This is the Scandi tea towel / print illustration completely hand inked.
I will work out the final size today (hopefully) and make a film positive.
I don't know what the final colour will be yet. We are going to print the tea towels so there's the possibility of doing different colourways.
I have also designed six cards based on these animals. I just need to finalise the colours. It'll be good to have some more wintery cards for our fairs in the autumn.
THE GUNSLINGER ON THE BEACH (1982)
Acrylic on Illustration Board - 28" x 18"
The winter months of 1980-81 were tough. My wife and I became parents with the arrival of our daughter in November, and I needn't tell anyone who has children what that means in terms of lifestyle changes...like lack of sleep. 1/4
DARKNESS OVER HAYHOLT (2016)
Acrylic on Gessobord - 24" x 36"
When DAW contacted me 35 years ago about illustrating the cover for a high fantasy novel by Tad Williams, an amazing relationship began with THE DRAGONBONE CHAIR. 1/4
I am sometimes hesitant to share my #WorkInProgress because as much as I wish I could be like "I do things step by step and plan it out neatly" in reality my creative process is very chaotic. I like to go back and forth on everything all the time and I really have no idea how things will turn out until I actually work thru it.
"Mummy, Daddy, don't worry, we've reached the witch's hut.
Here's another children's project based on our childhood stories: two children travel on a deer's backdeep in the forest, a fox and a raven are their companions along the way.
Once again, I used mostly watercolours and coloured pencils and took special care to blend the colours.
I've also been thinking a lot about my commission, which I was going to postpone. However, the summer will be the season when I'm most available for commissions. Instead of postponing them, I will proceed in two steps :
a first opening very soon for all watercolour and mixed media art
a second opening for all digital art as soon as I feel ready!
DRAGONFLIGHT (1978)
Acrylic on Masonite - 20" X 30"
For the first book in Anne McCaffrey's now legendary Dragonriders of Pern series, I wanted to create a literal visualization of the title. I selected an aerial point-of-view and tilted the horizon to simulate the dizzying sensation of flight. 1/4
