You could use zkp to verify the identity of someone.

What "certain information" do you wish to verify?

HaywardT ,

Sorry. Autocorrected ZKP.

HaywardT ,

You could verify, without transmitting their telephone extension or employee number. You could verify that they are the author of a particular document. I guess you could verify a company is doing a particular action by verifying with a multiple choice question or series of questions.

HaywardT ,

No. It does degrade some fuel system components on fuel systems not made for it.

HaywardT ,

Most people want to work. They just can't afford to.

HaywardT ,

I wrote one many times over during my career that was amazingly effective, not just for myself but others, too. I can't figure out how to write it for the phone because I am a crummy programmer. I would love to have it again. It had one feature that I am unable to find on any other to-do list app.

HaywardT ,

Zero or more prerequisite tasks. End to start dependencies in project management parlance.

HaywardT ,

In my last version I had a single list of tasks, and each had a list of "excuses" which were pointers to other tasks. I had filters for showing "all tasks", "not done", "can be done". The one other feature that was helpful was being able to reorder tasks.

Maybe I will get back to work on it. I thought I had found a perfect set of alpha users in the /r/productivity sub, but I'm not on reddit anymore.

HaywardT ,

Certainly.

HaywardT ,

I don't have tiktok so I don't know. I am pretty happy with my YouTube shorts feed. I feel like I have learned a lot from it, but I can't remember what.

HaywardT OP ,

They are made for laptops, and I am sure they work there. There was a post here about 15days ago asking about unsmarting TVs but it has been deleted. That got me thinking about this solution.

HaywardT OP ,

So if anyone is interested I found the answer to my question. There seems to be two standards for LCD panels and there are these cheap converters for both of them.

HaywardT OP ,

Why go through all of that when you can just connect the board to the panel.

HaywardT OP ,

Or I could just accept my place and watch the ads and go along with all the caveats like a good consumer. I don't see that happening.
